  1. I am thinking of heading out there in mid-late September, how is the fishing in the Upper French around that time?
  2. Does anyone know if the walleye, pike and maybe musky are still biting at this time? I've read some threads about the water levels being low on the French this year, have they improved by now? We are thinking about staying at Wolseley Lodge, any info would be appreciated!
  3. That is something we have considered, but we don't really like big water, a couple of us are very prone to sea sickness, even with the patch and Gravol and all that. We wouldn't mind a guide for the first day, but for the rest of the week we'd probably want our own boat, just a bunch of old friends shooting the crap and just having a good time and relaxing, you know?
  4. Will do, does he run a lodge there?
  5. Honestly, we're not good enough to target one species, we just try a bunch of different methods depending on what there is in the lake. Of course catching a trophy would be awesome, that's why we were going to do a fly-in, for some big pike and walleye. But we can't be too picky, as long as it's not crazy cold. Oh I guess I should mention I'm in Ottawa.
  6. Hey guys, me and a few friends usually go to a lodge for a week every summer, but a couple of them had problems getting time off this year and we won't all have a week off until mid-October. We had originally wanted to do our first fly-in this year, but now we're thinking it's going to be freezing at that time in Northern Ontario. What are our other options? Maybe somewhere in the U.S.? I've been trying to do some research but it seems like there's not too many areas like Ontario with lodges and boat rentals, etc. We definitely want to fish out of boats. We're willing to make a pretty long drive or maybe fly. Thanks in advance!
  7. Thanks for the replies guys, I'll need to go out with an experienced fisherman some time. We're staying on Lady Evelyn Lake in 2 weeks, that would really suck to get skunked there!
  8. After reading the earlier walleye thread it inspired me to ask this question. Me and my cousin just started fishing 3 years ago, and we've probably been out on the water around 50 times. Is it normal that neither of us has ever caught a walleye because we didn't use the right method or is it just bad luck? We catch a ton of pike and bass and most of the lakes we fish hold walleye and we have seen others catch their limits on the same lakes many times. We usually fish weedlines, try to fish structure when we have a finder on rented boats, usually 4 to 20 feet of water, using every kind of lure imaginable. We're out for sunrise and don't come back until sunset. What are we doing wrong???
  9. Hi, a group of 6 of us want to do a last minute 3 or 5 night stay at a fairly remote lodge not more than 6-7 hours from Ottawa. We want to go for the nights of August 25-27ish. We are after big pike, bass, walleye, whatever we can catch we just want to have a great time! We haven't had much success on Nipissing, we'd like to try something new this year. I tried a few places on Lady Evelyn Lake, I'm waiting to hear back from them but they might be booked solid. Does anyone have other suggestions? Thanks in advance!!!
  10. Just wow, I'm very jealous. I'm interested in buying a similar package this year, do you mind saying how much it cost around? Or maybe in a PM if you want to keep it private? Once again congrats!
  11. I've heard a lot of good things about these lures, I figure it's about time I tried them out! They come in so many different colours and sizes though, what's everyone's preferred size/colour and what type of success have you had with them?
  12. Me and a couple of buddies are looking to go fishing next week, I know pike is open, and I believe trout is too. We're not really picky about species, just want to make sure its in season and have a great time! We're in the Ottawa area, willing to drive anywhere less than 2 hours and also need to rent a boat. We tried phoning a few lodges but nobody seems to be open yet. If it's a lodge we will stay overnight. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  13. Wow, great info here guys! This helped a lot, thanks.
