I hear you Chris I am not happy when anyone walks away from a debt. I own a plumbing company and personally if a deal is struck I will lose money on a job that I have given my word on before I will break my word. Art

I love to hear things like this Brian when a company is so close to the employees that it is a family type atmosphere. I have found this is possible when a company is small enough to stay in touch with each other and they have the family picnics and know the employees family members by name. The reality is when a company goes from this to being a company with shareholders and policies that affect 100's to 1,000's of employees it has to be done with a broad sweeping brush that does not try to make everyone happy but tries to give something to everyone while protecting the shareholders that they answer too. I am not saying it is fair nor will I say it is always right but it is the way business is done. I have stocks as most of us do and if a company keeps losing money whether the reason is it is trying to be nice to the employees or it is failing for any reason we will pull out of the company as an investor. The deals that may have been made in the past had a way for GM to legally close the plant regardless of if it has or has not repaid the debt to ?Canada? Sorry I do not know anything about the loan so I can't speak on it. If they are walking away from a debt then it appears the penalty for doing that is less than telling the shareholders that they lost 4-6 billion dollars. I will watch to see how this unfolds because it appears there is a piece missing. A major company does not close down a division in a foreign country unless it is no longer profitable to keep it there. It could be union demands are excessive, the cost of electricity and materials are to high, or government subsidies are being lessened and eating away at the profits. The biggest and hardest thing for people to do is to distance themselves mentally from the fact that a business has to survive first before it can have any compassion for the employees. While harsh it is business 101 similar to cutting off a gangrene rotting foot to save the life of the person. It is not the first choice nor a pleasant choice that has repercussions down the line but the person lives to fight another day. Art

I am surprised to read how many people think that this is personal. The GM pull out has nothing to do with it being Canada but everything to do with keeping the company alive and profitable. We see this all over the place in many countries even down to the the cities. A Home Depot closes down when a Lowes moves into the area then they both pull out when they are no longer selling to the new construction boom that was going on. The Lodges up North that sell or close when they people no longer want to travel that far for poor fishing conditions. Business are there to make a product that generates a profit not to make sure that the people who are employed have a job. How many times have you heard of a a man starting a business and failing meaning he has sold everything he owns of value and now has a future of debt and the hard times of rebuilding his finances. The employees then have offered to work for free and give back some of the money they earned to save the owner. This only happens in the movies folks most people say tough luck you made a grab for the brass ring and missed. Now let this man create a business that makes him rich and now he is the bad guy because he has been rewarded for taking the chance and making smarts decisions. Art

Bass are heading out to the secondary weed lines. As you look at the weeds when they are dying back the O2 levels start to go down which pushes the minnows out further. Look for areas that have deeper weeds and baitfish still present. Once you find them a rattling crankbait is a good bet as the day warms up meaning getting up at the crack of dawn is no longer needed. While scouting a bonus on the secondary weedline is warmer water even if it is only a degree or two. I look for rock points or feeder creeks entering the lake or large masses of rock that hold the heat. The fish are feeding in smaller areas and less often so slow down the presentation using a rattling pig and jig or blade lures jigged up and down. While you are moving about some of the minnows are now balling up in deeper water and fishing the edges and underside is a good way to find fish that are actively feeding. Try not to break the ball up with noise or casting into the middle of it. If you do come on a busted ball that you feel was not because of you then send a rattle trap thru the middle of it looking for feeding fish. Hope this helps Art

I am still running a 1989 Fiberglass Ranger boat and the only issue I had to address was where the floatation foam in the floor had shrunk and the glass needed to be reinforced and leveled. As others have said a good boat well taken care of can last a lifetime. Art

The information is for diagnostic purposes and are for the mechanic to look over for red flags. The individual numbers are not as important as what they mean in combination with each other. Think of it as an electrocardiogram the scribbles mean nothing as a scribble but by comparing and looking at all of them it tells you if things are meshing correctly. If there was any concern the mechanic would have been happy to explain how it was going to cost you more money. Art

Catch and release fishing makes it harder for released fish to eat
aplumma replied to farsider's topic in General Discussion
Lets keep this as a discussion of what we know on the subject. If it gets personal or political I will lock it up. The O.P. has been a member since 2008 so I will give him the benefit of the doubt on this being a PETA spam. Thank you Art -
We do not allow a person to have more than one account. If you have more than one you must delete any others you have made. If you are found to have more than one account than all accounts associated will be flag as a spammer and banned from the board. This is a big NO NO Art

Lets keep this polite and not inflamative please. Keep in mind that some of the friendly insults and arguments are between people who have know each other for years and fish together. Thanks Art

The fuel treatments work 2 ways first it creates a barrier between air and the fuel in the tank much like oil floats on water. This barrier cut down or stops water absorption into the ethanol in the fuel. It also encapsulates the water in the fuel and allows it to be processed thru the fuel system. If you get a slug of water in the fuel no product will separate the alcohol and the water it will settle to the bottom of the tank and the fuel pick up will send it to the carburetor/ efi. Art

I look at it this way $50.00 takes me roughly 20 minutes to make to give that to someone who is doing everything that they can to make my vacation better is easily done. When I am on Vacation I have usually laid out 6-10 thousand dollars a week another $50.00 isn't going to cause me to lose sleep. If spending $50.00 stresses your budget then tip less but once you are at the point in life where you are taking 6-10 thousand dollar vacations this should be an easy thing to do. Treating the people around you as good as you can will always bring positive rewards and good Karma. I am sure that when the person got home he told his family about this generous and very nice Couple he got to work with and that to me is worth $ 50.00 . Glad you had a good time my friend. Art

Stabil 360 marine is designed to keep a barrier between the fuel surface and the air. It also will help with corrosion of the tank more so than sta bil. I use it always no matter what time of year or whether two and four stoke. A note the two stroke oil can come out of solution if allowed to set for long periods of time. Always give it a shake no matter what brand you use. Art

The caution I would have is if you are wearing both meaning a class 4 high impact usually has 3 or 4 straps that will not move when you are skipping across the water at a high rate of speed as well as an auto inflate vest you could be in trouble. The straps designed to not loosen in a tumble will not allow the auto vest to deploy and leave room for you to breath. A cracked rib or getting the wind knocked out of you is possible as well as jamming the release buckles so make sure if you are using both that it is a manual one. Personally I strap my manual vest to the leaning post when I am using the main motor and that reminds me to put it on before I start fishing. Art

Nice new motor you are good to go now. Art

I do not think that the auto inflates or the manual inflatables are rated for speed impacts. While running the bass boat we wear 4 strap jetski impact rated vests and full face helmets with whiplash collars. When off plane in waters that the shore can be seen and easily reached I do not wear a life vest unless the water is below 70F. When fishing alone or the shore is to far to easily reach I use a high speed rated while under power and a manual inflatable when fishing. I raced Jet Skis for years competitively and a full wetsuit , whiplash collar, spine guard ,helmet and impact rated PFD were needed because of the 50MPH wrecks that occurred. I have been thrown off at full speed and had a helmet cracked when someone hit me as they went by. The difference was we had water rescue on the course to pull you out of the water immediately. Always be safe and take the time to make sure you will come home again. A

I am sorry to have lost a member here who has done nothing but good for so many people. From what I have heard he was a person that I wish I had met in life. This is one of the hardest things about being so far from all of my friends who Live up North I do not get to see them as often as I wish I could. Art

A butler is in charge of driving you around if the resort has golf carts. He will get you towels and chairs around the pool and a cooler of drinks or go to the bar and food services. He makes the reservations for meals and will do small things around like flowers on the bed a fan if needed find you a hammock. You can basically ask for the things you might ask you spouse to do. The tip is usually at the end of the trip and should be based on the service I usually tip $ 50.00 a day for great service. They are poorly paid by the resort and depend on it for income. If they make you happy remembering they are up 2 hours before you and usually 2 hours after. Be thoughtful and generous and you will be fine. Art

Are Black Crappie considered invasive?
aplumma replied to Hack_Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
White crappie and black crappie are two different species that are rarely identified correctly and reality in most cases doesn't matter. The name that covers both are Calico bass and Sac o lait (cajun). Art -
When deep water fishing schools of bait look at the shape of the ball and how compact or loos it is. A ball that is not being harassed by feeding fish is usually tight and round in nature. Finding a ball that is blown out and scattered is usually what you want to see. I usually fish the blowouts by hitting the edges and deep at or slightly below the main body. This is the natural place for feeding fish to be at and it also will keep the bait from scattering to much by boat position and or lures splashing in the middle. The shallows are not a place bass want to hang out in if the water is to warm. If there are no hits shallow then moving out to secondary points with weeds or wood is the next step. Something to consider smallmouth bass are open water and rock related while largemouth are weed and wood relating. Rarely do the two overlap unless bait is the common thread. Art
