  1. Hey Brian, I've been ice fishing twice.....1st time & last time LOL
  2. I spend a lot of time outside Art and really enjoy the frigid temps as long as I'm dressed well. Pretty well every day starts with a 4 mile walk no matter how cold it is.
  3. I've got the same issue with my hands Art and basically need my hands covered as soon as the temps drop below freezing. I don't need the dexterity of gloves so I use the handwarmers inside good mitts and no matter how cold it gets my hands are warm and these warmers last 7-8 hours. I use the same mitts I wore when I was working, good quality leather with a fleece lining. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/grabber-hand-warmers-10-pk-0750057p.html#srp I used to do a LOT of winter biking and wore what they call Lobster Gloves. Just a thumb with only 2 fingers so you could keep to one to hold the grips and the other for either brake or shift levers. Never got cold with those either.
  4. My sump usually only comes on in the spring with the big melt but it's running pretty good today. After the downpour finished last evening we got an inch of snow then more rain then it all froze together and now it's like hard packed sugar and very tough to shovel. I've always said once winter starts it'd be better if it stayed below freezing till springtime and do away with all these crazy melt/freeze cycles.
  5. The Safari's were nice vehicles and very comfortable to drive. I bought a new one in '96 and drove it for 5 years then ventured over to the dark side and bought a 2001 Dodge pick-up. Only kept that one for 3 years and went back to GMC and bought a new '05 Safari. Yup, really nice vans and I never had a single issue with either one.
  6. Yet this thread is allowed to go & on & on while so many other threads are locked for far less than what goes on here. Double standards are always a bad thing.
  7. Nobody ever said Pinto's were a good investment LOL
  8. Not really amazing, I've just never really needed alot of sleep and consider myself lucky. I used to do a huge amount of biking for a long time and would often leave my house @ 2:00 AM and ride 30 - 40 miles just because it was something I really enjoyed. Even now I start most days with a 4 mile hike and usually head out before sunrise.
  9. Unless we have company or are doing something 10:00 is usually my limit.
  10. I've always been a very early riser and usually get up between 2 - 3 AM and there's nothing I enjoyed more that getting up in the middle of the night on a camping trip and building a bonfire and just sitting by myself until the rest of the world woke up. Took this picture in front of my tent about 3:00 AM one beautiful summer morning..
  11. Dogs don't understand danger so if there's any issues with ice I'd for sure leave the pooch in the cottage. Good to hear it all ended well for both of you.
  12. Great story Dan, always pays to be a nice guy.
  13. Happy New Year to everyone and in this house it'll be EXTREMELY happy A week ago my wife went for her regular mammogram and got a call the next day that something showed up on the xray that shouldn't be there and they scheduled more tests for yesterday. It's been a very tough week worrying about what it could be. We went yesterday for the tests and everything is fine and the spot that showed up was nothing more than a mark on the original picture. Very Happy New Year for this family for sure.
  14. Every New Years Eve for the 53 years we've been married...'cept the ones I worked...we've ordered in a huge feast of Chinese food and tonight will be no exception and I'm picking it up at 5:00. I should be about 6 pounds heavier this time tomorrow LOL
  15. I've been buying cars & trucks, mostly GM products & mostly new for the past 53 years and have had everything from Corvairs to Rivieras and & pick-ups and can honestly say the only bad one I ever had was a brand new 2018 F150 Lariat with the 5.0 that had to have a new engine installed after only 10,000 miles and then the new engine also turned out to be bad after the 1st day. Ford wanted to give me another engine but I refused, dumped the truck and bought a new '19 Lariat with the EcoBoost motor. Cost me a few dollars but my dealership gave me a deal I couldn't refuse and now I'm a happy camper again. Figure 1 bad vehicle out of many is doing pretty good.
  16. Sad new Chris, really sorry to hear it. I do indeed remember Brook, she was a great dog.
  17. Just got back from my daily 4 mile hike Brian and was over dressed with just a light polyester T-shirt and jacket. Spent yesterday afternoon washing the truck in the driveway.
  18. There's 3 privately owned repair shops within 20 minutes of me Dan and they've all got great reputations too . Good to know for anyone looking for honest work.
  19. Both you & your reputation as an honest mechanic must be well known in your area Dan, that's something to be really proud of. Good on you !!
  20. He was one of the nicest guys on this board and it's always sad when we lose the good ones too soon.
  21. I own a cell phone but it lives in my truck and it's only there for emergencies or if my wife has to call me for something that can't wait till I get home, and other than that it never get's used, infact I don't even remember the last time I used it. The only 2 people in the universe that have my number are my wife and daughter and everyone else knows if they want to contact me to call me at home. I've never texted and wouldn't even know how to do it. We go out for dinner every Friday night and even sometimes for breakfast thru the week and I'm amazed every time at the number of people talking on their phones in the restaurant rather than the people they're sitting with. We were out recently and the 4 people at the next table almost never spoke to each other and spent the whole time texting to other people. I've lived a long time without a cell phone and don't intent to start anytime soon LOL
  22. I'm thinking Tiny Bennett from the old Toronto Telegram maybe ?
  23. The 2 Esso stations closest to me, one in Lakefield and the other in Bridgenorth are ALWAYS 3-5 cents more than anyone else in the area, yet folks still buy gas from them even though there's Ultra Mar's very close to both stations. Last week both Ultra Mars were $1.00 yet the Esso's were $1.10 Guess some folks don't mind getting ripped off.
  24. In all my years on the job Paul, I never even heard of a net being used although when I 1st went on the job 50 odd years ago we did carry one on an old aerial.
