This pretty lady is becoming a regular in my yard now and I got a couple good shots today.

And some of the stories are even true hahaha Here's a good one about my wife and her 1st and only musky. 25 years ago we were at the lake and early one Sunday morning I headed out fishing before sunrise. My wife had only ever fished a few times and never caught much more than the odd sunfish or perch but this morning she figured she'd go make a few casts from the dock and hopefully surprise me with a pickerel breakfast when I got back in. On only her 2nd cast she got hit hard and pretty near freaked out...her words...when a musky went airborne but she hung on and somehow was able to get it into shore and drag it up on the beach. She had no tools and no idea how to get the hook out and still keep her fingers. She ran up and got a neighbor who was able to unhook it but sadly the fish was already dead. No leader, a small hook, 6# line and zero experience but she did it. My wife was ecstatic with her catch but felt terrible about it dying but we had a friend who was a taxidermist so we took it to him and he mounted it. She still tells the story to anybody that'll listen LOL

If you look at the left side of the very 1st picture at the top of this page from last Saturday you can see the fawn much clearer, at least part of her, and you'll see she's not as dark as she appears in the other pictures. There's quite a few fawns around here and she's about the same colour as the others and she's always with the Piebald Deer.

Good to hear your 1st trip was 99% successful Dan, you put a lot of work into that rig.
-
Thanks Brian, sounds interesting.

I've actually thought about a camera Brian, there's always some interesting critter wandering thru the yard.
-
For anyone that may be interested this deer was here again today and I got a couple better pictures but still not great as she was quite a ways away at the far end of my yard.
-
Saw that on this morning's news, really lousy to hear.
-
Thanks Chris, never heard that term before but good to know some info on them, seem like they're quite rare. She has a young one with her but her markings are normal.
-
Yeah, sadly your right Paul, if it's unique someone will think it should be hanging on his wall.

A week ago there was a deer in my yard that was half white & half brown but she disappeared before I could get my camera. Just an hour ago I looked out and she was here again but she started to head back into the woods but I was able to get this picture from the rear but you an see the two colors very clear. Pretty kool looking critter and certainly nothing I've ever seen before. Hopefully I can get a better shot if she returns. Just ignore the big ole turkey trying to hog the picture LOL

Have a great trip Dan, it'll be good to hear how you & Sally make out up there.

Yes I knew that but it was a good excuse to buy a new truck LOL I also didn't like the single axle trailer that came with the boat so I had a custom 2 axle trailer built in Michigan and it made a huge difference in the towing.
-
I bought a new boat in '09 and the tongue weight was just a bit too much and the engine didn't really have the power to pull that heavy boat for long distances so I decided to get rid of it. I've been driving those yuppie trucks ever since LOL
-
I bought a new one in '96 and drove it for 4 years, then went over to the dark side for a few years and in 2005 I bought another new Safari. Both were great vehicles, both for comfort and reliability and neither ever needed more than basic maintenance. Really happy with them.

Hard to see the station wagon on the edge of the picture but this is my Dad hooking up his 15' cedarstrip to his '53 Ford. Don't know if you can make it out or not but the boat didn't sit ON the trailer, it hung UNDER it.
-
She actually followed me, I saw her a couple hundred feet earlier and snapped this 2nd picture then I walked away and she went thru the trees and came out again and when I took the 1st picture she was only 50' away. Just a big ole friendly girl LOL
-
They're just big pussy cats really and if you talk nice to them they'll even pose for a picture for you.

Can't imagine anybody is suffering much from the Winter Blah's today with this gorgeous weather. I went for a 2 hour hike this morning, came home and had lunch then went back out and spent 2 more hours moving snow around. Still didn't want to come in but I ran outta snow to shovel LOL

Thanks Dave

Just curious as to what you'll use to power your fire pump Dave, will it run off a gas powered generator or do you have hydro at your place ?
-
I saw a show on TV recently and they said Koalas instinctively climb as high in the trees as possible when there's danger so the poor little guys don't stand a chance.

Even the critters of the forest enjoy the finer things in life LOL

A good friend of ours has a brother living near Canberra Australia who took these pictures from his front porch. He said the fire is starting to move away from his house but threatens some near-by towns. Sure would be a scary place to live right now.
