  1. Mom's folks worked as cooks in the bush camps in the area in the early 1900's, then built a hotel beside the rail line up in Chapleau. It burned down around 1918 and they moved to Killaloe where the rest of the family already lived. This is the hotel in 1917. My grandfather is wearing the white shirt, grandma is sitting in the chair holding my uncle Leonard and the little girl is my Aunt Mable. Mom came along in 1922.
  2. Yeah, I know the place your talking about now, about 1/4 mile east of the tavern. It's a beautiful part of Ontario and my Mom is from Killaloe just a few miles east of Wilno.
  3. We drive up there every couple months and always stop in the Wilno Tavern for lunch and hit all the little shops in the area, but I'm not familiar with this place, but I'm thinking it may be the art shop right beside the tavern ??
  4. Nice bunch of fish there boys, well done for sure.
  5. Wonderful trip Mike, especially with your family going along with you.
  6. I've had wood, aluminum & fiberglass and much prefer glass because of the smoother ride in rough water, but it's all a personal choice.
  7. I was probably the worlds worst golfer but Parkview was the course where I broke 100 for the one & only time in my entire pitiful golfing career.
  8. Always enjoy reading your fishing tales about when you and your brother get out together Rob.
  9. If I have room in the truck, that's where the extra weight always goes as long as it's within the weight limits. I always keep my trailer as light as possible and don't even top up the gas tanks until I'm close to my destination.
  10. Good to have you back bud.
  11. Very nice Chris & if you know it's coming from Joey, you know it'll be good.

I agree with all the others, those pics really are outstanding.
  13. Wonderful news Gerritt & congratulations to your entire family.
  14. The docks are a bit rough right now Brian but the new owners of the camp are gonna be rebuilding them all over the winter and they should be great for next season. They've got lots of plans for the place and it should be very nice once it's done.
  15. Good to know there's at least one other member of this board that enjoys the finer things in life
  16. Kashabog was a favorite camping/fishing location for me and my family back in the 50's Shane, but darned if I can remember any of the good fishing holes now...sorry I can't be of any help.
  17. I don't know Papineau, but if you've got the time head over to Wilno which is just east of Barry's Bay and eat at the Wilno Tavern, absolute best Polish food I've ever had. Wife and I often make the 200 mile round trip just for their food.
  18. I recently ordered a power handle from Shimano in Peterboro and it was much cheaper than any retailer and was only $4 shipping all the way from their office in California, compared to $20 shipping from a retailer in Oshawa. Good folks to deal with.
  19. Thanks Phil, much appreciated !!
  20. Takes a special person to entice that smile Roy
  21. Yeah, we spent an afternoon up there Fred but all we saw was a few pike. There were a few patches of cabbage but no muskies. Fella in the next cottage to us got a 52 in Warren Bay his 1st trip out. Said there was a little bit of cabbage off an island point and the big girl was sitting right on it. Hope you and I can get out for our usual Muskrat trip in August.
  22. C'mon Bruce, that was one of my better smiles
  23. Good luck Michael, hopefully the damage isn't too severe.
  24. Thanks folks Diane and I will definitely be missing some good times Joey but we'll be sticking with Memquisit for the 2 weeks in August just because it's so much closer to where I fish all the time, and with gas at around $8 per gallon it'll be good to eliminate 25-30 miles running every day just to and from the fish'n hole.
  25. Nope, not even a sniff John and we spent 6 hours looking, the extreme lack of weeds is just crazy this year and something I've never seen up there before. We're gonna hook up for another day though when I'm at Memquisit in August and hopefully things have improved by then.
