We have had great success using manual downriggers to get the line up and out of the rougher water thus eliminating the mast. We run boards made by one of the guys late father in laws. He was a very talented man.

There are bigger fish than 2 pounds in the large ponds on my course. I have seen 20" Smallies pulled out of there. The owners do let kids on the course in the spring and fall when they are not as busy. I wouldn't. I wouldn't approve of families walk the course with the dog either. It happens on our course and it can be dangerous because some don't have a clue what is going on. I have seen them stand too close to a fairway and wave you on. Move stupid. There is a huge liability issue at play here. Forget about drowning, the hazard is balls hitting some kid in the noggin when the pond magnets kick in and suck the ball towards the water hazard. Considering that course workers are required to wear hardhats I wouldn't want to be the one explaining to the authorities that someone was seriously injured while fishing. Talk about lack of due diligence. I'm told I worry too much, I just don't want to be hauled into court.

I don't think this thread is Teacher bashing as much as Teachers Union bashing. Eeenie meenie minee moe, catch a political party by the toe. If not the Liberals, who then? Maybe most here were too young to remember but it was Bob Rea and his union supporting NDP crew that deemed several large companies operating in Ontario as " Too big to fail", 25 years ago. It was the NDP that allowed those companies to slide on their legal obligations for pension plan contributions to their companies pension plans. Fast forward to the last 15 years and most of those pension plans are woefully underfunded. A few of those companies too large to fail in Ontario, Stelco, GM, Chrysler, Proctor and Gamble to name a few. I know of more than a few members on this website that are waiting with baited breath for the outcome of US Steel Canada's CCAA bankruptcy protection and possible sale. The hourly workers that fought for a century for fair wages and benefits and may have experienced several strikes and lockouts to "earn" their pensions find that their pensions are underfunded by more than 20% in some cases. So I ask if not the Liberals who then shall run the asylum?

Great for the kids too, small little sandy beach and shallow warm water. I think there was a playground set up on the beach for the kids. But like Fish Farmer said about the slot and 2 fish small limit if I was Pickerel hunting it won't be Nippising.

Emil, I can only tell you of my experience at Cosy Cove. We stayed there way back in 98'. We were there in July as well and the fishing for Walleye and Smallmouth was excellent. I never targeted Pike or Musky. You leave downriggers at home when hitting Nippising. Slow trolling with worm harnesses with a 3 way swivel and bottom bouncing for Walleye not a 10 minute boat ride from the docks. There is a large shoal straight out from the camp. We casted crank baits for Smallies with great success. Also jigged while drifting around Iron Island that is straight out from the camp too, I think it was called Iron Island. I would leave downriggers home, I always said if I ever went back to Nipp for Walleye I might drag Dipsy's or Jet Divers for better depth control. If, in my opinion, you downrigger fish someone is going to loose a few balls. It has many shoals that come up fast, just ask my Uncle from western NY that got his old 20 foot wooden beast hung up on a shoal. It took us forever to get that boat off that shoal with out ripping the bottom of the boat up, one lucky Yank he was that day. With excellent GPS that we didn't have then downrigging "might" be an option but I don't think there is a need for it. 40 feet of water is the deepest there if memory serves me right. A long time ago. I hope the fishing as well as the accommodations are as good now as it was back then.

Freshtrax, you have it bad. There isn't any rehab or prescribed meds that will save you now. Where you not warned that Great Lake fishing is incurable? Oh the tragedy of another lost young soul to longline trolling. You might as well get over here to Erie and start pulling harnesses for the average 10 pound Pickerel. There fish in most larger ponds on courses. I was golfing a course in Carlisle years back that was owned by a former NFL 1st pickin the draft, Tony Mandarich ,and came across an older gent hauling in and releasing one Smallie after another. I stopped and asked him if it was possible to fish the ponds after pleasantries were exchanged, he replied, " Yea sure, get your son to buy a Golf course and fish all you want." My course is loaded with stocked Smallmouth. I'm told it isn't legal. The owner fishes when he wants. I've made a few casts and it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

When I pulled in the driveway here on the Erie shoreline I was witness to flurries. It's only April 22nd, (Dad's 88th Bday), we have had snow that stayed for a bit on many Victoria Day weekends over the years. One Victoria Day weekend I camped out of the 20 foot plus long 1970 Mercury Marquis Brougham and woke to find an inch on the beast, suntan lotion in the afternoon on Wasaga Beach. That boat of a car was bigger than some hotel rooms I've been in. Hey catpierre those don't look like weeds to me. MY wife racked the garden out on Sunday and pulled all my Purple Violettes out, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I was told by a pro landscaper BIL to leave leaves in the garden until the 1st of May. Stay out of my boat honey and leave my gardens alone.

I wouldn't buy a leaky boat. It's not the repairing of the rivet that's the problem it's finding which rivet(s) are leaking.

Can we get a follow up question? Bait colour. There are days that one colour of the same body bait or harness will out fish other identical bait profiles by 100%. I had one Reef Runner with a purple back bring every fish in the boat, as soon as the thing was set bam, fish on, even before reaching the strike zone. I mean they were talking it to the first treble. We had 9 Reef Runners on between our 2 boats, that purple was the ticket. The next day anything with a perch pattern, next day it's Fire Tiger and only Fire Tiger. And I was told by an experienced fisherman fish are colour blind, not these ones. So I need 2 questions answered, both as equally important. One goes with the other for the fishing we do here.

Another piece of artwork. The details you reproduced are fantastic. Rip across the lake, that is great, just don't get it wet. If you would like to see some other great restorations of old kickers stop by Proctor Marine in Simcoe. Mr. Hayington has done many and is still at it. I think their website has a section showing them but seeing them in person is best. It's like a museum of old engines.

We used to marinade tubes in ziplock bags with a splash of oil of anise and a good amount of garlic salt. Maybe this should be on the cooking thread. Putting scents on hard plastics is a waste of money I think as they wash off fast.

We installed my kicker last spring and made the steering mechanism that attaches to the 115 as well. When I say we, I paid for the materials and watched my pal make it. Fitting was the tough part but it wasn't rocket science. That included mounting the controls as well, electric start with throttle controls. That part I did. A bit of flat bar, stainless tubing and quick disconnects. Trial and error and now it works like a charm. A tiller shouldn't take much. By the way I have dealt with Marine Max, he knows his stuff and is less per hour than most.

I hear you Cliff. A reason I as well am bad at giving recipes. A smidgen is different than a dollop, a pinch isn't a dash. How does one explain the sound of something that is ready, like pasta. If I went by what they say on the package we would be eating rock hard spagets. My sauce isn't ready until it blup blups, not blub blubs.

We have many visits from family in western NY, they all think it's cool too. I know they have used it for a few movie shoots even after the fire. I really don't see the objection to it. A lot less ugly than the thousands upon thousands of billboards on US highways like I 75 and I 95 for sure.

There are many threads about batteries here. It comes up every spring. What I did learn from researching batteries a few years back is 80% of all batteries are made by Johnson Controls and most of them are made in China. Kirkland is the city Costco headquarters are in, thus the Kirkland name, they are Johnsons. The biggest difference in battery prices are the number of discharges below 20% a battery can have and still hold a charge. Also check the manufacturers date on a new battery, they bring the older stock to the front of the shelves, it's not good for a battery to sit for a long period of time uncharged. I think the battery for a 747 might be $300.00, that's expensive my friend. I don't mess around with my marine batteries, I can't call CAA on the lake for a boost. I carry a booster pack for insurance. CTC will check your battery at no charge.
