  1. They generally show up here by the hundreds in front of our place, (Erie) sometime at the end of April or beginning of May and can stay for 2 to 4 weeks. The noise of their frolicking can wake you on a calm night. I have seen guys fish the creeks here where they dump into the lake when there is still snow banks on the beach. When they do spawn here they aren't interested much in feeding. So if you are looking for carp get out to Haldimand county after ice out. That may be a while as I don't see any open water here from the beach to the horizon. This warmer weather might change that really soon though. PM me if you wish I'll give you directions, actually it's no big secret so when I see them in I will post their locations here, remind me. Really all you have to do is drive along the Lakeshore and look for them splashing around. Beware trespassing on private property.
  2. Lake St. Clair is a Musky factory. It might be a tad more than 3 hours from the GTA, just drive faster. But from what I have read on forums around the west end of Erie and LSC it is a no brainer for numbers of fish, not trophy fish but sheer numbers of Musky. I read about many multiple fish catches in 1 day from locals.
  3. Nipigon has always been on my bucket list too. I never realized there were only a few camps on that massive lake. Makes deciding easy.
  4. Bunk, you animal you. I read the thread when you first posted it and went right to the photos because I really like you photography skills. Well tonight I went back to the thread to copy the pics to my laptop and watched the videos and nearly fell out of this chair laughing. after the hook pops out you nonchalantly roll up your right sleeve a tad and proceed to stick your left arm into the water, then realizing you got your cuff wet roll up the left sleeve an inch and proceed to stick your arm in up to the elbow. I howled. Then I thought you were going for a swim to get that Laker, man oh man. Of course great pics. I can't decide which one I want to paint with acrylics on canvass. If I have permission. I'm going to anyway. Thanks for the chuckle. Laughing is a great medicine. edit: I have to ask where did you find the skeletons? How do you think they got so clean, Fox, Coyote, Bunk shore lunch?
  5. Mom and Dad were snowbirds. One year it was exactly April 1st when they flew back in. I got a Real Estate sign that was on the lawn up the street with sold on it. You can imagine their surprise when we pulled into the driveway and see a SOLD sign on the lawn. To say my father doesn't have a sense of humour is an understatement. He lost it, really flew off the handle accusing my mother who had wanted to move for about 50 years of selling the house behind his back. I still think it was funny, don't mention it to him. A few years ago I called my wife at work to say they caught a Land Shark in Erie Pa. and she got all excited and told everyone at work. Last night I left her a note saying that Parliament Hill was overtaken by protesters and some bull about the PM needing to be flown away by helicopter and she needed to turn on the TV right away and check CNN and CBC. Well she did just that and woke me up at 5 this AM to tell me she couldn't find it on TV or the internet, reverse April Fools joke on me.
  6. I like to maintain a simple life. I went with Xplornet as the provider and just use the system they provided. I have never gotten a spam email in the 3 years I've been using it. My wife has a G mail address, xplornet and another one I can't recall. No spam on her xplornet either. The other 2 yes.
  7. I've never popped up on this thread because the last time I watched the Grammy Awards I had no idea who anyone was or was familiar with the music, that was until I heard some of the performances. The best I've heard, and seen recently on PBS was Motown 25, a celebration of Motown's 25th anniversary, outstanding. Many of the performances I got chills. Even the Jackson 6 I enjoyed, even Mikey and his white glove. Theres good music and then there is Country Western. I enjoy the newer stuff i.e. Jason Aldeen (sic?) but not the Conway Twitty and George Jones era. I strongly recommend WMCE radio online. It is Mercy Hurst University's station from Erie Pa. I can get it on the radio when I'm close to the lakeshore and it is a great station. No set format, every DJ has his or her own style. There is a trend towards 60'3 and 70's in the morning, Motown , R&B and Blues in the afternoons and all Rock in the evenings usually. No news, sports every hour a short local weather report. Once an hour a Beatle tune must be played. Saturday AM until noon is Latino and Sunday AM it is 100% Polka. Something for everyone, except Country Western. Check it out.
  8. I already sent them my money!
  9. Mattyculp, I hear you, nice to be the boss, sometimes. I have to confess I also had a nice HD with surround system in my office after I retired from Ironmaking. So I'm guilty as well. Sometimes the thing was stuck on CNN or Bell radio but just the din of sound helped me get my stuff done easier. Too quiet bothers me. It took a while to get used to the deafening silence after 30 years of sirens, horns, rail cars coupling and the whoosh of relief valves purging air. I don't know the title of the thread but there was a good discussion regarding streaming video and alternates to Satellite and cable here on the site. I learned much reading that. I don't have enough band width with my sat system apparently. If I can find it I will post the link for you.
  10. I had the same autocorrect thing happen here when I went to type the short form for Muskellunge. It came out very badly. It was about the guys bashing M U S K Y's over the head and throwing them over board to die a slow death. It sure sounded terrible when muslims came up instead of M U S K Y's. Oh my, I edited that really fast.
  11. What kind of job do you have where you can watch sports for the first few hours, I gotta get me one of those gigs. Sorry I can't help with the question. I don't watch much sports any longer. you too netminder, I hope your bosses aren't reading this. Man I'm getting old. We weren't allowed to read the newspaper in the Pyrometer rooms on day shift.
  12. Like you said Lew better to be of some use than turned into razor blades. Thinking about all the furnaces and mills that have been torn down at the old plant saddens me. They provided good paying jobs for thousands of families over the years and many have sacrificed much to keep them running. Lives were lost there unfortunately as well. No statues, plaques, anything, just brownfields. It is sad but that's progress I am told.
  13. The best thing about that show and the Canadian guy Cyril (I don't remember his last name, sorry Cyril) is they aren't a n hour long commercial disguised as a. fishing show. No flogging rods and reels, BBQ's, camping equipment, leader material, line, boat accessories, oil, tires or Dodge Ram trucks along with every other imaginable thing to try to sell us every Saturday morning.
  14. I like his show on the whole. Many interesting places he fishes for "Monsters" and of course the legends of people being swallowed whole while fishing from a small boat or washing laundry by the river doesn't hurt the hype. All the "reality" shows have the commercial cliff-hanger just before cutting to commercial. Did he get swallowed up by that giant mutant fish in Chernobyl? Did Cletus get pulled into the Bayou on the latest episode of " Swamp People" just before going to break ? He has caught some big fish and works hard for them, I'll give him that. You very well can't produce a TV show called "River Monsters" without the monsters.
  15. I don't want to highjack this thread but I think my question is related. What is the largest portable gas container I can buy? I have what I think is 20 LT/ 5 gallons. As I will be transporting gas to the slip where I am going to have my boat I would like a few of the largest tanks I can get. I will use a dolly to get them from the truck to the boat. Also I scored a removable hose and nozzle so no one is lifting a hundred pounds or so of fuel up onto the gunnel and then spill it all over trying to fill the boat.
  16. There it is, thanks. Now how does one use it. I'm a bit slow today, got smacked upside the head with a bottle of Smirnoff's finest last evening.
  17. Oops, wrong thread. Need a delete button here, maybe there is one.
  18. I should haven't made that post about those 2 guys that got nabbed years back. I will not divulge the facts as I promised my source anonymity. As for the letter he wrote "explaining" his side of the story what a crock. I was born at night not last night. Sometimes the explanation is more damming than the original offence. Nothing in that letter says " I'm sorry, it will never happen again". Maybe he advised the Detroit Musky guy how to apologize. As far as the comments made on that Walleye forum, man our sensible mods here at OFC would have locked that thing up tighter than a drum long before it went to 2 pages. It is fun reading though.
  19. OK I give, where is it Woodsman? Like finding Waldo.
  20. I got it too. Actually funny and correct, let me check,,,,,,,,yep good to go.
  21. So what are you saying Roy?
  22. OK Rick, stay with me on laymen's terms. What would the standardized extract be?
  23. I've never met the gentlemen but have read here about the great trips many refer to Lakair Lodge. When we ventured up to Maskinonje this past September I remember seeing a sign for Lakeair and mentioned to Ticha, "I heard about that place" . Remember all the good times you have all had there and pray for more to come. Not much else to say is there?
  24. Hey Chris, my wife grew up in Queenston, a few hundred meters down the road from the monument. She made me promise never to go out on that river. I guess she lost a few friends to that river growing up. I will not fish that river and I know I'm missing some great fishing, but my promise is my word. 2 things you don't break for anyone, your Balls and your word.
