  1. Don't quit fishing Dara, quit shopping. That's an oxymoron I guess.
  2. That has to be one of the coolest reels I have seen in a long time. I sort of pick them up when I see them cheap at a garage sale or Antique store and they don't know what they have. I have paid much more than they were asking, it's just the right thing to do I think. More pics Rick please on a solid back ground so I can see the details. Email them if you wish, what ever is easy. I doubt it but is he interested in selling it? I know I wouldn't even if it wasn't my fathers. He only passed on his old sledge hammers and tools to me. He had an old axe that was marked "Tonys X" on it. I still howl when I use it.
  3. Try driving in Rome or London, it's really a type of bumper cars. I admit I got the finger a few times Monday on the 400 because I forgot where I was and found myself in the second lane from the left towing the boat. Sorry pally. Oh by the way if that was you, nice Heritage, I know what Harley it was because we were both stopped next to each other in bumper to bumper traffic 3 minutes latter. Hurry up and stop.
  4. And they say Global Warming is a Myth!
  5. Fish jewelry. My lady is looking for a pair for an up coming wedding. Dual purpose, nice.
  6. Not GTA but there is a reputable repair shop in Port Dover. I don't remember the name of course, Google it.
  7. Wow buddy, you got her her very own vacuum cleaner? A new set of pots and pans for her Xmas present? And I'm supposed to act like it's 1967 because I'm in my 60's.
  8. I would never make a fish bet with any woman, especially a teen. The yellow kicks must be the trick. I would think that Pic would go at least 7lbs depending on her girth. Could be 8 here on Erie. Thank you for sharing great memories with us all. Beauty Dog by the way. Did it get a taste of that fish it was so interested in?
  9. It's the head end of Niagara River where Erie dumps over The Falls and into Ontario eventually. To say the current is strong is an understatement. The last thing I want to do there is bottom bounce a heavy weight unless it is a wire bottom bouncer. That is a sure fire way to loose tackle bouncing bottom with a heavy bolt. I want my presentation just up from the bottom casting upstream and letting it drift downstream eventually getting to the shoreline including a 1 OZ wire bouncer. You will be more successful using a crankbait and working it the way you are. You didn't catch a fish because you only spent an hour fishing. I would have 6 rods or more prepped with all manners of bait and colours switching up as you go including a live minnow on a floating jig head. The fish surfacing were most likely Smallies or Steelhead feeding on Mayflies. There is slack water behind Nickols Marina in Ft. Erie along the wall. I see guys in boats fish that shoreline from the boats as well as guys working bait from shore. An hour just isn't enough time to work an area. L.P.P. location, population, presentation. You have the first 2 for sure, now figure out the last key element. edit: check your regs for Zone 19 on page 91 of the regs. There are Fish Sanctuary restrictions from June 1st to July 15th where you might want to fish, don't.
  10. My brother-in-law that has a fairly large landscape company in Halifax came out for a visit one Fall. Never having been to Ontario he asked what those people were doing cleaning up the leaves? He said the best thing for your lawn in the winter and spring is leave the leaves on the grass. Think about it, if you rake up fallen leaves in the spring there is always fresh chutes of healthy grass under those pesky leafs. I have not raked leaves for 16 years and now my neighbours are following suit. I got him good that trip. We went to Turkey Point for lunch after golf one afternoon then. 75F during an Indian Summer. There is a guy that has a place there and he brings up a few tall mature Palm Tree from Florida every year. Dave went back to Nova Scotia and told everyone that in southern Ontario they have Palm Trees. That isn't a lie really, we do.
  11. Not everybody is out there to rip you off. When you deal with the owner of a small retailer he or she will give you the best customer service in most cases than any corporate retailer, not always but usually. The big box guys however are there to answer to the shareholder and maximize that shareholders profit and at all costs. So in that case you are 110% right in that getting "ripped off" is in their unwritten business Mantra I bet. One reason I can not understand why many will buy sight unseen from the Internet is that I want to be able to see what I'm buying before I fork out big bucks, including top soil. Last year I didn't do what I preach and ordered some triple mix without being here before they dumped it. It was more than 50% clay and other crap. Next time I'll be here when they deliver the stuff.
  12. I have a neighbour here on the lake that cuts some of his firewood up with a Skill Saw. I guess it's quitter then a chainsaw. His wife was saying the noise of the Wind Turbines bothered her, I replied " More than Paul's Skill Saw singing all day long?". Rick, a gas powered leaf blower is just an extension of ones appendage.
  13. I buy an "On Demand" shallow well pump from Canadian Tire at 10.00 AM and put power to it at 11:00 AM and she no work. I am back at the store at 12:30 and they tell me that I have to send it to Mastercraft in Toronto. The 18 year old girl tells me Mastercraft has nothing to do with CTC, it's a separate company. They took it back at the Dunnville Canadian Tire after dealing with the store owner, not the manager making $18.00 an hour. I didn't raise my voice once talking to the store manager then the store owner. Support your local Mom and Pop tackle shops, and pump supply guys. I will pay more there and be satisfied. How much is it worth to deal with a faceless corporation?
  14. Pics from Photobucket didn't show here. But I know what you hooligans look like. I don't know if I could take it looking at the both of you at the same time. Yes Spiel, small world for sure.
  15. Silvers are best day 1 or 2. After that they really get gamey even if frozen from fresh.
  16. Texting while driving is my pet peeve, I don't want to sound sexist but 95% are young women that I see doing it. There are bad drivers everywhere. Retirees in south Florida worse than most. Parking your car in a Wall Mart parking lot there is a quick way to get dinged. I saw them all today. Drove from north of Parry Sound to St. Kitts today then over to Haldimand. It got worse the closer we got to T.O. Ferraris and crotch rockets weaving in and out of traffic and all makes of bikes creating their personal laneways during jam ups from 69 to the QEW, and there were plenty. Why is it traffic comes to a stop when someone is parked on the side of the highway? Nothing to see here kids, move along. I don't have stats but the vehicle related fatalities on the Concessions and Side Rds. seem to be a regular occurrence in Niagara.
  17. That's the sound of money you hear. The best sound there is would be the sound of a Fighter Jet screaming by when they use the lakeshore here as a road map. It doesn't bother me at all hearing all the boys with their toys. It is much quitter in the past 15 years though as gas prices rose to the point no one is skiing or tubing around here anymore. I miss hearing people enjoying life. Even the sound of hundreds of bikes go by on the way to Port Dover on Friday the 13th is good in my books. Enjoy life or stay indoors is all I can say.
  18. No he was cutting the grass and I had to pack for my trip up to Parry Sound this AM. We did talk for a while and went over the boat. He bought the boat for 300 bucks and the trailer is in mint condition with new tires. I will help him with it this fall and winter. He doesn't plan on getting wet this year. Like everything about boating and fishing you do something or buy it when it's in the budget.
  19. Maybe not toast yet but they're ready to pop. I like Tory's letter. We could have taken the traditional Canadian position and said nothing and then just let the Yanks keep crapping on us.
  20. A week ago I'm online on a US based boating forum that has members from Moscow Russia to Sao Paulo Brazil and everywhere in between. Something like 10,000 members on this site. A guy posts a thread looking for help getting started restoring a 1970 16 foot Glastron from bottom up. I'm reading and he tells the forum he lives in the closest town from us, Fisherville On. Maybe 200 pop not including livestock. 1 four way stop. He posts a pic of the boat and I recognize his house. I drive by tonight and there's someone cutting the lawn. I stop to introduce myself and he's my Insurance guy. He's been to my place a few times. I shouldn't have told him where I lived before I stopped by, that would have been a good one. "Hey buddy I'm Old Ironmaker from iboats.com and hear you needed some help." Small World indeed.
  21. Where are you? It's a small world. We have some nice Aluminum checker plate leftover from a job. The brake is kaput though you would need to get it bent. Any metal fab shop will have it and brake it for you. I won't be back online until Tuesday though.
  22. I didn't mean you Cliff. It is scary when you hear about an accident around here, and there are accidents on Hwy. 6 steady and they are usually very bad and you know almost everyone you know uses it, including my wife. I hope the guy is OK.
  23. You guys are comedians, a guy is probably fighting for his life and it's funny?
  24. I listen to him too on 900 CHML he knows his stuff and doesn't charge for a first consultation.
  25. Great advice to get Equifax. I advised he see a Lawyer because it appeared he had a lot of "what if's" on his mind. Often first consults are at no charge these days. I also said earlier that you can't bring a law suit against anyone until you have damages. Being p'd off doesn't count. I am sure Geoff's blood pressure has dropped today compared to yesterday. Are you feeling a bit better today Geoff?
