It sounds like a great trip. I know the feeling when the young bucks started joining us. Now some of them have kids wanting to go along too. I don't like it when a 14 year old out drives me on our golf day though let alone out fish me.

Big Gull Lake Weekend, The Good, Bad and Ugly
Old Ironmaker replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
It will depend on what the prop is, aluminium or stainless as far as repairing, a new prop isn't cheap. Go to BayCity Marine on Hester St. on the mountain between Upper James and Wellington and they should take care of you. -
Best waterproof product for boat cover? NF

Thanks for all the replies. A rep for 303 is sending me a gallon to try and review, no charge. Can't turn that deal down. -
Is my Lowrance elite 5X pooched,,,, NO IT,S NOT, Thanks guys
Old Ironmaker replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
I guess you won't get much road rash on the transducer when it's in the box of the truck. I forgot it wasn't on a REAL boat. -
Doug call me when you get to Cayuga, then I'll fire up the oil, Ticha's taking a well deserved nap, she's all fished out. Sometimes I think I live with a puppy, sleep all day and then get ready for bed, those youngins. Tempura asparagus from a lady that grows it in her yard in Port Dover to go with it, 3 bucks for a huge bunch, come on man, what do you say? Rick, this thread may have set a record for the longest ever and most posts on OFC, 116 pages, is it Spiel? Do you get a prize besides all the great recipes?

My wife and I hammered the Perch this A.M. kept 20 all over 10"s. Nothing better than todays catch for supper. I had Halibut last night in Cambridge done in a potato chip crust, very nice, I am going to do them like that in an hour with a rice pilaf. Come on over, there's plenty.

I have to agree with Joey here. As well being put in a pen can't be too good for the life of the released fish including being tossed in the air to get them into the small pail, they need a bigger pail. I have to wonder how 7 guys can catch, release and reset a line fast enough to catch 70 fish in an hour. Maybe they netted them all. That's pretty good Walleye fishing in a lake that has a problem with sustaining a good fishery, sounds like a good lake to me.

I bet it's transducer related. I have started to tape a sock over my transducers when trailering the boat. I never thought of it before but think how much road debris is scratching the bottom, especially gravel roads. I have seen my Hummingbird as well as my Garmin lose some definition every year. Sure enough I crawled to look at the transducer and they were scratched to heck. I dread running and buying new transducers. I got that tip and a new hat from Charlie Wray when I saw him at Proctor's last month. I don't know if it's any help Brian, hope you sort things out. -
Gobies are the bottom of the food chain. Bigger fish, lets hope so. They were big enough years back but yes the average size has increased. The neighbour caught an honest to goodness 7 pounder last year, it was obscene big. I have hooked a few 5's and they are lunkers. The beguns are almost black in colour.

Trolling Motor Batteries (x2) - assume price no object
Old Ironmaker replied to Steve's topic in General Discussion
If you are in the Hamilton area check out Acme Battery off Parkdale Ave. N. They will give you the best price anywhere and explain to you 80% off all batteries manufactured are by Johnson Controls. I'm running Deca's from Proctor Marine in Simcoe On. (needed them right away otherwise I would have gone to Acme), my cranking battery wouldn't hold a charge the 3rd season and they handed me a new battery. Being a regular customer helps, it's sometimes worth paying a bit more and knowing everyone by name at a Marine dealer when you have an issue. Big box stores don't know or care to know you. -
I have to say I have never brought in a fish with the Barn door open. Nice day you had. Beauty boat too.

I have been watching the Smallmouth sit on their spawning beds for the last 20 years out in front, or is it behind our place? I have never seen such large males before which is good to see. Not as many beds as previous years right here but they are all bigger fish. They should be all done by opening based on their arrival 2 weeks ago. It's fun watching the younger males try and run off the bedding fish and take over, that's what I think they are doing. Those kids today are lazy bums. It's strange that I haven't seen many Carp yet. It should be another stellar Smallie season on Erie. Come on opener.

Mine still works after 7 years out of the Orange safety kit. New batteries every year. No need to spend big bucks. The best water proof light I have is a 3 purpose light. Pen light, it turns neon green on the body and can flash green, great in the dark and waterproof. It has a lanyard on it so you can hang it around your neck. It would come in handy if overboard at night with the bright flashing neon green. And it's a whistle which I just found out looking at it to post the name. LIFE GEAR GLOW STICK

I will only return my underware after 6 years. I have to hide my 5 year old pair from my wife or she will chuck them. The other pair is almost brand new, 4 yrs old.

Who are you using for boat insurance?
Old Ironmaker replied to Fish4Eyes's topic in General Discussion
Mine is covered under my Home policy for an extra 200 bucks or so. -
Best waterproof product for boat cover? NF

You mean boathouse don't you? I can't build a garage here but I can get a permit for a boathouse. I would need one at the Marina too. Thompsons will make it crack. Thanks anyway. -
That's a huge Sunny. I bet you were surprised when you saw what it was.

Some more nice kings with huzzsaba!
Old Ironmaker replied to Freshtrax's topic in General Discussion
You will never forget your first big King. Too bad Huzzaba because you will never want to fish the banks for little Panfish any longer. Andrew good sportsmanship there, always let the guest take the first fish. You are a good guy. -
Gave the mooring cover a good scrub today and as suspected it isn't waterproof anymore. It is either Top Gun or Sunbrella, can't recall. I give it a coat of Scotch Guard every few seasons and it took 100 bucks worth last time. Other than the water proof it's in great shape for 21 years old. I can get a new one made locally for $700.00. It's not in the budget right now. Considering what they want to shrink wrap plus waterproofing every few years that's really the wise thing to do I think. B.O.A.T. Bring out another thousand is an understatement.

Very nice reel Geoff. That's the kind of stuff I look for. Old Bakelite reels, knuckle busters and steel rods. I have a shoe box full of Mitchel's now. Not enough walls to mount them. This site is slower than the Raptors tonight.

If you have fished Nipissing the same tactics apply. Basically a stand up jig with a stinger hook and meat. Bottom feeding fish. Yellow and white jigs seemed to be best. Stinger hook for sure, small treble.

Someone raises them south of the Dunnville Dam on the Grand, man they never shut up. If I was their neighbour I would lose it and have a freezer full of the yappers. Talk about noisy waterfront.

Is Big Cliff in that picture from 1846? Now watch he is going to think I'm serious. Just kidding young fella.

No, no, no, never no freakin way!!!! That's what those 3 wheel human pedal death cabs are for. I spent a year in Mumbai one week. Lost 15 pounds the first 4 days. Dangerous place being a passenger let alone drive there. Ask Mr. Younghusband from "Don't Drive Here".

I actually had a "good" experience dealing with a Big Box store today. So since it's so rare I want to share. My wife bought herself a Ryobi 18V weed whacker last June from Homeless Despot. It doesn't work now. I called the dreaded 1-800 number expecting the worst and I immediately am talking to a nice lady with a southern accent, and not southern East Indian. I'm expecting that she is going to tell me to mail it to Atlanta Ga. or Toronto at the least and asks where I live? She tells me to go to Dave's Small Engine repair in Caledonia 35 minutes from here. I know Dave. Another "small world" thing too sort of. Dave said they will most likely give me a new one rather than have him repair it and he doesn't think he can, but has to try first. Rare but great customer service. Edit: so far so good, hope it stays that way.
