We had an inhouse Fire Dept. that would be the envy of many towns in Canada. Some of the gases produced at the Coke Ovens were used during WW1, Mustard gas being one of them. An uncontrolled release and the right wind conditions could result in the evacuation of parts of the city. We had procedures in place for many scenarios that could possibly be devastating for the community.

His son was petrified of the water and would not go near it let alone on it and refused to hold a gun. It crushed him.

Yea Shloim put it away running like a top and 5 months later nothing works. I'm there this year too. I am electrically challenged. Moisture is a killer when a boat sits for months, I learned that real quick. The first thing I do is check all the fuses, that I can do. Then I get my Electrician in a Can, electronic spray, and give the ignition switch, the fuse box, every wire and connection I can find a good spray. Even WD40 will work (water displacement formula 40).I also always clean every battery connection with a brush or sand paper until they shine. I once towed the boat 90 minutes to the marina and back and they found a dirty connector to the battery. Other than that I can't help. Another time I didn't have the bilge wire back on. You never saw a happier dum, dum. It would take me a few years at Community College to understand what Smokercrafty said to do.

Believe it or not AKRISONER there isn't anyone that sells a can of Seafoam in the entire county. Not only that I need to drive to Hamilton to get Shell ethanol free fuel. Country living at it's best. Cheap eggs and Billion dollar views of Lake Erie though.

Looked at it for a bit today. I am going to change the fuel filter and invest the 9 bucks and change the brand new bulb. Over 100 years of combustion engine technology and we have to squeeze a bulb to start an engine!!?? I'm no mechanic but I think that's ludicrous. But I guess it's the most efficient way to prime a 2 stroke engine, and cheapest. I should service the carbs regardless. BOAT= Bring out another thou. No picture it never happened it seems to be. I did sign up with Photo Bucket at least, it's a start.

I had the pleasure to speak to your son Bruce when we got together in January in Hamilton. He is just chomping at the bit to get a chance to succeed and provide better for his family. Not everyone is able to, cares to or it just was not in the cards to get to University. Like I have said before when you and I were his age you took a bus down to Burlington Street, got off at the wrong stop and put in an application to work the next 30 or more years and get a pension. It has to be tough today, real tough. You have a good one there Bruce. I wish I was still in the loop. All my guys have retired now too.

The boats been ready for 2 weeks and finally hit the Grand today for a boat test and try our luck on some Big Cats. A 2 day 8 fish total catch and release Derby was held at Fishmasters Marina Dunnville on the weekend. 111 pounds took the moula, I mean trophy. Not bad at all. So off we went on this gorgeous day. Splashed the boat and she won't start. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, no, no, no and no. After what felt like forever and playing with everything it went vroom. Get on the river warmed her up running 2500 RPM for a bit and hit the pedal to the metal. At 4000 RPM she stalled. Started OK but would stall out everytime it got past 3500 RPM. Man that sucks. If it was the lake I would have trailered it but the river is a bit different. After waiting since November no way we were going in. no way. So 7 MPH it was for the day. Hit the usual holes but not much luck until the wind switched from NE to SW around noon. Just as predicted by Windfinder.com. It is an accurate wind and weather forecast. They are usually bang on and were today. At 4PM my tummy was calling and decided to make the 1/2 hour run a mile up river. As for the fish, no Big Cats on this fine day. We marked small fish tight to bottom at all the usual hunting spots but no big arcs all day. We had some fun catching a dozen or so Yellow Bullhead. They sure are pretty. A bad day fishing is better than doing anything with the lights on. That is actually an oxymoron, "a bad day fishing" really doesn't exist unless someone pokes an eye out. As for the "Bassassin" it's a fuel problem, probably the 9 dollar fuel bulb I just changed. I told my wife I saw a brand spanking new 115 Evinrude E Tec in the marina showroom this week, great price too I think. 10 grand. She gave me 10 bucks and told me to keep the change. I haven't priced new engines in years. 10 grand sounds fair to me, I really don't know. I think it's a 2015. Sorry, no fish porn.

If anyone has had to wear a Scott Air Pac you would know how heavy and cumbersome a 30 minute pac is. Now think about wearing it and all your protective equipment in 50C plus heat. I have been trying to watch NBA ball lately and can't get into it. I Thought I would jump on the bandwagon but just can't get past a first quarter. I've lost my passion for it, I don't know why really, we were fanatics for Basketball. You took your ball everywhere with you, like skate boards today. I think it is great a new generation of fans are following The Raptors. I have been getting nostalgic lately. When I was in HS playing we were fanatics. We didn't have cable yet and only got 1 or 2 games on a Sunday. We would actually all crawl in the VW and 5 of us would shuffle off to North Tonawanda and invade my Noni's living room to watch a Braves game after the expansion. The poor woman. 14 teams then. Teams like Cincinnati Royals, San Fran Warriors, San Diego Rockets. We knew most all the starters on every team, heck there were only 14 until 1970 I think. Wilt Chamberlan, Lew Alcinder, Pistol Pete Maravich, Bob Lanier. Expansion teams were Cleveland, Portland and Buffalo in 70 or 71 to make it 17 teams. If you owned a pair of Bob Cousey Converse it was like having the newest Air Jordans. There was a kid then in a Hamilton High School that could actually,,,,ready,,,, dunk a ball. He made the Spectator because of it. It was illegal then to dunk a ball in HS, University too if I remember, as if anyone could. I am going to try to watch the next game.

Man what a fire. This morning they were reporting homeowners were being able to return except 500 residents. They were hoping for a cold front bringing NW winds and that would have changed the path of the devastation. That has all changed now I see. When I was watching CBC weather I thought they made a mistake and had the temps in Fahrenheit. From 25 to 31C across the province. That is just strange. Al Gore may be onto something. Prayers to all those folks up there. Wild fires are a fact of life up your way for years Blizz. I watched one those Yukon shows and Tanana was nearly burnt to the ground last year. Now there are people where there weren't any before in harms way.

Those look Beefee Mike. I hear they are a tasty sweet fish. Like Perch? I never have fished for them but wanted to. I caught exactly 1 in my entire life fishing a small quarry in Nanticoke. It was an accident. A pal knew a hot spot at a Marina along Erie. Of course the day we go loaded for Bear there's a new gate across the water, NO FISHING !!!! Maybe someday. I met a couple fishing in up state NY, Muskellunge Lake. They go for Crappie for 4 days every year and hammer enough to give all their kids and grand kids many feeds. Both in their late 70's. They fill buckets everyday and clean fish for 2 hours a day. They pretty well fill at least 1/2 of the camps freezer before they are done. It's the only weekend they fish for the year. They have been going to this lake for 50 plus years, never missed a Memorial Day there. They had their daughter change her weeding date because it was Memorial Day weekend. I hope they are well.

Mr. G. That sounds like my autobiography. I needed to work a shift change to be a pall bearer in my favorite uncles funeral. Same for my brothers wedding. No fun working from 07:00 until 23:00 the day after that party. Christmas? New Years? Not even Tim Hortons was open. Too bad, so sad, all ancient history now, it was just what we did. There was a different attitude we took through adulthood than our parents that went through the depression and WW2 did. I just can not imagine what they went through then and have empathy for their entire generation. If some think there is a generation gap now they didn't live through the 60's and early 70's. I can't imagine what was going through my fathers head when we had hair past our shoulders and blasting the 8 tracks without a care in the world living and counting down for the day we could get a beginners. He was hiding from the Nazi's in the mountains as a 14 year old. I just can't imagine that, ever. I blamed him when I was younger, now I am ashamed of myself for that. By the way we just celebrated his 89th Birthday on April 22nd. I have to call him right now.

There is no doubt that most working class baby boomers kids to be the first to get a post secondary education, and graduate. Every one of my 7 nieces and nephews all have a degree of some sort but more importantly are all doing very well and not just financially. I am having trouble naming one of my second cousins that don't have a degree. There are a few Medical Doctors and a Lawyer now in the family. I think we knew the importance of a post secondary education for our kids whereas our Great Generation parents didn't feel the same. Going off to College or University was not as accessible to working class families in the 70's and 80's. I was told I wasn't good enough to go to University and they wouldn't waste their money, many times by my own father. If I didn't get a scholarship I would have never seen the inside of a College. Exactly the opposite of what we told all of our children.
