  1. My mid west {southern Illinois} far right wing GOP member Conservative, carries Ronald Reagan's photo in his wallet, Bible toting, gun toting, NRA representative fantastic Uncle that I love dearly once asked me to look at what was in his glove compartment. I may have told this story before. I asked "Zio, what is this?" as I looked at this beautiful Glock with a Laser sight. "Well Napute, that's my Can gun. You know for Mexican's, Jamaican's, Porto Rican's." And he is proud to spew what I believe to be evil. Even tough I love him dearly talking to him is like talking to an Alien from a different planet as compared to talking to Canadians. This is a person whom someone is going to have to pry his guns from his cold dead hands. This issue of who, what, when, where and why someone is going to dictate to a high percentage of the American public what weapons they can or can not own will not be settled in the next 100 years and certainly not on a internet fishing forum even though it is interesting to say the least. Please keep in mind all of the victims that have lost their lives and the countless people this tragedy has effected for the rest of their lives. Cheap jokes and nit picking does not shed a good light on ones character here and am very surprised at some members out of character comments, not good guys.
  2. When we were young and fit we would start doing more aerobic work in the winter to prepare to bushwack fish for Trout in the back woods of Orangeville and Varney area, I called it Viet Nam. The same when we portaged beaver dams with 14' tinnies, 9.9's gas and tackle up in the Long Lac area. I stopped doing that because it just wasn't physically possible. Fitness is important even for a "non physical" activity as fishing.
  3. You mean Trump, not Obama. If you refer to Obama it just isn't true Rick. It was Trump that went right into a diatribe saying basically "I was right, told you so". No reference whatsoever to any condolences to the victims.
  4. The second amendment was put into in the US Constitution to ensure that citizens would have arms if a corrupt Government was in power and with arms they, the public, would be able to depose a corrupt Government. That was a few hundred years ago. So in the spirit of the law if the Government has weapons so to should I. Does that mean I should be able to own a working Abrams Tank with all ordinance or a Stealth Fighter or two? In my opinion there is no reason whatsoever for anyone to own an assault rifle. Why, because the Constitution says so? When it was written citizens had the same basic weapon technology available to them as did the Military. A question because I don't know the answer. Could citizens own an arsenal of Cannons when the 2nd Amendment was written?
  5. 100% true because I read it on the internet.
  6. I did develop tendinitis in both elbows from trolling in fast water on the Ottawa. A tension band helps when it flares up. The Dr. definitely related it to fishing. He wouldn't give me a script for a rod holder or downrigger like I asked. It flares up when swinging a hammer and too much golfing. It never goes away vompletely. Try Voltaren it does help.
  7. Dave your fishing machine is my favourite I have seen on this site. It must fly with that 115 on it. I don't however see an ice breaker attachment on the bow so you can get it in the water.
  8. Rick you realize how blessed you are to be able to spend priceless times with your Dad. Karsten looks just like Mom thank goodness.
  9. Pimped out to the max. That is the kind of boat I was in the market for before I got 2 footitis. And it fits in the garage!!!! Bonus. I do appreciate your honesty. Every Honda owner tells me it starts on the 1st pull.
  10. In one of Michael Moore's documentaries, Columbine, I believe it was said that per capita Canadians own more guns legally than US citizens. Why is it the only time I feel the need to protect myself with a gun is when I am in the US? The only continent I have never been on is Antarctica and have never felt I needed protection any where in the World but the USA. I have been going to and have lived in the States since I was a week old and have dual citizenship. I have known people down there that have been killed by guns. At the time they were killed they all had weapons on them or in their vehicles.
  11. I hear you. Lake St. Clair is on my to visit lakes this year. They catch them there with regularity. Around 3 hours from here, no excuses this Fall.
  12. You sure worked for it and deserved to land her. If it was a Pike I would say 20 is bang on. Did you think of pulling the anchor? I might not because it was at night. Regardless you landed it and on light gear, priceless. Good on you Dutch. I would be having a chat with that Marina for sure. I would have been more than hot under the collar. What if you didn't find the screw?
  13. It may take a few lifetimes to really know that area, more probably. Congratulations on the move, enjoy life we only have one. That's one of many monsters that lurk them there waters. I want to get back up that way before I hit my best before date. According to the Google thing it's only 10 hrs. Google must not ever drive during daylight to get past Barrie.
  14. For many like me Pete that's a fish of a lifetime. I am so happy you Musky guys are able to get out there finally. Fanatic isn't the word to describe some of you Essox folk.
  15. I just heard on CNN that the first person he met entering the club was the security guard, an off duty Orlando Police Officer. 100% he was armed though that wasn't reported, just my guess. He may be the first gunned down. I would think that the club may have had a zero gun policy for entrance, most clubs do. So so much for someone else stopping the gun man with their own weapon inside the club. I would bet at least 70% of the folks I met in Fla that live there had handguns, some in Fanny Packs or in their vehicles, many in their tackle boxes, many told me they have a gun in the house, young and old. I was shocked to see 2 elderly gentlemen show each other their guns in a Walmart parking lot. My father said call the Police, you aren't home Dad, this is Florida. I have heard shots many times at night from HWY 41 from the condo, many times. A few times fishing when Bubba thought it was a good idea to pepper the street sign when we were putting out Rods in the car during the day. It is a good idea to carry a Fanny Pack around your waist in Florida. I did and many people wanted to know what I was "packing". It is a popular method to carry and conceal. They make them specifically for certain hand guns. Then again some nut may think you are armed and you may be the first one shot. I don't buy the "everyone should carry to protect the public". Has it ever happened? Maybe but I never heard it happening down south where Joe Public takes down a crazed gun man. Off duty Cop, yes but never but a Law Enforcement guy.
  16. First my deepest condolences to the families and friends to all that lost their lives and the injured. Not only those that were physically harmed but to those that suffered traumatically early this morning. I won't enter the gun fray. If I lived in the US damned right I would carry a weapon. The longer I stayed down there the more I wished I got my Fla drivers license. With a drivers permit and a few days I can have any legal gun or guns you want and I would. You had better have milk and bread for the morning because when it got dark not many I knew would venture out east of Tamiami Trail in our town. The older I got the more I thought that way. I don't know why the press has to report this tragedy was at a "Gay" night club? As if it makes a difference gay or straight. I do believe being a Gay club may have influenced this mad man as to where his target was maybe that's why.
  17. Thanks for resurrecting this thread. How did you find it? It's nice to see some names that were regulars here but have disappeared. I don't know of Dollarama still sells that crappola tackle. It's just as effective as my 17 buck Live Target crappolla. I have gotten some great deals at the Sally Ann in Dunnville on tackle. Nothing lately. Maybe a tourney for tackle that are antique now. Daredevils, Original 5 of Diamonds. Rappala's that say $2.99 from Towers, I would never want to lose that baby as I took it out of Len Malloni's tackle box years ago and it was old then. Sadly he passed last year. I miss him big time.
  18. I've been meaning to call you. I don't want to bother you if you are on night shift. Ticha is off for 2 weeks so I see chores in my immediate future. I told her she has an open seat in HER boat. I pulled up to the border crossing at Ft. Erie once and showed the young lady all the paper work for the truck and boat. She asked who the owner of the truck and boat was and how I was related to her. I told her my wife. She said you are lucky to let you use her stuff. I told her actually I work for her and if I do a good job she lets me sleep with her. Weather permitting she is going to join me in the "Bassassin" for the opening here. Watch me get out fished again. Come on down with the crew. I can rent the 2 places next to us to house you all. You do know my phone receives incoming calls too!!!
  19. The back of Steve's legs look like he fell off a bike wearing a bathing suit. I love Dad, "You alright Steve?". I'm reconsidering doing that, nope not me. I get paid to get exited not pay to get excited.
  20. I pulled into the driveway this afternoon and hear a hoopin and a holerin from the lake a few hundred yards out, Holy Hell this and that. One of those evenings where you can hear across the lake a 1/2 mile. Dead calm. There is a Seadoo thing towing what looks like a tube. What's the big deal? The Seadoo takes off and the guy behind him is 10 to 15 feet above the water for 25 to 50 feet at a time. It's or as close to flying as you can get, he's flying. I mean he's really flying. I remember seeing a You Tube of these things. I think they are banned here. He was flying!!!! I want to do it before I die of "fishing is exciting". Those guys sure won't forget today, legal or not
  21. I read your post before any responses. No way I had tech knowledge to answer so I was waiting for responses. I was close, not bad for me. I would think a GPS on sale for the vehicle is the cheaper way to go rather than using the tablet. I have read on another forum where guys want to use tablets vs.Marine GPS. I have read here maybe or other forums where guys try to use tablets loaded with stuff to use as GPS on boats. The pounding of waves and being able to see the screens in sunlight makes them useless, plus they aren't water proof. I know that wasn't what you wanted it for though. I'll stick with Greata Penelope Snuffendoodle, GPS.
  22. I recommend Dundas Marine or Bay City both in Hamilton. Tuning up a small motor isn't rocket science. With some mechanical ability and You Tube anyone can do it.
  23. I might need my phone for an emergency at high speeds. Like to call 911 when I see someone texting or talking while driving. Rick you will need the phone to talk to the Paramedics when you are driving to the Hospital doing 140KPH when you two have another Baby!!!! The only times when I came close to an accident while driving was when it was legal to talk on the phone. I made it my own rule over 10 years ago not to use the stupid thing when driving and my business partner and associates would get incensed when I would let it go to voice mail. I won't use the hands free (Blue teeth?)now as I need all the concentration I cam muster to drive these days. No Rick it's not old age it's all the ignorant and unskilled drivers they allow to drive today. Can people just use common sense today? I still have friends that refuse to wear their seat belts in the truck or PFD in the boat. I even have a spare inflatable for them. Well they used to refuse, now they can drive themselves or buy their own boat and do what they wish. How about if ignoramuses may be shot on sight?
  24. Wowza is all I can say, wowza.
  25. Those were them Dave. Long thin smelts. Were the dead fish Alewife? I stand corrected then and have learned something new today. My cousins that lived on the Beach Strip in the early to mid 60's always talked about the dead "Smelt". Why such a huge die off?
