  1. Thanks for the report. I usually fish the Dry Pine Bay area around the 2nd week in July and do ok on crawler harnesses - I only have spotty success with lures like rapalas, Williams, etc. I'll be heading to Pt. Loring area for the annual spring weekend next weekend - hopefully the fish will be biting. We fish back lakes with canoes. WR
  2. Junior hockey is the greatest entertainment value for your buck. We go to a lot of Jr A and Jr B games. It's still affordable and you can get tickets unlike the big boys in the "show". It was an entertaining series for sure. I was full flipper mode last night between the OHL game and the Leaf game. WR
  3. The Leafs didn't have the "fire" or passion the last two minutes. They should have wanted to get the puck, block the puck and do whatever it takes,..., they didn't and they lost. Tough loss to take. WR
  4. It will be rockin' at the Bud tonight. Good luck to both teams. (I only wished that the Leaf game would have been on Tues. nite) WR
  5. I've followed the Knights forever and have been to most of the Knight's games this year - the Knights do not have "goons" that I am aware of. Maybe they're still at the Ice House (ie. the former rink). I can't see that if and that's a big if, Barrie goes up 2-0 that the knights are going to play dirty. If you saw the first game, you would have seen the Knights dominating periods 1 and most of 3 - Barrie had period 2. The Barrie goalie won the game for the Colts. Let's see what transpires tonight..... As far as a successful franchise, the rink sells out at 9,060 each night. Since the Hunters have owned the Knights they have been exceptionally successful on the ice as well. I believe Dale Hunter got to the 500 win plateau the quickest of any junior coach. I'm sure the franchise is worth more than the few million that they paid for it around 2001 or so. WR
  6. I was at the Bud last night. Niederberger made at least 4 great saves that would have been goals most nights. He was the difference last night. Can't wait to see tomorrow's game WR
  7. I'll be golfing near there in 3 weeks - hopefully there'll be a chance to pick up some more stuff there (to add to my collection in the garage...)
  8. Nice fish Rich! There are some real bigun's in that water.
  9. It will be a good series for sure. But I'll have to say, Go Knights Go!
  10. If you're referring to my post as spam, it was not intended as such. It comes from my family experience of going to the same spot for the last 18 years for a week in July with my family. I have no affiliation with the owners of the lodge, the restaurant referred to, or Science North period.
  11. Bulls or Colts,..., see you guys on Friday night down here!
  12. If you want a camp that runs a bit of a children's program (such as scavenger hunts, kids fish derby, bingo, etc), I would try Dry Pine Camp on the French River in Alban. They don't have a beach but have an inground pool. It's also fairly close to Sudbury where you can visit Science North. Some local attractions are the French River visitor centre and the French River Trading Post where you can have lunch, or buy a t-shirt, or take a picture of your kids with the Hungry Bear and/or Blueberry Hound (that was an annual thing for us with the kids who are now in their 20's)
  13. I have been taking the fam to Dry Pine Resort on the French River the last 15 years or so. They have children's activities such as a scavenger hunt, kids fish derby, bingo, etc. to keep the youngun's amused. They have an inground pool and a lodge with a ping pong table and pool table. They are 5 min away from the French River trading post which is a good distraction for a hour or so. You are also near the French River Visitor Centre which has an awesome display of the history on the French. And if you want you are close to Sudbury where you can go to Science North or catch a movie or go shopping. They have 16' lunds with 15hp yamahas. And if you want to go fishing, the catching ain't too bad. WR
  14. I used to go to the French, Wolseley Bay area, at 3 different lodges, back in the early 1990's. I did do well with bass and walleye and small pike. I now go to Dry Pine Camp on the French near Alban. They have a pool and run a few children's programs such as fish derby off docks and scavaenger hunts. You are also close to Sudbury and can hit it for a movie or dinner or shopping or Science North if the outdoor stuff gets too boring. Fishing on this part of the French has picked up over the last decade with the walleye and bass fishing.
  15. I'm glad that I can still remember the Leaf's last cup - the last year of the original 6 league. hmmm,..., let's go back to 6 teams. who now is going to lead the Leafs to the promised land - Burkie was a dud.
  16. I like the finishes. Dang, more lures to add to the collection. WR
  17. Thanks for the replies. I like the look of ash when it's new (the canoe was like a piece of art); but after several years like mine, it looks pretty dingy. I have used tung oil and teak oil on the gunnels each year and I store it in the garage (with a pulley season up to the ceiling) WR
  18. Has anyone replaced ash gunnels on a canoe - one of my seats broke through the inner stringer (looks like dry rot) It's a 20 year old kevlar; the original manufacturer can replace the ash (which is a pain in the ash to maintain) with aluminum which would make it maintenance free except for any deep scratches to the gel coat. Cost $350. I'm thinking that fix will last for the rest of my canoeing days... I was going to do a cheapo fix by just bracing the weak section but if it's dry rot it will just move along that inner stringer. WR
  19. very nice. and a very nice spot - I was there a few weeks back and thought that I would have the lake to myself. Wrong - a group of high school kids from Michigan were there canoeing and kayaking. Still had a good time with the yak. WR
  20. I had a pair of Cocoons that I could slip over my glasses - unfortunately, they slipped off the zodiac when I was on a local catfish stream. They were pretty good. I've bought a new pair of polarized sunglasses and I have another pair of sunglasses (brown tint for cloudy days) that I can slip over my glasses. It's all ok so far. WR
  21. I fish the same areas as Marty for the French in summer - 12 to 14 ft adjacent to weedbeds. I use a worm harness (go-getter with chartreuse blade). I did ok this year in the Alban area. They were hitting short on me this year. I should have put a stinger hook on the worm tail. Early am to about 11am is usually the time that they bite ; then go in and have lunch and a snooze and wait for the evening bite WR
  22. Congrats Dave! The biggest challenge is getting off your butt and getting outside, doing something. I did a fitness class last night (my first). It hurts like heck but if I keep it going, the aches will go away (hopefully). I even took out my canoe yesterday with my daughter to a nearby conservation area. How was the fishing Ryan? Nice video -keep up the good work guys! WR
  23. Thanks for the heads up. I picked up 2 XL shirts this evening. They're gonna make me look good in 6 weeks when I'm on my annual canoe/fishing trip in the Pt Loring area.
