That is the biggest of the Buddy heaters and that's a great price on them. I use one in my 4 man portable on the very coldest and windiest days and it does a great job. It also has a built in quick connect so you can run a 5lb or 20 lb cylinder. It is a little bulky though so I normally use the smaller Portable buddy unless it's really cold. I think this heater would be too large for a smaller hut especially if you're trying to travel light.

I know this will NEVER happen but rather than the government mandating snows (which seems inevitable in this granny state), why can't the insurance companies offer a rebate for those of us who need or choose to run them? If the accident rates are reduced they should be able to give some back right? I'm not going to hold my breath.....

EXACTLY!! Amen to that brother!!!

This post should have been tagged NF, nf, or Non Fishing as to not upset some of our more sensitive members.....the thought of sharp knives can really upset some people and make them think of red gook or slimy stuff....

The dealer would likely provide Manitoba Plates.....in all honestly, i would either just take a plate with you to use until you get it home or get the dealer to fax you a copy of the documentation and take it to the MTO to get an Ontario plate before you go. Once it's registered in Manitoba, it's going to be more difficult to transfer it here and cost you twice...

Where does stone and gravel for our houses, roads, and buildings come from? How far can it be trucked before the environmental impact from the diesel fuel and emissions from the trucks outweighs the inconvenience of having a quarry or a pit nearby? At about 60 km, the cost of trucking equals the cost of the stone....how much are you willing to pay in cash and emissions to get this material that we all use??? None of us want this in our own backyards but in all reality, a pit or quary is one of the least intrusive forms of industry that we have....unfortunately, it's an evil necessity in this country.

You would still hunt there after this??? Keep your head down!!

Why in the world is it illegal to transport live minnows?? Doesn't say anything about that in the Reg book I read....

I believe he was charged with 'Criminal Negligence" not homicide....kind of a moot point but somewhat important in some ways I guess...

This does work and lots of people do it but it is illegal in Canada. This connection must be done using and approved transfer switch that is mechanically interlocked to prevent the utility power from being connected at the same time as the generator power. I think the OP's idea of the separate cord and plug on his pump will do the job he is intending to do safely and legally.

Thanks for the detailed info on the Inn guys. I have never stayed at the Harbour Inn but was kind of thinking of giving it a try. I was hoping that I could leave the boat in the water but trailering it around is always an option too, keeps things flexible. If you saw the guys I go with trying to help launch and load a boat you would understand why I'd rather leave it in.... it's far easier by myself. I haven't winterized the boat yet and am still thinking a Qunite run might be in order but the forecasts have been crap the last few weekends so I guess I'll just keep watching and hoping.... As far as the musty pillows go, I think I can handle it, it will remind me of home.

I think you said you were staying at the Picton Harbour Inn in your earlier post. Despite the fishing, how was the inn? Did you leave your boat at their docks? Quinte can be really tough but it can also be a goldmine of fish when they choose to cooperate. Either way, it's a gorgeous place to spend some time in the fall.

x2, Thanks Slowpoke...the actual Regulation is Paragraph 10 in the Small Vessel Reg's and it's very clear....don't know why I couldn't find it before but maybe I was reading the old regs.
-
I have heard this over and over again but nowhere can I find in any regulations where it states this.....any ideas? Not saying it's not a good idea to wear it but just like to know the truth as opposed to hearsay....

I started making my own harnesses this year too and tried a bunch of different things. Here's what I found: 1) fluorocarbon (I used 14#) was far less prone to twisting up than mono 2) the shank barbs on baitholder hooks are a bad thing. We had a few that the upper hook barbs on the back of the hook cut the line to the lower hook resulting in lost fish 3) bagging and storing harnesses sucks especially the longer ones. The best thing I found was to buy a bag of the 2" x 8" ziplock bags from Luremaking.com. I then bought a package of the thin, teflon, cutting boards from Crappy Tire. They had packs of 3 different coloured sheets about 17" x 11" in the cooking section for like $5. I cut them up into 1-1/2" x 7" strips, punched a hole 1/2" from each end and then slit the plastic from the hole to the end of strip. Round off the corners and you're all set. The bottom hook slips into one hole and then the line wraps around the card from hole to hole and kind of snaps into place. It seems to hold them nicely while you bag them up. The teflon is waterproof so you can re-use them 'til you lose them... Here's a pic but it's not too clear:

Point is, start another thread, preferrably on another forum, to debate bottled water. Although it is great cannon fodder for so called environmentalists, it has nothing to do with this particular discussion.
-
So, just to sum things up: 1) Women are to blame for the mutant fish and should give up the pill 2) Fish with both sex organs like to party 3) The last point is not 100% clear... It's either that mutant fish are the bottled water manufacturer's fault or the fish should not have used bottled water, I'm not sure. In either case, we need to blame the world's problems on water bottlers, they are evil. Soda pop manufacturs apparently use no water, plastic or energy and provide a healthy product for our kids.... I'll take what's behind door #2 cause it makes me laugh. How folks can turn a serious concern over pharmaceutical chemicals in our ground water into an arguement over the safety and morality of putting water in a bottle totally escapes me. They are mutually exclusive arguements and the latter one has nothing to do with the original post.

Princecraft boats are NOT Canadian....they are made in Quebec.

Whether you agree with it or not, the local law enforcement agencies handout out literally hundreds of tickets for this on the West end of lake Ontario this year. They simply asked a totally obscure question about the numbers or markings on a nearby marker buoy and if you couldn't answer it, they ticketed you based on your "lack of local knowledge". It makes absoutely no sense but this is what is happening. You can always fight the $200 fine if you wish but it seems that resistance is futile and it's probably not a bad idea to have a chart onboard anyway.

Not likely a carb problem, Optimax engines are fuel injected. If the fuel filter were plugged it would be losing power at high speed before low speed and would give you a low fuel pressure alarm. If there is water in the separator (which is onboard the engine) it will give you a "water in fuel" alarm. These problems are common with older outboards but these new things are far more complex and there aren't many simple solutions. Spark plugs are rarely an issue on these engines and at $40 each it's an expensive experiment. I know the Throttle Position Sensors can cause this if they fail but you have to go to the dealer to and the problem diagnosed. The TPS and idle speed are not adjustable but are all controlled through the PCM and you need the high tech gear to figure it out. Ignition coils have also been problematic on some engines but like hirk says, it's well worth the cost to pin the problem down and get it fixed properly before anything else gets messed up...these things are pretty high tech and the old band aid fixes we used to apply to outboards don't very often work anymore. If you don't have the diagnostic equipment, you're pretty well forced to go to somebody who does unfortunately and given the cost of parts, it can be a costly adventure to just start guessing at things. Good Luck and please post when you find the problem....

I didn't see that one in my Googling but there are quite a few fines on the MNR enforcement page and most are pretty steep, the one was $1600 but it was for multiple boats scattered throughout the area...this was news to me too, we have a number of boats up there stashed away but I'm not certain if they are in the designated lakes or not. I think the camo tarp policy is being applied to these boats anyway....
