  1. Ya it kinda sucks that we can't trash the pedophiles on OFC doesn't it?
  2. This wasn't Bruce's first run in with the law apparently: https://www.baytoday.ca/local-news/men-charged-with-possession-of-property-obtained-by-crime-update-37483
  3. Exactly, but you will have a hard time convincing most people that, for the same reason, their cannon balls are not really as deep as they read on their sonar.....
  4. The Airmar P66 is a transom mounted dual frequency transducer that operates at either 50 or 200 kHz. It is intended to replace the stock Lowrance transducers sold with Elite & HDS units. The Lowrance transducers sold for shallower fresh water applications are dual frequency 83/200 kHz (such as the HST-WSBL). They will both work on your Lowrance HDS units and both have the same cone angles at 200Hz (about 20 degrees) but when used at the at the lower frequencies (50 for the Airmar and 83kHz for the Lowrance) they perform much differently (the 50kHz gives you a wider cone angle but much less detail). I personally feel the 83 is more suitable for most fresh water applications but Airmar does not make an 83/200 so you kind of have to make a choice. That said, the stock Lowrance 'ducers do seem to have a limited lifespan and supposedly the Airmars are much more stable over the long haul. Likely, both new out of the box would perform similarly but from what I gather, the Lowrance 'ducers fade over time much more than the Airmars do. Ballpark costs are 200 bones for the Airmar and about 85 bucks for the WSBL. Not sure if that helps at all, but that's what I have learned with a bit of research.....I have two WSBL's mounted on my stern and one is dead so I think I'll replace it with an Airmar and do a side by side comparison. In between playing with the toys, maybe I'll find a spare moment to actually catch a fish or two...
  5. You could do that but the junction box makes replacement a breeze....
  6. Radioworld sells them but they are listed under your unit manufacturers name (not 'Airmar') on their site. Here is the P-66 for example that works with Lowrance: http://radioworld.ca/p66-bl-p-1385.html
  7. I was doing some research on this and Airmar makes a junction box that you can mount near the back of the boat that will do the job, I am definitely doing this on my next change. The part number is Airmar 33-035-BOX http://faq.airmar.com/index.php?action=artikel&cat=1&id=45&artlang=en
  8. Amen to that! I understand that the Airmar transducers last way longer but are they really worth the extra money?
  9. Beaverland Camp is a great place to stay but I would describe it as a little more 'rustic' than you may want...check out their website and see what you think. It's a fun camp with great scenery, good fishing and also has a little community hall for fun after the day is over. http://www.beaverland.on.ca/
  10. My mother was getting the CRA scam when it first started a couple of years ago now and the OPP fraud investigator told her that the majority of these calls originate from other countries so there is little chance they will be caught and even less of chance of them being prosecuted (basically they are wasting their time investigating). The guy that was bilked this week in the credit card call scam was sending his money by wire to China...not much the local cops can do. http://www.680news.com/2016/03/16/halton-senior-nearly-loses-8900-in-telephone-scam/ http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/new-credit-card-phishing-scam-hits-canada-1.2930562
  11. The perpetrators don't care because they know that they are safe offshore and there is virtually no effort by law enforcement to prosecute them because it is basically a futile effort. Your only defense is to educate your kids and elderly parents in their tactics and don't give out any info on the phone. The latest one going around is they call you in the middle of the night and tell you your credit card has been used. I told them I had multiple cards at different banks and asked which card; they hung up.
  12. They offered it because the provincial government told them they had to......
  13. I'll drink to that brother! I'm thinking I better go home and put the rubber boot snows back on the truck....
  14. From this chart, it looks like the majority of the policies require their use until the end of March but some are different as are the discount percentages and the parts of the policies the discounts apply to: http://www.ggninsurance.ca/uploads/7/6/4/9/7649154/carrier_summary_-_winter_tire_disc_pdff.pdf
  15. I normally wait too but I changed my truck tires this weekend in anticipation of a trip or two to Detroit in the next week... It feels like you just took off a pair of rubber boots and slipped on some running shoes the first trip down the road! I do love the snows when it's slippery out but those summer tires sure do drive a lot nicer on the highway. Edit: I kind of forgot about the insurance thing and just checked, I was supposed to leave the snows on until April....DOH!
  16. When I got my one year old boat a few years ago I was all set to rip out the carpet and put in a vinyl floor since I figured the carpet would get destroyed by fishing. Upon further consideration, I decided I would wait a year or two until it was wrecked and then do the floor. I'm still waiting and even after 8 years of abuse it still doesn't look that bad! It's a pretty amazing carpet whatever it is but I'm afraid this year will be its last.
  17. For those nasty blood stains, hydrogen peroxide works wonders then rinse off. Hopefully everyone has blood stains on their boat carpets right???
  18. I have had dozens of packages shipped by USPS and only been dinged for taxes 1 time...not sure if it's because our local rural Post Office is kind or what but I have very good luck with even on big dollar items.....
  19. I was looking at this myself recently and there is a slightly less expensive series than the Seastar Pro series for boats up to 150 HP. It's from the same manufacturer and the model number I was given was HK4200A. They are advertised on line for just under $800 Cdn. I haven't pulled the trigger yet so let us know which way you go and how you make out: http://www.seastarsolutions.com/products/hydraulic-new/outboard-new/baystar/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgnXQNHDa7k Edit: Here is a good price on the kit, $900 Cdn including shipping by US Post (which usually means no tax or duty....): http://www.wmjmarine.com/88-6200.html I was looking at the Lowrance Outboard autopilot and the cable steer system is about $1000 more than the hydraulic steer system so I was wondering if I should just convert to hydraulic...haven't really made up my mind whether to do it or how,
  20. I actually felt a bit sorry for Phaneuf last night. Right off the opening draw he coughs up the puck and gives up a semi-breakaway 2 seconds into the game...I think maybe his nerves got the better of him. I'm not sure who won the fight but the tribute was kind of nice, notice they never did one for Kessel though.
  21. I have been making my own big harnesses for a few years and we catch lots of big walleye on the West end of Erie with them. I have tried lots of combinations but my standard heavy harness is now made as follows: 55# black coated wire. It is twist & kink free and will stand up to lots of abuse. I tried lighter wire but it kinks and twists too easily. #4 Treble hook on the bottom & #4 single hook 3" above. You could maybe go a size bigger but these seem to work fine. I quit using baitholder hooks on the top since the barbs on the back of the shank have a tendency to nick the line resulting in a lost treble & fish (this likely wouldn't be a big problem with the 55lb wire but it certainly was with fluro or lighter wire) 1/4 beads quick change clevis. I tried to nice coiled steel ones but they are a pain to swap. The plastic ones are very easy to change and I have only ever lost a couple of blades with them #5 blades are the biggest I ever use and they drag pretty hard, I really don't think you need to go bigger in fact we often run #4's too. crimp the treble and top loop with #3 (.055 dia) crimps. You can still tie a snell on upper hook even with the 55# wire (it's not really easy but once you get the hang of it it's not bad) I make them about 3 feet long and pull them behind bottom bouncers and in-line weights. I was concerned about the wire being too bulky in the water but I tested these side by side with flurocarbon rigs and couldn't see any difference in the catch rate. The nice thing about them is they are bulletproof and last really well.
  22. How did this thread from 2014 get resurrected? Still very encouraging but kind of came back from the archives somehow...
  23. Here is your Ontario Debt Clock: http://www.debtclock.ca/provincial-debtclocks/ontario/ontario-s-debt/ and you have to add that number to the National Debt Clock: http://www.debtclock.ca/ The shocking thing is that the Ontario per capita debt is 1.5 times the national number...... Human nature dictates that's the population is all for cutting spending as long as doesn't affect their lifestyle. As a result we as a population will never elect anyone who tackles the deficits & debt head on. It's far more palatable to just line up at the trough for our 'free stuff' hoping someone else foots the bill and pretending that everything is hunky dory. It's kind of reminiscent of how the people of Greece have handled their debt crisis.
