  1. Size of a dog is really important, atleast it was to me Joey. My kids bugged and bugged to get a dog, and when I finally gave in we decided on a beagle. Lily is small enough to pick up and take anywhere, she hunts rabbits, rarely barks, although she does occationally howl when she is hunting or when she wants something. When she was a pup I made sure she was crate trained. Now she goes everywhere with me! The crate goes in the back of the car, she hops in and off we go. Since she is fairly small and the crate is light I carry her into the office and take her outside to play often. If she stays home I have a kennel outside with a dog house, however we don't often use it. She is never left at home in the house alone. If you start when they are young and make them a part of everything you do dogs adapt to your lifestyle. She has been such a wonderful addition to our family, and honestly I love having her with me all the time.
  2. As I read your post I found my self thinking wow... 1000 fish, all sorts of weather, all that time researching, reading, wondering through tackle shops, researching rods, reels, tackle, lines... no time at all to think... Why the heck didn't I think of that instead of letting dust collect on my rods for so long when I found myself in the same place as you. Sorry to hear of the loss of your mom! Thank you for the lesson I learned from you tonight, and for sharing a journey that was not only an accomplishment of a goal but a beautiful committment to yourself. oh yeah, Awesome fishing !!

  4. If I had a moment I'd love to fish with you again sometime... Just a heads up, if you have the opportunity to fish with this man, take it... you will have an amazing day
  5. I have gar on my list, and I definately want to spend more time ice fishing the lakes up in the Haliburton forest...
  6. Sometimes it rains to keep ya locked inside together ... just saying We all need that kind of time together ! I am glad to hear you finally managed to find a moment to get away together. |Thanks for sharing!
  7. Our thoughts and prayers to you and your family. I am so very sorry for your loss!
  8. Reading your reports, I first see the fish, and then the whole entire picture comes into focus, the boat, how the colours behind you have changed and developed, the water clarity or depth , the smile behind your eyes, and then I hear the joy in your words... Such a pleasure your posts are ... a view through your eyes, however small into the spectacular place you call home! Amazing fishing Drew, thanks for sharing
  9. Not so corny Roy, I am sure he must have had a hand in the catching part... lake trout in the fall Jigging pfft... and white fish on spinners?? He was laughing his short little A** off the entire time from his little tiny fishing boat in the clouds! It's great to be back on the water enjoying the moments that I love again!
  10. wishing I hadn't winterized the boat maybe ... hmmm... thinking... a possibility.
  11. You wrote a very good post. Nice job catching those fish. You have fallen in love with one of the most amazing sports and it looks like you and your dad are having a wonderful time together.
  12. I haven't posted in a while, life has kept me rather busy and away from fishing I am afraid, however this trip could not be missed. What follows is a weekend to remember! My father, brother and a friend always made a weekend trip to Temagami for a fall fish... Since Sonny's been gone, my dad and his buddy have been going! This year dads buddy couldn't make it... so dad decided to take his daughters instead. Our Arrival ( Dad said, pack warm, it will be very cold, probably rain the whole time we are there!) 16 - 20 degree sunny weather the whole weekend! Needless to say we overpacked! 15 minute boat ride from the launch to the island Unpacked and got right out fishing! Dad also said we shouldn't really expect to catch many fish ( they never really do well during the fall )... first night, a nice pike, a couple of bass and this great little guy, who I actually felt hit on my new carrot rod! Go figure! We all love to sleep in so never got out for an early morning fish... Which is why I don't think we ever managed to catch a walleye. However, we did catch more bass, white fish, and lake trout. It was an amazing weekend, seeing where our dad and brother would run away to several times a year and actually managing to outfish them once we finally got to go! I guess the black and silver rapala J-11 wasn't the only lure to use up there...eh dad? lol The weather managed to hold off until we had the boat loaded and we were heading home... The whole trip home it poured rain and we talked about what a wonderful time we had and how lucky we were to not only have been blessed with good weather but the opportunity to spend time together. I should edit this a bit just to add the whitefish we caught trolling on mepps spinners, the lake trout jigging huge spoons while drifting over 80 to 150 ft drop offs and the bass on crappie rigs. Unconventional fishing to say the least!

    Huge Pike

Great catch definately... If I am holding a fish away from me like that it is usually so I don't get all slimmy. No one mentioned that part!
  14. Everday will bring new hope... my thoughts and prayers go to you and yours...
  15. I am curious as to why no one here has mentioned the use of an oil pump to remove the oil before you actually take off the drain plug, it certainly saves the mess!
  16. Thanks for those words on my brothers profile!

  17. My name ( Bernadette) was difficult and too long to say for some of my "not so swift friends"! LMAO you know who you are! ... so they changed and shortened it to "JEN" ( I love the opportunity to blame everything on Jen so that Bernadette doesn't have to take any responsibility for that lost fish or the boat not going on the trailer straight ... or basically whatever may come along)
  18. Plastic Barrels, build the dock put the lids on them and attach. For a 4x8 section you will probably only need four!
  19. My guess would be Rosyface Shinner - The spawning male has an orange or red head and a light red belly where as the spawing females are paler red.
  20. Great post and nice fish! Bet your dad enjoyed his Fathers day!
  21. Happy Birthday to an amazing woman!
  22. That's awesome Steve, thanks for letting everyone know. I have been waiting to hear that they are back! In regards to the comment by "Brifishrgy" ... in what way shape or form is it spam when someone posts that they are catching fish, and they include the bait and on what rig? This is a fishing site and also a community made up of some of the very best fishermen and women in Southern Ontario and beyond. I come here for information, to see who is catching fish and where and more often than not to read and enjoy the adventures of others. There is a great amount of joy and pleasure posted on these pages. Please think about that in the future when posting negative opinions or comments, as they certainly have an inpact on the overall feel of a post and this forum. Channel Cats start to run up the rivers and streams from the lake in the spring to breed, they can be caught in many areas, the fact that Fishmaster has posted that he is catching them in no way shape or form is spam, it is a "fishing related post". Cats can be caught anywhere and with almost anything... The Channel Cat Derby is a 100% cash back derby... I know lots of people who were waiting on hearing that the cats are in the river, thanks so much to Steve and Luke. I know my family will be out there chasing after a fish that beats the almost 30lber last year.
  23. Click here to see my little sisters way of keeping me entertained to set this one up, it was an extreamly hot day on Lake Ontario... My sister brother in law and I were out salmon fishing... Jokingly I asked her to do a fish dance and she came up with this little ditty... Needless to say we have a lot of fun out on the water ! Cheers Jen (Bernadette)
  24. I have spent a great deal of time on the water fishing with some really great fishermen... Cats season is my favorite and I will have to say, after trying a lot of different baits, cut sucker meat is the best... I have had guys come into the shop who swear by other methods changing their minds after watching guys pull in one cat after another on that stuff. Its clean, its easy and you don't have to let it rot! Cheers, Jen
