How'd he get a fish on a lure still in the package
-
Yep it was a good day. Great company, great hosts and a sunny beautiful day at a beauty spot. Nice to meet you Bill and thx for posting the pics...I gotta show an interest in figuring that out sometime. Anytime anyone wants to plan a day out there again I would be more then happy to tag along.
-
Beauty day out there for sure. Always a pleasure Beansie and Cliff and nice to meet you for the first time Bill. What a gem of a lake. Couldn't have been more then a dozen huts on THE WHOLE LAKE...and no portables ANYWHERE. No sleds roaring around...it was great. Fishing could have been better...but we had a beauty day and the company was 1st rate. I would go back to this place in a heart beat. Thx guys for a great day on the hardwater.

Best Store for Icefishing Winter Clothing?
crappieperchhunter replied to ozaibak1's topic in General Discussion
Well I have boots rated for -100 and I still get cold toes every once in awhile. If you are at all serious about getting out on the ice regularly or for extended periods of time...I wouldn't recommend anything less then -100 rated. My 2 cents.... -
I get both. But I tend not to get as many crappie. However I think this has more to do with how I jig. I jig fairly constantly and often aggressively, which I think crappie in general do not like. They seem to prefer a more gentle lift and drop slowly type of presentation...in my experience anyway. When I fish the BOG I am after EYES, so I jig for them. However when I do get crappies and even perch, they tend to be better sized ones.

I have never done well on Scugog with a set line and a minnow. Always get way more fish jigging...but I always tip with a piece of minnow. If you use a whole minnow you miss alot of fish because they grab the minnow and not the hook. So my normal routine now is to buy minnows Jan 1st for the opener and keep them in a pail in my cold cellar with a fish tank bubbler to give them oxygen or you can just change the water once a week or so . Make sure you get stuff at a pet store to get the chlorine out of the water first.A bottle lasts years. When it is time to go fishing I scoop out 3-4 minnows and cut them into 1 inch chunks. The dace I get at the Causeway usually give you 3 pcs per minnow... the head, the middle section and the tail. I put the 9-12 chunks in a small plastic container that fits in my floater suit pocket and I'm good to go. Don't have to stop for minnows again or have the inconvenience and weight of lugging a bucket of minnows around. If I don't use up all the chunks that night and am going again soon, I just throw the container in the fridge when I get home. Works good for me and 2 dozen minnows always gets me through the 3 weeks I fish up there. P.S. The head chunks stay on the hook the best. Followed by the tail chunks. I use the middle chunks up first when the bite is not on. When the eyes turn on I switch to the chunks that stay on the hook the best. Good luck when you get out.

Rich my go to bait for perch on Simcoe is #2 sized jigging rap's tipped with a neon pink power wiggler on the treble.. My fav colours are firetiger and parrot. Also chartruse with the red throat. Haven't used minnows on Simcoe for years. Good luck at getting bit!!!!

(NF) Whats everyone preparing for New Years Eve dinner?
crappieperchhunter replied to Burtess's topic in General Discussion
That looks like a meal fit for a king! Our son is currently seeing a young lady from Australia. He has said there lamb is to die for. Having never tried lamb, I am racking my brains trying to figure out a way to get an invite over for supper. -

bubbly with a 0 rating. you knowz your stuff. Debbe and I had a nice steak with our 2nd last Acorn squash from my garden prepared with carmalized shallots and a touch of brown sugar and some steamed broccoli with a light almond/garlic sauce. Served with a bottle or 2 of our Fav homemade red. Nothing fancy but a fitting ending to 2008. Happy 2009 to all. -
May everyone's 2009 be filled with Health, Happiness and FISH I have asked the man upstairs not to skimp on any of the above.

Enjoyed that. Thx for sharing. Teach Bert how to run the auger and you have got a fishing buddy for life!!! -
Count on it Monday the 5th's long range weather looks prime for an evening slab fest!!!! BTW does "THE SPOT" have a morning bite too...or just the evening?
-
Nice work Shayne. I'm jealous as all get out. Maybe see you on the Bog Jan 1 for eyes and crappie. And the following week in the evenings for sure. Once again nice work!!!

I was wondering if that was the no knead recipe when I saw the pictures. I have been thinking of trying it . What did you but it in for it's time in the oven? The recipes I saw called for a dutch oven which we don't have, which is why I have not tried doing it yet. It looks great. I know it would not last past one meal at our place. Debbe especially loves fresh bread.
-
Yeah they work real good. But Debbe's the only one who gets to see my REAL MOVES
-
Tried them all... original is still my favourite. The only one I don't like is Cajun. I like spicy stuff... just not on freshwater fish. The cajun is good on pork chops though.
-
I don't care what anyone says, that's funny right there.
-
Nothing...and I mean nothing...is better then getting a DEAL. Good on you!!! Give them gobbler's hell this spring.

Hand Augers... do they work well?
crappieperchhunter replied to profisher25's topic in General Discussion
I used to have an 8 inch hand auger....but never used it....cause it is a TON more work cutting an 8 inch hole. Now that I'm starting to fish whities and lakers a little bit...I wish I had never got rid of it. Hang onto the 8...you already have it. Just put the 6 inch on your Christmas list for another year. Someday you will be glad you did.
