Yeah that news got me thinking about mine as well. I guess that's what motivated me to invite my daughter and grandson over for lunch yesterday. Made her my lasagna....she thinks it's the best in the world... along with a few other things she likes and had a nice visit before I went into work at 3. Didn't want her to think the old man was getting all soft and mushy in his old age though, so I kicked her behind in a couple games of cribbage while Lucas was having a nap. Enjoy all your family and friends. What's more important then that?

Years ago I taste tested Rock bass, perch and crappie at the same time. Of those 3...Perch was my fav then rockies, then crappie. From cold spring water or through the ice they are great. Warmer water fish seem to have a stronger taste, so in the summer and fall I release them, or use them in fish chowder. They are no more boney then any other panfish, but there skin/scales are a lot harder to get through...so make sure you have a good knife or it can be frustrating.

Not sure when you moved to Barrie Brian...but I thought it was too much like a city 25 years ago. To me any berg with over 5,000 people .... IS A CITY!

I admire your dedication to fish in the conditions we had today. Hats off to you. Typically though the best crappie fishing there is the first 3 days to a week that the ice has moved out. Past experience dictates that the bigger crappie have come and gone already. Wednesday night was good for bigger slabs. Many 10-12 inchers caught that evening. Those fish are long gone now.

Kyle's old man and mine are neighbors. The last I heard he was out in Alberta living in God's country, with no internet access. BTW I was just yanking everyone's chain about making the Brown fishing too hard. Getting out for a day on the water is what it's all about. The rest is just details. Good fishing to all

Move on! No crappie in the Kawartha's.

Jeez I grew up in Fergus. Close to the hydo line pool, which is a no kill zone. I go back every couple of years and fish the Elora stretch with my brother, who still lives in Elora. 2 Inches of dew worm on any kind of sharp hook you can find, does the job. I'm thinkin you guys are turning it into WAY TO MUCH WORK!!!! I'm sure Kyle M...my dad's old neighbor out in West Gary would agree.

When I'm up perchin I always make a trip over to check them out there. Never get tired of watching. Some real brutes that's for sure. Thx for sharing....cause it means the good perching is just around the corner.

You have a basement anybody would be proud of. Hats off to you. And I'm sure your old man is proud of you too. P.S. Don't have any yet...but I'm a big fan of James Lumbers as well. -
Good job Bruce. A beauty day to be out with a fishing buddy...and some fish to boot. Can't beat that !!! I know you and the puppies will enjoy the fish fry...cause I've had fish dinner at your place, and it was awesome. My perch heaven is about 20 days away from being prime time....so keep the pictures and reports coming to keep me sane.

Got a DIAWA 1300 years ago. Nothing else has been on my steelie rod since and it still works as well as the day I got it.

Not an expert Brian. But the pinkies do work. I do have way more confidence in the steelie jigs though. Last year I did awesome on them. It was the first year I gave them a real honest try and I was pleasantly surprised. I also really like the fact that the more I use jigs the less roe I use..which of course means less fish kept for spawn. Not to mention less tying roe bags. It's a win /win in my opinion. The eastern tribs I fish seem to have a pretty common pattern. Roe at first light until 8-8:30ish...or when the bite slows. Then switch over to jigs. I find jigs work awesome mid morning to mid afternoon. Then back to roe to fish the end of the day. I have the most confidence in black, black/purple, black/chartruese. I know the lighter brighter colours work. The conditions I tend to get out on seem to favor the dark colors though. Hoping to hit a trib tomorrow after work for my first 2009 STEEL.

New proposed fishing regulations for 2010

Lower limits on SLABS....I support. More opportunities through the ice on the Kawartha's for pannies and eyes I support. I never target Ski's so whatever direction that takes is out of my area of expertise. Your big TEASE sounds so GOOD. Bring it on!!! -
GM/CAW Cuts - are they all they are cracked up to be?
crappieperchhunter replied to Dutch's topic in General Discussion
Our company was one of the first ones to do this in the early eighties. It was Heaven. Get a 3 day long weekend every weekend and work 4 days. And after taxes etc, etc all you lost was peanuts. Don't know why more companies don't consider it. Keeps your workforce intact and everybody wins. The employees and the company. -
Machine through the ice on Sturgeon Lake
crappieperchhunter replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I hope he learns as well...but some never do. Every spring I see some loogans running machines over 30-50 feet of OPEN water at the mouth of the trent where it empties into Simcoe I hope it never happens...but I'm betting I will see one of them not make it sooner or later. -
Bobcaygeon is our Happy place. Has everything Debbe and I need for a happy retirement. We have a little place in town up there we use as a summer cottage and plan on moving in full time when we retire. Can walk to everything in town and lots of things to do and places to fish. Taxes are less then 1/3 what I pay in Oshawa so that's a bonus too. I worked for the MNR in the early 80's based on Helen Lake outta Nipigon. Also worked Fire crew outta Armstrong for part of that summer as well. These would be my 2nd choices...but a little too far off the beaten track for Debbe I think...especially Armstrong!!!!

Yes it was a good day Bruce. I enjoyed myself very much and was glad to get out with you and Emil and his son. Emil your young lad is a gem. You got yourself a fishing partner for life right there. It was nice to meet your family too Bruce and the fish fry was awesome. I don't know if I will make it back down this year, but I would like to make it down a couple of times next winter and I will hunt you down if I do. Hopefully Big Cliff can join in as well. I know he enjoyed his trip down there too. Keep some time open for a fall perch trip. I owe you a nice day on the water. Thx again for the great day. Regards, Steve

#3 is a problem??? Is this CANADA or the beach at Club Med? I'm with Burtess...summer is actually my least favourite 2-3 months of the year. Spring, Fall, Winter.....yeah Baby. Smelt fishing through the ice tomorrow. What could be better then sitting on a BIG HUNK of ice with a fishing rod in your hands????

Good on you for helping out Bruce. Getting the kids into any kind of fishing is always a worthwhile pass time.

I want to down load some music
crappieperchhunter replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Get some tequila into everybody and they will be doing the chicken dance to whatever you play I have been using Limewire for years Cliff....no problems so far. -
Good luck with that theory. Cause if all the local shops close up...you'll be driving to Richmond Hill for car repairs too There are good guys everywhere....and crooks everywhere. If you find a garage that gives you a square deal stick with em.
