I use braid for everything. Ice and softwater. Any line will freeze, doesn't matter what you use. S.

Do I need to apply anything to new boat floor?
Sinker replied to 10point's topic in General Discussion
I like the bare wood better than carpet! S. -
I've kept mine at the moorings, on sturgeon lake a few times. Not sure what the price is now, but at the time, I paid about 350 for the season. Just a dock, no services. S.

Take a look at the arctic armour suits. They are two piece, but warm as hell, very flexible, and super comfortable. They are also laid out better than any other floater suit I've seen, with regards to pockets, and hand warming aids. I have a helly hanson soft flex now, its great. I had a mustang before this one, and it was also great. Lasted me about 15 years of hard use. I wear mine from the beginning of september duck hunting, till the end of april most years, so its not a 3 or 4 times a season wear. My Helly Hanson suit is going on its 5th season, and I have no complaints except for the wrist bands and there is no camo suits. They are uncomfortable at the wrists, and never stay done up properly. I always pull my wool sweater down past the cuffs of the suit for comfort and warmth on my wrists. Anyways, they're all good. Try some on, find a good price, and pull the trigger. Ya can't go wrong either way. By far the most used fishing/hunting tool I own, and worth every penny if you do take a late season dunking!! I fished out in that rain yesterday for 4 hours straight, and came home dry as a bone. S.

Nice boat for sure, but is 75 ponies going to b enough? Whats it rated for? Seems a little under powered, but I could be wrong. My buddy has one with a 90 on it, and with 3 guys and gear, she's a bit slow getting up on plane. Nice boat to fish out of, but its no tiller S.

Good stuff jaques! 24/7...google northland tackle....search for macho minnow. Its pretty much a mr champ with the northland holographic images on it. i use them a lot for walleyes, and they work great. I get whities on them as well. S.

Sounds like your truck needs a new ground to me. S.

I'm putting my money on a weak battery. Sure, the block heater will help get it turning over, but its not going to help the weak battery get stronger. I'd suggest load testing your battery before it lets you down on a real cold night. S.

Bankes will take photo's for you. I've seen some of their work being done for others, in a step by step process. Its a good way to see what they are covering up as well, just in case you need to get in there for something in the future. S.

You think he's a beast now, just wait till he's 90lbs of energy at 7 yrs old. They never grow out of the puppy phase if you ask me. Mine will run all day if I let him. Give him a ball, and someone to throw it, and he's good for all day, no problem. Its funny, I have a chocolate, and also a cat that looks identical to yours. In my case though, the cat runs the house. The dog could care less until the door opens to go outside......I think then he laughs at the cat!! She stays inside. S.

I don't think Steve is looking to save a few bucks on this, but I could be wrong. Sounds to me like he wants the best job done on his boat, because he can't find what he wants in a new one. Going to Bankes is a good move if that is the case. They will do an awesome job, and it will last for a long, long time. Its going to cost ya though, but it will be worth it. You'll get what you want out of it and then some. They do some amazing work. Their hand laid glass boats are second to none. They are definitly at the top of their class in boat building. S.
-
If you want to pay the price for a good job done, going with Bankes is a great idea! They make a great boat, and I've heard nothing but good about their quality. Family owned business, you can't go wrong. Just be prepared to open your wallet. You'll get your monies worth though, they know how to make a boat. S.

All you have to do is ask your neighbors. As long as they are cool with what your doing, chances are nobody else will know, or care. If your neighbors aren't into it, good luck. You don't need a permit to repair existing. S.

Battery charger for 7a gal batteries? (Portable finder batteries)
Sinker replied to BillM's topic in General Discussion
I have been using the same charger I use for my deep cycles for 4 years now on mine. Works fine. Its a nautilus deep cycle charger. Just set it on 2A charge, and wait till the little green light comes on, then go fishing. S. -
I'd add the second battery. If for nothing else, piece of mind. If your single battery fails, your out of luck. I run two all the time. When one failed, I really missed the added power of the second battery. The second battery wired together in a 12 V circuit will increase your run time substantially. Do you run a TM on that boat? Electric start motor? It must have a manual start on it as well though, no? S.
-
yeah, my powerdrive pedal sucks. You get 2, maybe 3 season out of them in my experience. I wouldn't have any other TM though. I just like the set it and forget it features. Turn it on and go. S.

What kind of boat is this?? I'd sell it and move on. How long have you had this 3rd hull? Good lord, I'd be afraid to take that boat anywhere!! Get rid of it while you can, and get something riveted. I don't know of a single welded hull with no broken welds. There is always a weld busted somewhere, whether its minor or major. It only needs to let go once and your sunk. These things tend to happen very quick, and always when you least expect it. I'd rather have a leaky riveted hull myself. I"m not into buying things that are known to break. Who cares if you get good service from the dealer, I want a boat that's going to last me, and not fall apart. How long were you out of a boat while waiting for the new one(s)?? That's crazy, I'd be fighting for a full refund the second time around. What if you were out with your family, and the hull split open, and the boat sunk?? What then?? Do you think the dealer would compensate you for the death of your family?? I don't. Get rid of it for your own safety at the very least. S.
-
What was the cause of the riveted hull splitting?? I've never heard of a split riveted hull before, so this is interesting to me. And please don't say they ran it aground, or hit a shoal, or dropped it off the trailer. That doesn't count! S.
-
You ever seen a riveted smoker craft split open? I haven't.... Ever seen a welded crestliner split open.....I have.....several of them. I'm not partial to welded aluminum boats, even though crestliners are good hulls, I would stay away from the welded hull. Why are they selling it? smoker craft is part of the starcraft line of boats. Just search for problems with starfcraft hulls....good luck. Also take a look at how may star/smokercraft boats are still around from the 70's, and still going strong. That is enough to sway me to pick the smoker craft. S.

When I painted my aluminum, I just sanded what was there, cleaned it with an acetone soaked rag, and applied paint. That was 5 years ago, and its holding up pretty good. If your painting bare aluminum, you need a self etching primer for sure. The only place the paint came off mine was on the tops of the gunnels, where it was bare aluminum, and I didn't use primer on it. I just used paint from Rona. I think it was called expressions or something. Exterior paint. I wanted ultra flat, in the colour of dead grass. They colour matched it for me from a handful of dead bullrushes. So far so good. There are a few spots on the inside that get a beating where the paint has been scraped off, but I would expect that from any paint job. S.

You can snag them just the same with a meegs/badboy type lure too. If its hooked in the face, its dinner. Get a camera down there and have a look at what they're doing while your jigging. You would be surprised how many times they miss your lure. I've also seen them hover over the jig, like Harrison mentioned. It happens, there's not much you can do about it. I find it more fun to make them bite myself, but I see plenty of people out there rip jigging them, and keeping them. IMO, keeping the foul hooked fish is probably better than releasing them. AFter you fight a foul hooked fish, they are beat. I'm not sure if many of them survive. S.

I don't know how edible they would be, its illegal to find out. I know you can make anything taste OK in sausages or pepperettes though. They can't be much worse than a merganser, or old squaw, and I eat them too. Are crows edible? I'm not sure, I've never eaten one. Are they a nuisance? Yuuupp! Is hunting a means of controlling their population? Yuuuup... Are coyotes edible?? I've never tried, and wouldn't ever, but I'll shoot every one that comes in range. They are also considered a nuisance, and hunting is used as a control on their populations. There is quite a long list, but I'll leave it at that. Why keep cormorants listed as a protected species? Its not like thier population is in and danger. S.
-
I'm not sure, its illegal to find out. You can make anything edible in pepperettes or sausage. Add enough pork and it will taste fine. You can hunt crows....are they edible? Not really......are they a nuisance....yuuuup! I just want the protected status taken off. It makes no sense to protect a bird that is overpopulating the waters from here to the east coast. It will only get worse before it gets better. My old man tells me on the east coast they are everywhere. He said they try to steal the fish right off your line. Could you imagine?? s.
-
I'm not talking about a cull. I would like a hunting season on them. Why are we still protecting these birds?

I thought it was the other guys fault. He clearly moved into the path of the oncoming sled. What I wonder is, were they buddies together in a group? You think the guy that was going fast, was with the other 3 guys? How bad would it suck to kill one of your friends? Stupid move. The guy didn't even look before moving. That had to hurt. S.
