  1. This is what I used as well. Works great. I used 6", ripped it in half, and added a length of 2x2 under it, to fill in the space, and have something more solid to screw them too. s.
  2. Nice! While your at it, could you get hunting allowed in the harbour too Ya never know, eh? S.
  3. STeve, the cordless drill and 6" bit would be perfect for you and your style of fishing. I still like my hand auger, but when the ice is 2ft thick, the gas sure is nice!! S.
  4. I would rip the 4" off the inside 2x10 (or use 2x6), and then sister it to the outside 2x10 so your 2x4 joists rest on top of it. Make sense? Thats how I did mine, and it works great. A lot easier, and just as effective as notching it. S.
  5. You can't go wrong with a Bravo. I've taken them into a TON of places a bigger machine wouldn't get close to. Its the first machine I go to when its time to break a trail!! Light, reliable, and easy to repair....if ti breaks down! If you can find the 340 long track, grab one. Probably the best bushwacking sled going. You don't need anything big to get places. A bravo will get you anywhere..........just not fast!! S.
  6. I would put washers on the nylock side as well. I'm sure it will be fine regardless. The plastic used in that unit should be able to withstand some cold weather, no? I would have left it stock myself. S.
  7. Spend the $ on proper treatment of your water, and make sure you understand what it is your doing. When was the last time you had your water tested by the health department for bacteria?? Sounds pretty nasty to me. I wouldn't even use it to wash dishes. I hope your not drinking that stuff??? S.
  8. I like the goop a lot better than shoe goo. It will seal anything up. Goood stuff for sure!! S.
  9. Check out homesprings filters. I run 4 of them at work, and they work awesome! They claim you can run raw sewage thru them, and drink it out the other end! I'm not sure it will help with your problem though, seems to me you need more than just a filter!! S.
  10. Wetting the net is a must!!!
  11. I'm also in the keep it simple group....although I do have a 1 man portable hut/graph/ number of rods. I just use my hut as a sled to haul my gear. I've never actually fished from the inside of it, just half flip it for a wind break and I'm good to go. I actually won an ice derby last winter with the old stick and string set up, and always use one, in tough conditions. They are pretty much a no fail set up, and work in any condition, for any kind of fish. Ya really can't go wrong. You really don't need much, but warm gear. That is very important. Lots of wool. Socks, mitts, toque....can't beat merino wool. I don't care what anyone argues, wool is tried, tested and proven to keep ya warm and dry! Don't cheap out on boots either. Spend a few bucks on quality boots, and some good socks. I really like the Bass pro socks, and they are guaranteed for life!! After that, you need a decent auger. I drilled with a swede bore for around 20 years before switching to a fin bore 3, and the difference is night and day. It took me a while to get used to turning the fin bore, but once I got the hang of it, drilling a hole is a piece of cake. I have only ever used an 8", but have drilled and fished from smaller. They are obviously easier to drill, but I like the bigger holes myself. They freeze up slower, and make it that much easier to land a big fish thru. With that said, I have iced a 7lb laker thru a 4" hole, so I'm not saying a small auger won't work!!! It will, you just gotta take your time with a big fish. You can go all out and have soo much gear that you won't be able to haul it out, or you can go out and sit on a bucket with a stick and string. You will still catch the same fish. If there is one piece of equipment I would highly reccomend, it would be a graph/flasher. You WILL catch more fish with one thru the ice! S.
  12. They screwed up Bewdley, and now Gores too?? Brutal! Might see ya there! S.
  13. Im another carpet hater. All it does is collect dirt, hooks, and never dries out. There are pluses and minus's with each though I suppose, so whatever works for you! S.
  14. It will drain in the down position. Your antifreeze would just run out as well. S.
  15. I have freinds with two just like that. One of them was nearly taken away by an owl at our cottage one night. Just something to think about. They are great little dogs, I'm sure you will enjoy his company!! S.
  16. She's a beauty!! I've had a starcraft since "93. She doesn't leak a drop. Its nothing special to look at now, but she's done me well all those years with no problems whatsoever!! Very versatile boat!! S.
  17. You can't go wrong with a starcraft. S.
  18. I will apologize, if it makes you feel better. I'm sorry, I don't like PTBO. Are we O.K now?
  19. Whatever..... Of all the places in the kawartha lakes, PTBO is the worste. I would never live there, period. You guys can do what you want. No need to call names, and be a prick!!! S.
  20. I like molson, or gibson. My next dog will be one or the other. S.
  21. Say what???? Have you ever lived there??
  22. If you take the dog with you everywhere you go, from the time you get it, it will adjust to your lifestyle, no problem. When I got Wyatt from Harrison, he was NUTS in the boat, and would drive me crazy at times. The more I took him out, the better he got. Now he has his place, and is no trouble at all. I don't think Phil took him fishing at all LOL. I'm sure he was never in a boat before....if he was, it wasn't often enough!! He LOVES it now, and I take him everywhere!! Dogs will take after thier owner. As long as you spend the time with them, they are happy to go anywhere with you. S.
  23. I'm just stating my opinion of the city. I've lived there, and visit there a couple times a week. Its a dirt hole, scum bag city, compared to the rest of the kawartha lakes. I may be biased, as I've always lived in the country. Would never live in a city.....ever! Compare it to whatever you want. I'm just stating what I know about it. My car isn't the only one thats been broken into, and there are many, many other crimes going on there. Lots of assaults, and even a few murder cases this summer alone. I'm not sure how you guys know so much about it, seeing as your in SW ON?? Its one thing to drive thru once or twice a season, but I live nearby, and spend time there every week. Trust me, there are a lot of shady people in PTBO. I would never live there. If you want to live in this area, look into the smaller towns on the outskirts. Cobourg is nice, as is port hope.....even bowmanville/courtice/newcastle are decent, with access to 401 for work, and still less than an hour from most kawartha lakes, and minutes to great lake O fishing, and the east tribs. S.
  24. i never had an issue in Lindsay. i don't see crack heads hanging around on the street corners either. Sure, there are a lot of college kids partying etc, but not as many " losers" there. Check out how many methadone clinics are in PTBO.....seriously. Its crazy! how long have you lived up this way? GTA, or SW Ontario is out of the question for me. Too many people, and I hate people.
  25. I usually invite them aboard my boat. If they don't accept, they get told off. s.
