  1. Most of the leaves are gone here now, so I would think central is pretty clear of leaves. I'm still skeptical of what we're going to get up here. They can't get the 24hr forcast right, so why should I think they can get several days in advance right? Mother nature is going to do what she wants. Weather systems are constantly changing. Our models can't keep up with the rate they are changng, and a lot of times, are dead wrong. Good luck to you guys in the south! S.
  2. The guy is resourceful enough that he probably uses all that " junk" you see around his place. Guys like Sinclair, throw all that "junk" away, and go buy new "junk" instead of using a bit of ingenuity to make it! citiots have no clue! S.
  3. Ya, sure. No problem at all. Those runners really make a difference in a foot of snow, eh? Maybe on glare ice, and no snow, with nothing in it. If your planning on hauling that thing a couple miles, full of gear, with any amount of snow on the ice, have fun!! Been there, done that. A one man flip over is the way to go IMO. I've had both. Started with a one man flip, found it small, moved up to a two man flip, found it too much work to haul around by hand, now have a fish trap guide. Best set up for me. I can haul it around in snow, on long hauls, and I even take it in to back lakes where I have to break trail with snowshoes. The other way is to go with a pop up. They are great once they are set up, but if you have to move, they suck. I like the portability of the one man flip. All my gear stays right in the sled, I just flip it and go. Takes literally 3 seconds and your gone. I put runners on mine(they do nothing in deep snow, but protect the sled when there is no snow), and I recommend the travel cover too. There are lots of new portables on the market now, a lot that I don't even know about. I'm just giving you my view, from my experience. I spend a lot of days on the hardwater, on foot, hauling gear around, and this set up works the best for ME. S.
  4. I prefer my 22 ton splitter myself Much easier! S.
  5. Great read! Thanks for adding the story! S.
  6. Bah....a bit of rain and wind.....and its the end of the world. Gimme a break!! Media hype at its finest!! S.
  7. Does that make sense to you? How do you dispatch a wounded bird with an empty gun? As long as your not out chasing birds around, and then shooting them, its all good. Retrieving game has a different set of rules. You must use any means possible to retrieve crippled birds. S.
  8. You can shoot waterfowl from your boat, as long as there is no forward motion. With that said, If I have wounded a duck, I can chase that duck with my boat in order to immediately dispatch and retrieve it. S.
  9. You have nothing to worry about. Before you jump to conclusions, and call the cops about gunshots, do a little research. Your neighbour has no right to say a thing to those guys, and could be charged for any interference with a lawful hunt, so just be careful. S.
  10. Congrats! That's a fine bull!! Any measurements? He's a big boy!! S.
  11. She's lookin' good Bob. Bring her up and we can get here started early. S.
  12. There are always jumbo's stacked up out of pefferlaw, you just have to find them! Let us know how you make out! S.
  13. An ice shack just isn't an ice shack without a wood stove S.
  14. I got a set installed by ecmilley. Great guy, good price, and we shot the bull while he did it. S.
  15. out west they call them the ribeye of the sky! S.
  16. Thats awesome! Nice catch for sure! Must have been a nice surprise!! S.
  17. This story sounds like it was just a freak, tragic accident. There is nothing that tells me the hunter was careless at all. He was taking a shot, and slipped. It could happen to anyone. Sad story, I hate reading these. They really make ya think! S.
  18. Am I understanding this right? You were bottom bouncing with a centerpin? One question....why? Nice job on the catching, but a spinning reel would be my choice for bottom bouncing. S.
  19. Yep, sandhills. Pretty neat eh? I've seen them a few times while duck hunting as well. Out west, you can hunt them, and apparently they are really good eating. I'd love to try one! Enough about the birds, how was the perchin?? S.
  20. Yep, totally normal for a cool fall day. Its exaust...its hotter than the air. Kinda like your breath when its cold. Nothing to worry about whatsoever! S.
  21. Say what Those ringers are quick little buggers though, so I know what you mean! Great hunt, Nick! Good stuff dude!! S.
  22. You don't need to do anything. Just run it like normal, and you'll be fine. S.
  23. Its not too common in NFLD......especially at this time of year!! I sure wish I was down there jigging up my quota!!!
  24. I haven't had an issue with the straps at all, Lew. I find they work great on everything from my hikers, to waders, to my great big size 14 baffins. Never had them come off, or become uncomfortable. They do add a substantial amount of extra weight to your boots, though. I've had mine for 4 or 5 seasons now with no issues at all, and I put lots of miles on them too. I wear them at work when its slick as well.
  25. Another vote for the HT ice sandals. They do work well, and are quite comfy. Maybe a little heavy, but they're effective for sure. I would tighten all the studs on a regular basis, or you will lose some. HT send me a new package of them for free though, so its all good S.
