  1. I did another batch last week. Finished almost 6l, and it was really dark too. My taps are still in, and I'm hoping for one more good collection for a boil this weekend. We'll see....buds haven't opened up yet, so here's hoping. S.
  2. This is why I don't have a bigger boat, and drive a truck! S.
  3. According to this site: http://www.pc.gc.ca/lhn-nhs/on/trentsevern/visit/ne-wl/trent_e.asp , Scugog is as high as its ever been, and the tri lakes are approaching record high levels. Sturgeon will be next. Are all the logs out of the dam in Lindsay? S.
  4. Rice lake is rising 8cm per day, and will continue to rise for quite a few days yet. I can only assume the homes/cottages thru campbellford/hastings will be flooded again. I remember a few years ago sandbagging over there for days. Lakefield is flowing full bore as well. S.
  5. That just makes too much sense. Canada would never consider that. Especially Ontario. S.
  6. Friggen wild eh? I filled up a few days ago....cost me $60. Filled last night....$78. Why do we allow this to happen? All I can do is bang my head. S.
  7. That's good news. Rice lake is under a flood watch right now. Hopefully the trent guys can keep it all under control, but they usually use the tri lakes to hold water back.....then sturg. I also hear flooding has started on the burnt river. Someone told me today 10ft higher than normal... S.
  8. How is the water level, Cliff? S.
  9. Good stuff TJ! Im hoping for another run here this week! I may catch up to last year if it runs good! S.
  10. Its all of us that are allowing this to happen. I think its high time we knock some heads. This is Bull! S.
  11. Just had a flood warning issued for rice lake too. Its coming folks. If you have property on the kawartha's, get ready. The water is gonna rise a lot over the next couple weeks, and I honestly don't have any faith in the guys controlling it all. S.
  12. Its not happening slowly. Try being a middle class single dad.... S.
  13. Thats my point. The otonabee is clearly ONLY a sanctuary from LOCK 19 to BENSFORT BRIDGE. Pretty clear, right? IF it said Otonabee River closed from Feb-april that would be a different story. The rest of the grey areas are grey for a reason. Understand what I'm saying? S.
  14. I have spots I smoke them THE DAY the ice is off, and others that need a few degrees to warm up. I will tell you though, the spots that happen first, are very isolated. What I mean is you could fish the whole canal and not catch a single fish or even get a bite unless you cast within a 6ft circle. Sneaky fish those crappies! S.
  15. Eastons What did you end up doing with your axle? S.
  16. Thats pretty clear if you ask me. Otonabee river between lock 19 and bensfort bridge. The intent of the regulation is to protect spawning walleye....right? The intent of a river being a sanctuary is to protect spawning fish, no? So, with that said, if only the main river is mentioned in the regs, that would lead ME to believe the whole watershed is a sanctuary to protect whatever fish are spawning. If those fish can run the tributaries, they would (read should) be closed to fishing as well. IN MY OPINION S.
  17. I'm tellin ya, a 7' med light spinning rod/reel. Perfect! I use a 7' ultra light clarus. Honest to gawd. P.S...its not your rod thats busting you off. A new lighter rod may help you some, but you need to snap a bunch off before you get the feel of the pin. It takes a bit. Before ya know it, you'll be running 2lb leaders with ease. The best thing for you to do is use what you have, and get good at it. A new rod will just start a new learning curve, and you haven't figured out the gear you already have. EXPERIENCE will outfish any rod/reel combo. Take the time to get as much as you can. S.
  18. A spring like this one is the worste kind for recruitment. Fish spawn during really high water, then the severn boys let the water go, and guess what....no walleye! ive watchedd it happen in all the kawartha lakes. The lakes are productive enough to rebound, but it takes years before we notice it. Anyone who fishes the tri lakes will agree the walleye fishing has sucked the last few years...wait a couple more years and it will be good again. Rice lake is a perfect example. 4-5 years ago, rice was practically void of walleyes. A few good years of recruitment ( due to proper water managment at TSW) and now the lake is one of the best walleye lakes going....likke it used to be. Just my opinion, based on experience. S.
  19. Ditto! I got your back Moxie! S.
  20. It may not make sense in tamagami, but it sure does in the kawarthas. S.
  21. Im not sold on the crappie thing. I think trent severn has more to do with missing year classes than crappies. Take out a wholw year class, or a few in a row, and you'll notice the difference in catch rates. Sure, crappies will have an impact, but they dont take out a whole year class....or two or three in a row! S.
  22. Except all the other kawartha lakes still have a few eyes left. S.
  23. Nah, my Dora rod only gets used on special occasions. I'd probably get robbed on the east tribs If I used it there LOL S.
  24. Actually, I don't miss it at all. Been there, done that.....long before the rest of the weekend warriors got the newsletter. S.
  25. Should get some sap flowing! S.
