  1. Good luck to ya! I can't offer any advice as I haven't been on the bog since hardwater season.
  2. Like Roy said, pick it up. If it seems really heavy, it's either nice hardwood (oak, etc) or it's wet. Also, sap, etc is a tell-tale that it's green.
  3. Farmer, Nice to see that you did well. We'll hook up one of these days and fish the Berg or head North and wheel into 'lake x'. Hey, it's a good thing your arms aren't any longer in a few of those pics! Just bustin your chops dude. Keep up the reports. Do you still have my gulp worms? - I have your reel and will continue to hold it hostage... Shoot me an email. Fishnfiend
  4. You should be changed from 'almost a guide' to 'acting captain'. Congratulations!
  5. ROTFLMAO! Thanks for the laugh guys.
  6. That's awesome! It would be way better to drive out like that than dragging 1500 lbs of dead weight.
  7. Welcome! I can appreciate the fact that you look forward to fishing up north, but you have some prime fishing right in your neighbourhood for MANY species.
  8. The majority of people do not canoe at night and therefore, lights would be unnecessary weight. Anchors are to be dealt with with respect in a canoe. Don't travel with a bunch of loose rope...you wouldn't want to get tangled in it and dragged to the bottom if/when you capsize.
  9. Go to CTC or another store and buy the clamp-on bow and stern lights. They run on batteries and can be removed for transporting your canoe. If I recall correctly, they are about $25-$30 each. Other than that, lifejackets, buoyant heaving line, whistle, bailer, paddles and an anchor should suffice.
  10. Nice report and beautiful pics. Thank you for sharing. I have the same fishfinder for remote trips and icefishing. It works very well for finding depth and schools of fish. The fish alarm sure can get annoying if you are not catching though.
  11. VERY NICE! I'm sure that you guys will have many, many years of enjoyment and memories in your new boat. It appears as though the whole family will. Congratulations!
  12. Yep, the Grand river (Dunnville or Caledonia) are good spots to fish from shore. You never know what you are going to catch there. It's only about an hour's drive from your location.
  13. It does exist and is a very small lake. It contains all of this fish mentioned and the comment about a mini dalrymple was bang-on as the two are connected via rivers. There may or may not be a boat launch at the community centre/library. The east end is very shallow (as indicated by the swamp/cattails. The west end has some dropoffs. I'd stick with Head lake unless you want a boat ride on a new body of water. There is another launch on the lake...pm if u want the details.
  14. Very nice Brian. The white tubes work for smallies as well as lakers?
  15. Go to a sporting goods store or ctc and buy the scent eliminating wash for hunters. There are many different products. Get some of the soap/shampoo as step number 1. Then, buy a container of the spray and spray your entire trunk after it has dried from the wash/shampoo. Hunters Specialties or Dead down wind are great, but even the 'no-name' stuff from ctc should work. I believe it is called eradicator. Try it - you won't be sorry. I use these products all fall beacuse I bowhunt for whitetails. If I told you that I have had deer step over my legs (while sitting on the ground) would you believe it works?
  16. Nice report Brian. That must have taken a while.. Enjoy the smallies on Simcoe and we expect pictures!
  17. And what will it do to the fishing - o great forecasting one?
  18. If you are catching fish and it's intact - why change it? You can always squirt scent inside it periodically. If it still doesn't work, then switch it.
  19. Ignorance of the regulations. "Oh, really? I didn't know" - when questioned about an out of season catch or over limit fish. Morons who don't know stream etiquette, but insist on fishing next to you on opening day of trout season. If it's only your first or second time fishing - that's the wrong day to go. Anyone who questions what I keep. I love the outdoors and respect the fish/game that I pursue. If I decide to keep something, you'd better believe there's a good reason. And just about everything mentioned previously. Ok, now I'm fired up. Gotta go for a smoke....
  20. so, $0.97 is a good deal? Let's get excited when it gets down below $0.80. I filled up on the way in this morning, too. Every cent equals a dollar for me, so I capitalize whenever I can.
  21. Entertaining if nothing else....
  22. There's a product that you buy in a tube...it's kinda like putty. You take it out of the tube, blend it and apply it and in about an hour, you can put it back in the water. The stuff is grindable and paintable. If I were you I'd try to fix your boat before you scrap it.
