  1. Unbelievable! We were heading back from Winchester near Ottawa after completing a Bass Talk seminar session and it was brutal! There were cars, trucks, vans and transport trailers spewed all over the 401 & it's ditches. At Kingston they even pulled the plows off the roads and we saw why shortly as there was one in the ditch! Still with these conditions there were rigs just blowing our doors off going at 100-110kmp when we were barely doing 60kpm. Even the jack-knifed & rolled over rigs didn't deter these morons! We eventually pulled the chute in Belleville and grabbed a motel room as it had already taken us 4.5 hours to get that far! Hopefully this is the last of the big storms... Dave
  2. I will be in the Daiwa booth on Wed. & Thurs. I will also be in the Lakeport-WFN "HOT SEAT" at 3:40PM on Wed. Look forward to seeing anyone who might drop in! Cheers, Dave
  3. Congratulations Maureen! I hate commuting, the only place that I want to commute to is the lake to go fishing! Cheers, Dave
  4. Bass Marley, if you happen to accidentally catch a bass out of season while legally pursuing another species that is in season then you just release it quickly and you're fine. If you happen upon an area where there are all kinds of spawning bass then you are best to leave because targeting bass out of season is kind of a discretionary call on the CO's part. In other words if you happen to catch one and let it go no problem but if you catch several and stay then a CO may interpret that as targeting bass out of season. Now if you go to New York, they do have a year long C&R season for bass now! Hope that this clear! Cheers, Dave
  5. It depends also on what presentation that you are using whether you should have a fluoro-carbon leader or not. Slower finesse presentation in gin-clear water is definitely a situation for it. As for the Fireline, it is more sensitive, thinner, better on hook sets and cast further. You also shouldn't be filling up your whole spool with Fireline, put a mono backing on and then about 50-75 yds. of Fireline. It also last longer than mono, it doesn't deteriorate as quickly. Fluoro-carbon is also super tough as a leader, it is very abbrasion-resistant. For all you Stealth lovers out there, you have the SpiderWire UltraCast. I started using it last year and I was blown away by how much better it was than Stealth. And I love the Stealth, mind you the Ultracast is more expensive. I'm looking forward to trying the Invisa-Braid in the Ultra-Cast this year. Cheers, Dave
  6. Hi Pam, How have you been keeping? A 40/50HP 4 stroke should be able to troll down no problem. You really don't want to under-power your boat too much. Of course I would recommend a Yamaha Cheers, Dave
  7. I have collected and delivered fish to BPS. I was required to have a special permit from the MNR in order to do this. BPS applied for it for us. Cheers, Dave
  8. I'll be hanging around the Big Brothers/Big Sisters "Catch A Dream!' Kids Fishing Derby booth! In you are attending , please drop by and say hi! Cheers, Dave
  9. Sorry, Brkygetr I know that this won't help you in Fort Frances but Headhunter, if you're looking for someone who really knows GM/Chevy trucks contact Charles Ho. He has a little shop called C.H. Motor in the Midland & Finch area. He looks after my Avalanche, knows his stuff and is very reasonable. A honest fair mechanic go figure! His number is 416-291-3095 tell him that I sent you! Cheers, Dave
  10. Congratulations, Brandon! You gotta love it out west! How are you doing otherwise! Nice shot of the Ranger as well, it's Edmund Wong and I'm sure that he's fine with it! Cheers, Dave
  11. That was great, definitely brings back memories! Dave
  12. As far as I'm concerned Ed is top-drawer! Everyone in the Ottawa area speak so highly of him. I'm sure that Ed will have some great specials on during Bass Talk! I'll also be up at the Ottawa Sportsman Show doing a few seminars, if anyone is around stop by and say hi! I'll also have registration forms with me so you can sign up with me at the Ottawa Sportsman Show! Cheers, Dave
  13. We'll look forward to meeting you if you can make it! Cheers, Dave
  14. I've had to do twice to myself on the water, had someone else do it for me(because it was in the back of my head) and had to do it to someone else! Didn't have the luxury of the ice or pain killer. LOL Never fun but you chose the right method! It's actually easier when someone else is pushing it through, when you have to do it yourself, you know when you're going to push! Heal quick! Cheers, Dave
  15. That is absolutely awesome! She is a fishing goddess, so cool & calm! I really miss fishing with my niece as she lives in Ottawa but that definitely brings back memories! Cheers, Dave
  16. Solid choice! Great cause! We fully support the Canadian Cancer Society through Dave Mercer's "Casting for a Cure!" campaign! We've all lost friends & family to that dreadful disease so hopefully together we can lick it! Dave

  18. Hi Scott, This is in response to your question on the rain suit thread. I didn't want to take that thread off it's topic. Yes, we'll be in Ottawa at Paddletales on Sat. March 8th. You can still get in the early bird draw for the Shimano Gore-Tex Rain Suit. Go to www.basstalk.ca for full info and a registration form. Let me know if there is anything else that I can answer for you. Cheers, Dave

Thanks Mark & Bob, you know that the feeling is mutual! Dave
  20. I've had the Cabela's Guide Wear, BPS 100 MPH & Pro Qualifier Rain Suits and they've all been great! I think as long as you buy a quality(translation expensive) rain suit you'll do fine. I've heard real good thing about the Shimano Gore-Tex Rain Suit, everyone who has one seems to love them. We are giving one away as an early bird bird prize at the Bass talk session being held at Paddletales just outside of Ottawa. If you were considering attending maybe you should wait on that purchase get your registration in before the early bird and win that $450.00 Rain Suit! That would be sweet! Dave

  22. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Karl Kalonka and the other members of Team-X from Extreme Angler TV. I really relished the opportunity to work with this group of true professionals. I enjoyed the 2007 filming season immensely. This last year has been a year of change for my family and I. Recently, I have decided to pursue a career change and in order to chase that dream properly I unfortunately must resign as a member of Team-X. I have seen some previews of Extreme Angler TV shows for the 2008 television season and I’m positive that all will be impressed. I hope that everyone enjoys the work that I did with EATV last season. I wish Karl, Mark, Bob & Dave absolutely nothing but success in the future! The foundation is there and strong. I’m sure that our paths will cross once again and I look forward to it. “It was a pleasure working with Dave this past season”, stated Extreme Angler TV show host Karl Kalonka. His passion and commitment to the great outdoors and fishing is second to none. I’m sure our viewers will enjoy the high-energy segments Dave was able to film this past season, not to mention the really big bass we caught on camera! On behalf of me and the rest of the Team-X members we wish Dave nothing but the best of luck and success in his new venture and our door will always be open to Dave Chong. Fish Hard! Dream Big! David Chong Extreme Angler Media Inc. Karl Kalonka
  23. Have had it happen many a time! It's almost a given on Lake St. Clair! Cheers, Dave
  24. Brian, he actually tried that LOL we had to reel him in a bit! It was a fun day especially with it snowing outside all day long! Dave
  25. It seems like you got the right advice! Been using Ram mounts for probablt 15 years now between the photography and fishing sides. They've been solid for me but as others have warned you, don't get the little ball! Good luck! Dave
