  1. My batteries are always put on charge as soon as it gets parked. The beauty of having a 4 bank on board charger!
  2. Not exactly what I was targeting but fun to catch regardless! Walleye population is nice & healthy on the St. Lawrence River! They love those Z-Man Diesel MinnowZ!
  3. WOW, I could write a novel about this but I'll try to keep it direct to the point! Tournaments are not perfectly but most strive to do the best that they can as far as fish care is concerned as do tournament anglers. I have fished quite a few tournaments over the years and the vast majority of them are very well run and live release rate is very high. I really do hope that this is blimp that happened for a wide variety of reasons that I am not 100% privy to because I was not there. I have talked to many who were but will not pass on those comments as things can get twisted very quickly! I just returned from the Thousand Islands Open and were there a few fish lost? Yes, but Dr. Bruce Tufts and his students from Queens University were there to help with the fish care. The fish that did expire were kept for research purposes at Tuft's lab. The limits at this tournament was reduced to 4 fish this year in order to put less fish at risk. No one cares about this fishery than the anglers themselves. If you were to inspect the boats at this event, I can guarantee you that the anglers did everything possible to keep their fish alive. They have the properly functioning live wells, outfitted with additional aerators, Oxygenators, foam covers and bilge pumps with hoses to obtain water from beneath the surface. They carry loads of ice and additives like G-Juice, they are all well versed in fizzing fish when they suffer from barotrauma. All this being said, the B1 event is definitely not the norm especially on the Canadian side of the border! But this will bring more attention to proper fish care and higher standards that all tournament organizations should be held to! BTW anybody who fishes bass deep on larger bodies on water should know how to fizz a bass, this is probably one of the best videos demonstrating this procedure:
  4. Beautiful Laker! Love the colours!
  5. Looks like you guys had a great time! Nice variety of different fish species as well! Nipissing is a great body of water, don't get to fish it often enough!
  6. Beautiful lake where rocks seem to grow overnight! LOL Today's Navionics charts are pretty good, although I have fished it hundreds of times I wouldn't go there without a Navionics chip in my unit! Smallmouth & Largemouth Bass fishing is pretty decent, lots of small Smallies! Walleye fishing is okay too but make sure that you'are aware of the slot! Good population of Muskies as well! Endless islands and rock points to fish, I like rock weed transitions where you can almost catch anything! Good luck!
  7. There are a fair number of decent urban fishing locations in the GTA! Check out the Toronto Fishing Ambassadors' website, www.torontourbanfishingambassador.com they also host a couple of family fishing days which unfortunately has already occurred this year. Balsam Lake is a good lake for Smallmouth & Largemouth Bass, Walleye, Northern Pike, Muskies and Panfish. Great advice from Garnet about Balsam Lake! Wacky rigged Senkos definitely catch fish but there's nothing wrong with a float & live bait, I believe that you're just not around fish. Finding fish is the key! a good pair of polarized glasses will help you spot fish and see fish holding structure!
  8. Yes, confirmed that the Garmin remote does float, but I’d wear a lanyard anyway!???
  9. On Big Rideau last weekend we had surface temps as high as 84-85 degrees! Fishing was tough!
  10. Well, here are the other combatants in the "Trolling Motor Wars" and the differences: Garmin Force: Much sleeker in appearance - Wireless Foot Pedal which has a tension adjustment that makes it feel like a cable drive trolling motor - Wireless integration with Garmin electronics - Available in 50" & 57" models - Cool remote control included, you can direct the trolling motor just by pointing to where you want it to go! - Brushless motor extremely quiet and efficient - lots more MotorGuide (Not really sure of their name) : Sadly very unappealing in appearance and I couldn't talk to anybody about it's features BTW, the Garmin Force trolling motor did win the Best Boating Accessory category in the NEW Product Showcase!
  11. Sad to hear about your issues with your MotorGuide! Every company is different when it comes to dealing with just out of warranty products, I would have like to have seen them offer you something.
  12. This article has been brought to my attention, firstly I do not live in Durham(Not that there is anything wrong with that! LOL) and secondly anybody who knows me also knows that I don't drink (Alcohol, that is!) Oh and plus I have not been on Sturgeon or Scugog yet this year! Great to see them out there trying to keep our waterways safe! I am a huge advocate of boating safety!
  13. Great report! Awesome "Cuda", love the Bass Thumb and nice "BUG"! Keep on hammering them!
  14. The Brecknell scales that Major League Fishing uses are the best for accuracy but they're not waterproof and are fairly expensive. The Rapala seems pretty decent and will do the job. Chantillions are great but are not cheap either! Accu-Cull also has a pretty good digital scale!
  15. As for the original question, a flipping jig would be my first choice and other options that I like would be a Chatterbait or large Swimbait! Then throw it to where the BIG Girls live which is usually the thickest cover available!
  16. The Mark Mckeown Memorial Perch Tournament takes place every April on Lake Simcoe, artificial baits only!
  17. Oh, there's was not a chance that any of them are going to be inexpensive! LOL
  18. I was able to test drive the new Lowrance Ghost today and it was very impressive! Quiet, powerful, responsive and packed filled of features! Of course it is designed to be integrated with Lowrance electronics but you can program keys to control your Power Pole or mark waypoints etc. I will report more when I see the Garmin unit!
  19. I too have seen cabin cruisers either swamp smaller boats but still crazy doing what he did! Would be curious as to see what set him off, of course the fact that he was out in a boat drunk begs another question!
  20. Some pros are now running 16" units but many have 4 12" units, 2 at the driver's console and 2 at the bow of the boat! I know that as our eyes age the bigger screens are helpful! LOL
