Pretty sure it was a school of herring!

Got one on order but haven't received it yet! LOL

With all the uncertainty in the world today, I decided on some self-imposed ice-solation, trying to get another crack at Lake Simcoe before ice-out! The ice was still in good shape 15'-16", even the shoreline although I'm sure that it will deteriorate quickly! My ice-solation day was spent with a friend and his son plus another friend and his two step sons. The weather was excellent, at least until the wind picked up at the end of the day! We caught enough nice fish for a couple of meals and the kids had a great time! Not sure how many more days on frozen lake Simcoe are left, might try to sneak out for another ice-solation day! Be careful out there, watch the shoreline ice!

David Chong replied to KawarthaAngler's topic in General Discussion
Hopefully, we'll have a better grasp on this by then! Only time will tell! -
This annual event starts this Friday, anyone planning on going? If so please drop by the "EVERYTHING you wanted to know about FISHING but were afraid 2 ask..." exhibit which will be located right at the main entrance! Check out this new educational showcase, would love your feedback and in return, if you mention this board, I'll give you a nice prize! There will also be some great FREE seminars to catch as well while you're there! Hope to see you all there!

New proposed Bass Season Regulation FMZ 20
David Chong replied to Reef Runner's topic in General Discussion
It definitely is a interesting proposal and I do believe that Dr. Bruce Tufts from Queens University is behind this proposal. If anybody understands the fish out there he does. His lab has been studying the bass in the St. Lawrence & Lake Ontario for years now. I would defer to his expertise> I know that many would like to see a streamlining of the Ontario Fishing Rules & Regulations but with the diversity of different regions, I'm not sure that it is possible! -
Some nice old lures that you have there! Welcome to the board, lots of knowledgeable anglers here! I don't get up that way very often but I'm sure that someone will have some good advice for you!

Hamilton Boat and Fishing Show impressions
David Chong replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
Didn't get out there this year but I was there last year and it's a nice little show! Same as the other's that this company puts on the London & Barrie shows as well! -
What a great day for the last edition of the Perchin' For MS event today! It was cold but sunny and the wind wasn't nearly as bad as they called for plus the fishing was pretty good! Some great weights brought it by the top ten teams. My partner, Al Russell & I were lucky enough to win "Big Fish" of the event, unfortunately we were a fish shy of a limit, leaving us in the also-ran division! LOL The Jumbo weighed in a 1.765 lbs. came on a Jigging Rap and set an event record for "Big Fish"! Slab Grabbers also played a key role in our bag. Great event that raised a lot of money to help people suffering from MS and research but Doug Poirier the creator and organizer of this event announced that this would be the last year for this event. His deteriorating health for MS makes it difficult for him to continue running it, hopefully someone picks up the reins. Kudos for Doug and all his volunteers for hosting a phenomenal event. Congrats to everyone in the top 10, I didn't get a list son you can check www.perchinforms.com for them later, of course there were the usual suspects up there!

Yes, they are chowing down on those!
-
It was new this year, so I'm not sure any retailers got them in but they'll be readily available for next season!
-
I happen to decide on a Milwaukee which are pricey but you can do the small with a less expensive drill and the E-Drill I do believe should retail up here under $200 CAD. And I don't miss the gas smell either! LOL
-
I've had my HT E-Drill setup out on the ice for about 6 trips and am thoroughly impressed, not really sure why anyone would deal with gas augers anymore. I've drilled up to 60 holes on a trip and still had half the charge on my battery. I have it attached to Milwaukee Fuel 18 Hammer Drill on a Clam Auger Plate. You can use it without the auger plate as it does come with a handle as well but I really like the feel and grip that I get with the plate. I have a 9Ah Lithium battery that I use with it and haven't been able to drain it yet. This past Mon. we were drilling through 16-18" with no effort whatsoever. Check out the first on-ice test of it!
-
Yes, there are multiple line ties and hook positions! Check out this videos of it!

It was on Mon. before this nasty stuff!!! Just too busy to get things posted right away! LOL

Finally got out for some Whitie action, saw quite a few on the Garmin unit and few co-operated! The ones that did bite on a Meegs(Surprise) and the NEW Freedom Blade Bait! When we moved into shallow water (28FOW) for some perch, I lost a Whitefish that was probably close to double digits on a Slab Grabber. Interestingly enough and maybe we can get some feedback from other Simcoe ice anglers, every fish we caught had no fin clips so I'm assuming that they're naturals! Fought it for a long time on 4 lbs. test and of course lost her right at the hole! LOL Got to test out my NEW Striker Climate Suit and I love it, very comfortable, warm and lots of practical features plus the security of the flotation. If anyone is looking for a new Floater Suit I would definitely recommend this brand! Gonna do a video on it shortly, will post it when it's done.

That's very sad, hopefully they had enough insurance to rebuild soon!
-
Again I've only been in one as a passenger and I thought it was pretty tolerable but that was on some pretty smooth ice so I can't vouch for other terrain. Look forward to your report after trying one out!
-
I have actually seen a photo of a 17 1/4" perch from Simcoe unfortunately they didn't weigh it, instead it was eaten. Would have been interesting.

My thoughts exactly!

Little Buddy Heater on a 5 lbs. propane tank.
David Chong replied to squirrel761's topic in General Discussion
Should work great in an insulated Otter! I was in a 4 man model last weekend with a regular Buddy Heater on a 5 lbs. Tank and you could crank it up like a sauna in there! LOL -
It was a very busy show! There were great crowds for the seminars and Troy Landry was a hoot! Fun times!
-
Not sure if anyone made it out to the Barrie Boat, Fishing & Outdoor Show yesterday, but I’m heading up now! I’ll be presenting seminars at 11 AM & 5 PM today! I hope to see lots of folks out! There wI’ll be some other great seminars & exhibits as well, including Troy Landry from Swamp People! Choot’em!
