Invasive species like the Round Goby are like a double edge sword. On a positive side, their abundance obviously provides what seems like an endless food source for bass, pike, perch whitefish etc. But their predation on the eggs and nests of these same species is a negative but I think it will be years before we understand the true impact that an invasive species like the Round Goby will have on a body water like Lake Simcoe. In the meantime it does appear that the Smallies are getting fatter & heavier...

Depended on the year and the engine, I put on a fair number of hours per season. the most I've put on an engine in a season was 185 hrs. and the most that I've put on a single engine over a four years was 650 hrs. I also know most of the people who had purchased my boats & engine and the only one that ever blew up was an Evinrude from 2004!

As Garnet stated the Balsam slot was there prior to the rest of the Kawartha's and is like a reverse slot. Confusing to say the least but streamlining the regs is not a priority for the MNR!

Until my summers got filled up with tournaments, we used to make at least one trip north and did try a bunch of smaller bodies of water. I used to cartop a Coleman Crawdad back in those days and could launch it anywhere I could launch a canoe! We had some good days for numbers but never ever did find anything with giants in it!

My only experience with four strokes is with the Yamaha's that I've had over the years and I truly believe that they are the most reliable outboard available currently. That by far is the most important thing to me. knowing that I'm getting back!

The pelvic fins are the easy way to tell the difference between a Sculpin & a Goby! The Goby's are fused together and a Sculpin's are separate! Look at it's underside and you'll know!

A little later season than normal so not really surprising! Rice Lake had a little dry spell but seem to be firing all cylinders right now!

Grenadier Pond in High Park & Catfish Pond located to the west of it were my favourite haunts growing up in the west end of Toronto. Great spots although the so-called "Friends of High Park" have managed to limit the fishing access on Grenadier Pond! In Grenadier Pond there are Sunfish, Yellow Perch, Black Crappies, Common Carp, Brown Bullheads, Northern Pike & Largemouth Bass! In Catfish Pond, there are Sunfish, Brown Bullheads, Largemouth Bass, Common Carp, Mirror Carp & Wild Goldfish. Good luck!

Some good does come out of these crazy times! I managed to get back to something that I have not done for probably decades and that was to fish out of a canoe! A truly peaceful and serene day on the water, at least it was until the fish started to bite! As much as the roar of Yamaha 250 excite me, there is definitely something to be said about stealthily paddling around in a canoe. It was a memorable day with some beautiful fish and great company with good friend, Wil Wegman. BTW never mind the delicious fish afterwards!

In my youth I worked at the Outdoor Stores in the old Birk's store at Yonge & Temperance! Fun times and great stores! Yup as soon as Collegiate bought them it went downhill but I was no longer there after that! LOL

Looks like their restructuring is going to involve the closing of their 4 Sportium stores in Quebec which has always been a burden from the moment they bought them! Also they will be closing the Vaughan and Etobicoke locations in Ontario leaving them with 4 locations in Ontario & 8 in Quebec! Hopefully this will allow them to focus on their profitable locations and continue on!

Sad to see but hopefully whatever their restructuring plans are work! Competition is good for the consumer! Fingers crossed that they make it!
