Been a couple very busy weeks getting my new ice grubs done for the up coming ice season . Between all the river rat requests that keep coming in, I was able to finish the last lot of 7, and even did one batch of jigs . These are 7/32 tungsten beads ( tungsten is getting pretty expensive these days ) but I still manage to keep my prices fisher people friendly. Very pleased how they turned out . I have lots of misfit ones on the side lines, as I only produced the ones I was happy with . Nothing wrong with seconds, just not to my standards to please the end buyer . Anyhoo This is my end results .

Hi all, spent the morning checking ice and was satisfied it was safe to get the sled out. Just drove a short way around the corner of our bay to a deep crappie hole, was pretty constant bite, mostly small though.

Hi All, Took a drive down the road trying to find some ice i feel comfortable on. I found 5" inches yesterday on Eagle Lake , but it was near current so today I opted for a lake that usually freezes up quick but is pretty poor fishing through the ice. There was 8" inches of solid black ice and even a few small walleye to reward my efforts. It was -16℃ with winds gusting to 40kmh....COLD!

Hi all, Daytime temps were above freezing yesterday(just) so headed down to the shore for a couple casts, actually did really good for walleye too but they didn't bite until practically dark and the camera doesn't do well in low light. Had 4 or five follows and landed two decent pike while casting...all good....but come on ICE! Before our 'warm up' on Saturday the river, where there is current, had a decent skim and we have double digit minus ℃ for the next week...not long now!

My spoiled girl Bailey. Great at home and in the field. Loves being on the boat too!

Hi all, Went down to the bridge this evening. I checked the ice there on thursday and there was 5", was pretty confident that with the cold temps we've been getting it would be safe to venture out today, I know lots of you fish on way less than 5" but there is current at this spot and my comfort zone is at least 6" at this spot. I found 6" to 8" ( 2 inch difference less than 5 feet apart in some places) and drilled a grid to sit in the middle and chase fish on the 'ole Active Target. Could have saved myself some effort as most of the fish came out of the one hole, but it only took 15minutes to drilll and set up, so what the heck. I fished for maybe an hour and a half and got some good eater size walleye which went back to fight the good fight another day.

Angel, she, was very well behaved. Got along with cats dogs and people. Never a concern. As can been seen in this pic, she just stood there watching the black mink. The Malinois I have now, tan color with a black face, she would be going nuts wanting a piece of it. I have bird feeders in the back yard and April, the latest Mal, just goes nuts chasing the squirrels. She almost got one, once. But thankfully it got away.

Done..... Well not quite yet done, rivets are in, decorative center piece is in and the handle needs oiling. I need to hit my local gun shop for more Tru Oil, mine dried up. I'm thinking a little more fine hand filing on the rivet heads. I also got the handle for the second knife glued up and the cork for another rod handle. Time to chill.

So after reading your post Smitty I went to the shop, read the operating manual and used two of the spindles, no issues at all. My guess is that the comments made in the review of the sander failed to read the manual and note that the sanding sleeves seat on a soft rubber core that needs to be compressed with the appropriate size washers (provided) and tightened down to expand the rubber core. Exactly as it is with the small Dremel sanding drums. I used it for a few hours this afternoon and thus far, I am happy with the purchase. This was today's work on the new sander. Next up, Tru Oil finish the wood and then set the two rivets and the decorative center piece.

It sounds like you are purchasing your supplies from US resellers/ wholesalers, hence the tariffs. Have you explored buying directly from the source country or a third party country like the UK ? Although, the US puts high tariffs on imported goods, Canada has dropped most of the reciprocal tariffs. If you can circumvent the goods going through the US, it should reduce your landed cost. Great looking jigs, and all the best with your enterprise. The Crappie jigs I bought from you have been killer !

Four inches of good ice is LOTS to walk on! Ask the lunatics around Owen Sound who go out on an inch and a half...........or used to when I lived down that way..... Every year when you post your first ice post, I envy you! No doubt we will soon be seeing some shots of walleye and crappies coming up through the ice... Doug

Uggg....it didn't work out as I hoped. I winterized the boat a couple days ago when I saw this weather coming. At least I did get out 2 more times after my original message, and we caught fish each time. Good to close the season without getting skunked the last time out. Having said that....I do have friends who keep their boat in a heated shop so who knows, might get out with them (and maybe get skunked anyways)

I'm sure there are battery shops out there that can refurbish the old one with new batteries.

Born in Bowmansville at that time it was a beautiful small town. Now it's a suburb of Toronto. We loved to go down King street and buy comic books, cadbury chocolates and ice cream. We loved the place. My grandmother lived next to the Shea's, a prominent area farmer. We'd catch lampreys they were a big problem back then and throw up on shore to die, nasty darn things. Currently I live in the US. My dad would take us to Rice, Scugog and other Kawartha lakes. Didn't have to go as far back then. Does any else remeber the "furry trout mounted" at the bait shop in Bobcaygeon. My annual trip to Canada is the highlight of the year. Got to drive a bit further for the fishing now, but the scenery is gorgeous all the way after North Bay. I've been out west , Florida, France, Germany, Mexico: Canada blows them all away. As for the media lots of Bull, I just wish they'd just stop lying. This is me at 11, in 1970 with my 1st big pickerel, I believe it was caught on Pigeon Lake.

Wish I had some turkey left in the freezer, you guys are making me salivate. I'll have to wait until spring. One thing I do with wild turkey, regardless if I'm doing schnitzel, sauteing, smoking or roasting, is to brine it first. Overnight in the fridge in 2 litres of water with 1/2 a cup of Kosher salt. Makes it tender, plump and juicey.

I had planned on a flour, egg wash and Panko coating Doug, then drop them into the Tallow filled deep fryer but as I was prepping them I realized I had no Panko in the house. Since the Rice was already cooked I just dredged them in seasoned flour and pan fried them. My buddy gave me several breasts so I will have opportunity to do a Schintzel version and hopefully a pounded flat and rolled stuffed version, bacon wrapped and smoked version such as this one I did a few years back.

Looks delicious! I think the marinade you used is a good idea; I have done them in thin strips and into a teriyaki marinade overnight, then BBQed. But yours look better! My favourite new recipe for wild turkey breasts is to do them as schnitzels. Cut them lengthwise into about 4 pieces, pound them flat, dredge in seasoned flour, then egg wash, then panko crumbs and pan-fry. This was SUPPOSED to be one of our deer camp meals last week, but we basically got behind in our menu and never cooked that meal. More for me when I do cook it! Doug

I've sold my boat, bought a 10 footer to strap on my ATV. Going back to my grass roots and hitting the back lakes I've discovered in my late teens/early 20's. I've spent most of September in Wawa to Chapleau this year.

Born 1950 , the banana seat bikes and that sort of thing were after my youth, I inherited my great uncle's single shot Winchester 67 .22 at 14 , no FAC's or PAL's in those days and the local hardware store didn't have a problem selling a box of .22 short hollowpoints to a kid to pot vermin like crows and groundhogs, think shorts were 40 cents for 50 , longs 45 and long rifles were 50 cents, yeah it was a different time
