  1. So we are quite a best west of Cochrane. We fly in out of Nakina. Last season (our first as new owners) we did not open until the end of August. We had 2 weeks of fishing and then our hunting season. This season we are open for business and taking bookings. With the border closed and many others reluctant to spend money in uncertain times our bookings are not where we would like them. We are offering a money back guarantee for this spring for our resident guests to assist in people feeling more comfortable booking. Our fishing is usually a good mix of residents and non residents. We are here for the long term and will make the best of a poor situation. Again we wish the best to everyone this season. Adam

  2. Hi Adam: We are kinda new also, but this group is pretty good and considerate. There advertising is pretty reasonable but we just weren't aware that we are not suppose to advertise on here. But totally understand, I was in touch with TJ and all's good he is willing to work with us. Might be worth our while to work with him. All the best for you and your new adventure, in normal times it is the only place to be and in these times even more so, we just have to make those aware of what an Northern Ontario Adventure is worth. Thanks and contact Tj this group is a good one.

  3. We are a fly in only outfitter in Northern Ontario. Located in the Attawapiskat River area. Now known as Gray Wood Outfitters, we were previously Eddie North Adventures. I appreciate your post and concern for outfitters, it is nice to hear. We feel for all the outfitters across the country, and many other professions, and businesses that have been hurt during these times. Not looking for sympathy in any way but we do have openings this season and would love an opportunity to showcase what we have to offer. Our fishing and hunting area is incredible, and we have invested a lot into renovations and new equipment in our camps. All the best to you all during this upcoming season, and I appreciate the community approach to helping businesses. Adam (Owner) www.graywoodoutfitters.com *if this violates your advertising policy please let me know how I can change the post. (new to the forum)

  4. Probably 1/4 truth being told now IF that. What was this years (2020/2021 FLU season) death rate for the FLU? Right? none we hear about... It's all how the media and others spin it. Delete this if I crossed a line.

  5. This is the safe approach. I’ve been at news events and when I’ve read the reporting afterward it was laughable. There is no credible media these days. No matter what side of the table you sit on.

  6. Pretty much how the media works today Harley Biker A Harley biker is riding by the zoo in Louisiana when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion's cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents. The biker jumps off his Harley, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch. Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly. A reporter has watched the whole event. The reporter addressing the Harley rider says, 'Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I've seen a man do in my whole life.' The Harley rider replies, 'Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger and acted as I felt right.' The reporter says, 'Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a journalist, and tomorrow's paper will have this story on the front page...So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have?' The biker replies, 'I'm a U.S. Marine and a Republican.' The journalist leaves. The following morning the biker buys the paper to see news of his actions, and reads, on the front page: U.S. MARINE ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH That pretty much sums up the media's approach to the news these days

  7. Love hearing from the owners. Keep those post coming. I look at each one. From considering a possible trip we are now going for sure and will book when we get our vaccination appointments. I'd like to get to at least Thunder bay and can see us staying at a 1/2 dozen places.

  9. There was no official flu season in 2020/2021, because the case counts remained below the threshold required to declare the start of one: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/flu-influenza/influenza-surveillance/weekly-influenza-reports.html

  11. No offence taken we do have very good advertising rates and would welcome you to discuss them with TJQ He has a few avenues that I am sure could help you increase your business as well as support this site. Good luck and hopefully we can get back to a more normal world this year and fish. Art

  13. Actually when the flyers come weekly from the grocers, they have the price per pound in large bold type and the metric in fine print. Most stuff is still packaged in pounds but they call it 454 grams now. The best is the frozen burgers from Costco, you can get 1/4 , 1/3 and 1/2 pound burgers but the total weight of the package is metric. Really it is a hybrid system even after 30 years, kind of like the forums here, everyone seems to do the temperature and weather in metric , but still catch 4 pound, 20 inch Bass on a 7 foot rod using 10 pound test in 15 feet of water from a 14 foot tinner

  14. Ain't that the damned truth. Sometimes for grins I will watch CNN, Fox and MSnbc for coverage on the same event and it is all over the board.

  15. Got it patched up. took a belt sander to some wine corks and got a jar of dust. Mixed wood glue in and over two days layered it up. It took a few layers because the hole was so deep and the glue would inevitably shrink or want to run. I do wish the colour was more bang on, but I can’t complain considering how bad it was prior. the feel is pretty spot on after sanding. Definitely wouldn’t notice it while fishing. I hope the glue holds up to wet hands and rain

  16. Cork dust and glue will do the trick. While Crazy Glue will work it is harder to sand, standard wood glue is easier to work with.

  17. Oh haha this mouse deal happened last fall. The boats in the garage now. The rods are always in my rod locker but I had a crew of mice move into the boat and start terrorizing everything last October. The rods are pulled out because I’m installing panoptix and working in the rod locker. ive actually got two rod racks that I’ve been waiting to put in my “fishing room” in the basement but I’m still slowly clearing out my old man’s engineering papers that he’s collected in boxes over the past 50 years lol. The guys legitimately had 57 full sized file folder style boxes of paper in that room. I’m about half way done clearing them out. I fill up my truck every time I go north, it’s wild!

  18. It seems to be very difficult to actually get news. What we get instead of news is someone's opinion about an event. Walter Cronkite is turning over in his grave.

  19. John, in the last four years, we have seen it all. Stoke the fire and people will gather and listen to stories. What happened to the time when you could put a dime in tray and take paper and that dime would not be touched. Today they take the box! Times are changing. there is no care for your neighbour’s well being. The decisions will affect is all in the future. I was an avid news watcher, but today it’s only ONE story. Hour after hour. Gave it up. Hopefully our future will look brighter. A
