  2. As the open water season draws to a close and I reflect on this past season, MAN was it crazy! Not really sure what the new normal will be but I just want to get back to some kind of normal! that being said, sorry that I've been MIA for a good part of the summer. That being said our lakes and waterways seem to be busier than ever before with many new anglers drawn to our sport during these COVID times! Hopefully these newcomers will take the time to understand what it takes to be a responsible anglers, understanding MNR rules & regs., respecting the properties of others, etc. We will try to address as many of these things in on-line content as the ice season approaches! That being said, still managed to catch plenty of great fish! See below some fish porn from this past open water season! Will still get in a number of fun fishing outings before ice-up and looking forward to the up coming ice season! I hope that everyone has had a great summer and is staying safe & keeping well! It'll be ice fishing season in no time!

  3. Hey OFC . Used to be active on this board about 13 years ago. Never really left but had been lurking for a longtime . The worst kind of member! Life went sideways and addiction got the best of me. Been clean for over 4 years now and busy fixing the 3 ringed circus that was my life. Finally figured it’s time to get back at er now that 2 of my boys are in university and it’s just the weeun at home. Reconnected with my old buddy Meeps and he got the musky fever back in my life . Been losing more big girls than I’ve landed , which is frustrating but I’m still on em and consumed with the thought of a 50” plus. Still early in the fall and lots of trips planned , I think I’ll get that 50” in the net soon! Pictured is a nice fish I got after losing 2 that day, Meeps was quick in the water and did the net work for me, held her up quick while I snapped a pic and back in the drink she went. Musky fishing is some sort of psychological mind F@(£ , from watching videos and trips to the local shop, online orders , countless hours on the water throwing lures as big as my dog and all around being consumed by these fish, I think I got the bug bad. The wee man has really caught the fishing bug and has been on me to catch his first Salmon , we’ve been down to our local spot a bunch and he just hasn’t tied into one yet. This morning while he and his buds opted to head out for smallies , I checked in with the apps and saw that there was a minor moon phase and wind conditions in my favour so back down to the local I go. Chucking spoons for a good 3 hours with not a whiff , decided to throw on the ole Rapala and first cast had a big girl smoke it. What a fight she put up. A bunch of runs and acrobatics and she finally hit the net. Some how I managed to have the front trebles in her , Thank God, as you can see she snapped that rapala in half. All in all the fishing has been great and amongst these crazy times I can always find my solstice down at the water. I’ll keep posting and appreciate all the members who have been doing so for years. 4. Quick little fishing trip, Went up to the Notty with the father in law and my son in the little 10 foot tinny. Had a few bites, saw a couple bows splash. Didn’t catch anything. But it was a great day spent on the river. Hopefully it will turn on soon with the rain coming

  5. Had a good weekend of fishing. Safe to say the fall temperatures have arrived. Started out Friday night with my pal Mepps , we got out and successfully washed all the musky lures we had on hand. Seems like the fish have pushed off and moved out of the early fall spots we were previously having success on. It’s always a good time when I get out with Mepps and with a friendship spanning 20 or so years , it makes for lots to reminisce and talk about . Friday -Fish 1 - Jonny -NIL Early Saturday morning , myself and 2 of my sons headed out to the Upper Niagara. I had booked with a local guide . 6 hours of smallie hunting was on the menu . Should have know when the sunrise was so red that the weather would be dicey. “Red sky in the morning , sailors take warning “or something like that my Papa used to say. We launched out from Black Creek and started drifting and drop shottin plastics . 2 hours and nothing much happening . We switch over to swimbaits and start casting . I got a dink just before the rain moved in. Rain was not in the forecast but rain is what we got , wind picked up going opposite the current which created some interesting waters to be out on. We kept casting . Somewhere in between getting rained and splashed I tied into a nice smallie , biggest of this season by a pound or two. Another 2 hours of nada and our time was up. Neither of the lads caught anything but we did have a good time out there and the banter was top notch . Saturday- Fish 2 - Jonny -half a nil Got up this morning and headed over to the job site to make sure my operator and gas tech got set up alright . Finished up there by 10 am and decided to head down to the local and cast some spoons. Only myself and another guy with the waders on. We took turns landing fish. Caught some big males and a couple of females with eggs still spitting out of them. Restocked on Roe which is always great with the browns starting to come in . Sunday finished out great, definitely time to break out my insulated waders as I was freezing my nards off today in my lites. Lost a bunch of hardware but when you have a multiple fish day it doesn’t seem to hurt that bad . Back to work tomorrow but this time of year it won’t be more than a day or two before I’m casting a line for something somewhere . Tight Lines J.B.

  6. Can you imagine what a person like this could do, if they would put their efforts into legit work? They'd likely be a well respected employee; where did they decide thieving was a better way? Dan.

  7. I have always said "The cash is better in my pocket than the Governments." I have had ample of opportunities to pay it in town where there are the occasional line ups but why should I ?

  11. Totally ridiculous and outrageous that a human being would act in this manner! If there is illegal fishing going on contact the MNR hotline but to endanger people's lives because you feel you own the water or whatever is an asinine move! Sadly he'll probably get a fine and that's all! If you drove a vehicle recklessly through a bunch of people just hanging out, you would probably face some jail time! Hope that he gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law! Unfortunately, this type of incident is becoming more common place! Sober sane people do not do such things!

  12. The beauty of the Mitchell 300 is that it was easily repairable and parts were available for a really long time. I recall back in my youth in London, there was an elderly gentleman who repaired Mitchell's from his garage. I went with my Dad to get repairs done on a couple of Mitchell's including my 309 (I'm a lefty) and he had all the parts and fixed it right in front of you. I learned a lot just watching him. Bail springs were the usual culprit. My collection of Mitchell's includes early 300's, made in France as well as some mid 80's reels and lots of spare spools! HH

  13. I still have my mother’s Mitchell 300 from over 60 years ago. The best ones were the originals made in France.

  16. Years ago I took my bud's young son (14 ??) out casting for muskies up on Nip and although he was an excellent fisherman he'd never netted a bigger musky. I made a cast and hooked this girl and jokingly told my young friend that if he messed up the net job he'd be swimming back to camp. I knew he was nervous and he even said he was afraid he'd lose it on me but he did and excellent job and got her in the boat but I'm sure I heard him let out a sigh of relief LOL

  17. ive told this story before but my old man put his rod down ice fishing one time and a pike immediately bit his line and took his rod down the hole gone. 5 minutes later my dad jumped up and shoved his arm down his hole, the fish had swam back past the hole and the rod floated up into his hole again, he grabbed the rod and landed the fish and ate it for dinner.

  18. Wow, that’s so lucky! Last year I saw a guy bottom fishing for salmon at the pier. He just made a cast and just placed his rod down while taking a seat on his chair. Next thing you know his rod gets pulled in the water. A min or two passes and you hear a few guys down calling fish on! The guy ends up hooking onto the dudes rod. He unhooks the rod and the original guy came in and fought his fish and lands it. Very lucky.

  19. Pure luck Brian. It was a strange day for sure, topped off nicely by big smallies and a limit of walleye. The ONLY bright side! LOL No fish and no snag. Just a black and yellow knee for my troubles!

  20. Dang. I did that on Erie fishing at the back of Chongers boat. Rod went over and well, it was too wavy to even try to get it back. Nice catch and revive. LOL
