ketchenany Posted August 16 Report Posted August 16 Had it happen in Cochrane. No pics, nothing that size though. Bit and let go.
Barry Willis Posted August 16 Author Report Posted August 16 This one wouldn't let go until we tried to net the two of them.
Barry Willis Posted August 16 Author Report Posted August 16 I expect you will recognize the name Rick, Glenmore Reservoir in S.W. Calgary right off the shore of Heritage Park.

They happen to have the exact same photo on their website. https://www.canadianflyinfishing.com/2007/08/more-new-pictures/ Edited August 16 by CrowMan
Barry Willis Posted August 16 Author Report Posted August 16 Hmmmm is right. Well if it is the exact same photo and I don't doubt what you are saying I guess my fishing buddy who is no longer with us and my grand son were Bull ing me then. I am just showing the pic that was sent to me and quoting what they told me. I'll have to see what my grand son has to say about this. I am not very happy about it especially having posted it here. And they were using my canoe this particular evening.

Barry Willis Posted August 16 Author Report Posted August 16 I see what you mean Rick with the word we in there which was an error on my part. I should have went into more detail. I was just telling it the way it was told to me. No I sure wasn't there. In fact my wife and I were in Goderich Ontario at the time. I just got off the phone with my grand son and he was quite surprised at this and said it never happened. So obviously my fishing buddy Eric at the time was bull ing me. All the time I knew him he had a inferiority complex, telling stories in hopes that others would think more of him as for some reason he quite often felt left out, although he wasn't, if that makes any sense. My apologies for this to all of you. I thought it was worthy of posting, had I known the truth I sure as Hell wouldn't have. But I didn't and I wish I hadn't, it is very upsetting.
glen Posted August 17 Report Posted August 17 This is turning into a great fishing story. If you net them it might not be legal to keep the big one as it’s not hooked in the mouth. It’s a new way to foul hook. if you wait until the big one swallows the little one then you can keep both. I have got two on the same lure. Both on different hooks so legal to keep both. 1

Gotta love when people over estimate. 1

That's a good point there Glen, although I have caught, especially pike that just hung onto the bait without actually being hooked. My youngest son and I once caught a walleye with both our hooks in it's mouth. Kinda brings new meaning to a double header.

Hence the old saying when a fellow talking to his fishing buddy says, all fishermen are liars except for me and you, and to tell the truth, I'm not too sure about you. 1

And as BillM has noted, those pike are nowhere near that size. The picture has been making the rounds for years, with various waterbodies claimed as the location, including lakes in Europe. 1
jum-bowes Posted August 22 Report Posted August 22 I have those pics in my email from 2008-2010 ish and theres more than one. There was like 4 .It was a record pike eating a 3-4lber. According to then, but it was something like 42 lbs. I will see. Could of been bag of beans as well, but the photos were good.. maybe Elon at 16 lol

akaShag Posted August 24 Report Posted August 24 this one from 2010 https://anglerwise.com/2010/05/31/giant-pike-caught-using-a-large-pike-as-bait/
akaShag Posted August 24 Report Posted August 24 and this purports to be the true story behind the photo, from an eye witness: https://www.northernpikefishing.ca/northern-pike-eats-pike.htm

But the fact of the matter is the 36 inches is pure Bull, the victim pike in that picture is just not that big. The eye witness estimated it as 24 inches. 1
