I will never buy another ford product again

years ago I bought the wife a windstar, great car to begin with but at 4 yrs old and 110 k the tranny went...no satisfaction from any one other then the 2100 I gave to the shop to fix it.

Against my better judgment I bought an 04 freestar new, again a great looking car and I figured with a larger engine might be less strain on a tranny...

Was I ever utterly wrong.....at 104k the tranny is now slipping in that car also.....needless to say I now need a tranny rebuild or to go buy another car.. im going to try and call the ombudsman at ford today to see what can be done but I have 0 hope on that department.......

Now I need to find a reputable tranny shop any recomdations thanks

No offense but that's nothing. Let me tell you a real Ford nightmare. In 2004 my partner and I qualified for the Cabelas Team Walleye Championship to be held in Dubuque Iowa. We took my boat and drove my F150. Before I left I had a short in my trailer which I had fixed. We arrived a week early to pre-fish. Two days before the tourney while returning to the hotel we stopped for a pizza. Returning to the truck I noticed my headlights were on; soon I also noticed I had no taillights and no dash lights. We took it to the Ford garage up the street from our hotel. The garage got us in the next morning. 4 hours later I was presented with a bill for $350.00. That day everything worked, but the morning of the tourney I didn't even get out of the lot before the same thing occurred. We took a chance and drove to the launch anyhow. The tourney director gave me permission to use my phone on the water to call the garage. The garage picked up both my boat and trailer, took it back to the garage (5 miles away), did some work about which they were unspecific, and presented me with another $150.00 bill at the end of the day. After the tourney I drove home to PA without event. That weekend the same thing happened a 3rd time. I took it upon myself to check things out and low and behold found it was a fuse issue all along, which I fixed for under $2.00. So I had $500.00 into this plus all the aggrevation over a fuse. I contacted both the dealership and Ford Motor and never got any satisfaction. I traded the truck in within a month. I will never own another Ford for the rest of my life. Sorry if I sound bitter, it's probably because I still feel I was robbed.

Same here, no more FORD's for me - EVER!

My 1996 Ranger (that I got brand new) had the starter motor fall out when I went in for my 3rd oil change! After that everything started going inc. the clutch. 1 week after I had the clutch work done it went up for sale. Other then when I got married and my kids were born seeing that truck drive away was one of the happiest moment in my life. Mind you, my wife's 2003 Grand Caravan isn't such a good one either...

I think that whether we drive Ford, GM, Chrysler, or even up until recent years imports, some of us can relate similar stories.

True, but most of the cars I have had and or have now that have come out of Japan have been amazing.

The way i see it if i can take it out then i can fix it but if it gets to be to much for myself to handle i take it in to the shop.

I've always had imports and just last month got my first GMC SUV and so far so good only thing is new brakes but thats with all cars.

The best thing to do befor buying a car or truck is to read up on the car or truck and find out any problems they might have or recalls they might have.

I know with knew cars and trucks we are the ones testing them out on everyday driving.

With time everything brakes down but i understand on a 4 year old truck things should not be falling apart.

I had a V6 Camry and drove it without any repairs for 6 years. I was selling in those days and put on a ton of miles. I change the oil every 5000km. and nothing ever went wrong. Best car I've ever owned. To bad I can't afford one of their trucks to pull my boat.

My tow vehicle is a Dodge Ram 1500. They are cheap trucks, but I have had good service from mine...260,000km and still going. I wish the brakes were bigger, the extra weight of the trailer really eats mine up in a hurry.

Garry to fix that problem on your truck they do sell a bigger brake kit for under 600.

Thats the lines that i'm going when it comes to my SUV stock brakes don't cut it when it comes to towing the boat.

I too will never buy a ford. I bought a brand new 1990 F150. This was my first new vehicle and the last with Ford. The tutone paint was starting to peel so I contacted Ford and told them I wasn't happy because the paint was peeling. It took a while but they set up a meeting with the dealer who were going to do a tape test on the truck. They decided they would re-paint the center grey colour but not the outer red even though the red paint was falling off too. The grey was coming off in big chunks and the red paint was falling off in little pieces. Within 6 months the grey was showing rust where there wasn't any before the re-paint. Where the red paint was missing and they didn't re-paint, there was no rust at all.

I also had 3 recalls for items to be fixed.

The oil gauge then started bouncing around and I took it in to the dealer. They said the motor was done and I would need a new one. Cost would be $3600. I had never driven the truck hard and always changed the oil. The truck was 7 years old with 50,000 km's on it when the oil gauge started acting up. Then the cruise control stopped working, gas tank leaked etc etc. Never again!!!!

Tom

Maybe stuff like this is why the big three are having problems now. Funny how companies can have the don't care attitude until the whole company is at risk of going under, then they scramble for their lives.

My family always had fords, Taurus, escorts, windstars, contour, mystique so on, and never had any major problems. Darn, I sold my 1992 escort with 350,000km all original, and the new owner still has it.

Treat them nice and they will be nice to you.

Just my 2c

Daniel

I have owned vehicles of many makes and now I stick to Japanese only. Toyota, Honda, or Nissan. Just don't buy them off of body shops. Most of the time they are accident cars. German cars are great also.

Owned a 2001 ford windstar. Never had a problem, van allways had its oil changes every 5000 km. I loved that Van till i was in a car accident a little over a month ago and the van was written off. It had 268,000 KM on her and still ran like a little beauty...I was gutted she was wrote off. :( ...Done alot of travleing and towing with her and you would not beleive the crap i have moved with that van and she was allways good to me.

Yes we all now the story domestics stink and Japanesse products are perfect, ask all the Toyota Yaris owners how they like their trannies or a buddy of mine who`s Honda Civic with less than 30k Km`s threw a piston through the block.

In my driveway you will see a Buick, a GMC, a Ford and a Dodge!

Don`t get me wrong I love Toyota and Honda as they are VERY good customers of mine I just hate the constant bashing of the domestics.

Only trucks that have ever seen our driveway are GMC and Toyota. No complaints on either of them (Except the mileage on the V6 Tacoma was horrible for the size of the truck.)

Currently the oldman has a '07 GMC 2500HD Duramax, absolutely loves it. A '06 Jetta TDI also is stashed inside his garage..

Personally, I don't buy cars that aren't diesel :) My '00 Jetta TDI has 475,000km's on it and there is no sign of it giving up anytime soon. Only thing that isn't original engine wise is the starter. Besides a few sets of brakes, some e-brake cables its all original.

Maintenance is the key to having your car/truck last a long time.

Yes a reputable shop like MrT will do a fine job just make sure they give you the warranty you need. Just one thing, put a cooler on the trany and if you do tow with it get them to tighten up the shifts some to reduce heat and clutch wear, change the fluid on a regular basis because that's where every auto transmission will die from abuse. And use Royal Purple transmission oil if you can. Some Ford automatics do suck but it's also how you maintain them.

Oh FYI, I run a few Rangers mine is a old faithful 86;) not going to sell her anytime soon.

I also cant understand why my Nissan Pathfider which is fairly small and has Japanese technology, burn so much gas!!! And I always keep it in overdrive. Out of overdrive it is worse! city or hiway!

I have no doubt, if they wanted to, the truck can be modified to burn way less gas. Probably take away from the power, (like the Toyota 4 runner) but it would be an all around better towing vehicle, unless you are pulling heavy loads.
