  1. Never really targeted bass until late summer/ early fall when more large ones seem to hit topwaters, so this early stuff had me a bit perplexed . Turns out buddy wants to go to Rice Lake around Roseneath so seems like fishing for walleyes produces bass judging by responses here. lol Just seems like late spring around here still, will try deeper presentations along weedlines i guess.
  2. Bullheads are unbelievably tough. One winter there was a thaw and flash flood on Oshawa Creek. This was followed by the coldest weather of year right after. Went down a few days later and the shallow ponds left on floodplain were frozen solid. An assortment of fish were frozen dead in ice, Chubs, sunfish, small bass etc. The only fish that were still alive at that point were the bullheads, Was amazed too.
  3. Was surprsied to notice that Largemouth and Smallmouth are open this upcoming Saturday in Kawarthas. Seems way earlier than usual. Is this right? What produces fish this early in season:? Later in summer topwaters and spinnerbaits are good but not sure what to throw or where. this early. Any ideas?
  4. That's true. I remember a thread 5-6 yrs. ago about this and it was summarized by posts like 'who cares'. lol Have caught 15 to 20 inch musky and the are silvery with dark markings.
  5. That is awesome! Your son should remember that forever. I remember my father talking me to local creek 40 yrs. ago for perch and bullheads like it was yesterday.
  6. HaHa, I was gonig to phone cops but apparently BPS are licensed, lol
  7. Ya pike. Pretty sure it is illegal to keep native species in an aquarium. Probably wouldn't live long anyways.
  8. Hard to believe but bass season opens down here (FMZ 17) next weekend. Almost seems that smallmouth could be seen as an invasive species on Gullrock L. there. Nice catch though.
  9. Again, had to take a look at this most incredible episode of morning fishing.
  10. Thanks for the link Enjoy reading anything by Dr. Casselman. Mentions that a species of lake trout "Haliburton Gold" was replenished by closing season earlier....etc.
  11. Congrats! Look forward to the episodes. Hopefully there will be some coverage of the good fishing in southern Ontario.
  12. They put numbers in computer programs and it generates maps etc... Everyone uses the same stuff called GFS or NAM maps, etc... There really isn't any individual person. You have to blame it on the computer programs....lol.
  13. WOW1 That is a morning of fishing, on fabled waters.i have dreamed of since childhood. Truly remarkable stuff! Many thanks for taking the time posting this!
  14. Some real beauty fish there. Great report
  15. Wow, that is a real decent fish.
  16. Seems that in smaller, shallow Kawartha lakes (Mitchell, Canal, Percy's Reach) the pike take over. In larger, deeper lakes (maybe Pigeon, Buckhorn, etc....), there is a good chance they co-exist as musky spawn in and live in deeper waters. There are many examples of larger bodies of water where both species live.
  17. Could spend all day trolling likely structure for muskies, or throwing topwaters for bass/musky.
  18. Yup, the next month (June) the white bass will be near mouth of Lake Ontario tribs. I remember as a kid catching jumbo perch, sunfish and white bass during last few weeks of school at creek mouth. Little Panther Martin spinners are good.
  19. I really like this report! The video of the trout fishing really put me there enjoying.the typical Algonquin landscape. Put it on full screen and the video was incredibly clear and stable. Your enthusiasm for fishing probably keeps you young and strong.
  20. That one named D.I.L.I....was back as C. Lof....something. Both personas got the boot. Back about 6 or 7 yrs. ago he sent me an e-mail asking about Toronto harbour pike but still had [email protected]. Around 6 or 7 yrs. ago fishing reports with pictures dominated the board. Now the rare fishing report with pictures/video is a welcome break from the non fishing stuff.
  21. Everything in this report is super well done. Like how you target the top species according to the season of your area. Can't wait till you target the biggest muskies that call that region home.
  22. Really liked this little report. Your dog chasing the pike at end of video is great.
  23. Nice report. Actually fishing is the best especially when catching. When you could fish the Talbot R. by Gamebridge the last week of March was best. Good stuff!
  24. So few fishing reports on board these days. Many thanks for this excellent one.!
  25. You are right. They are just more pale than Kawartha crappie, thus i mistook them.
