  1. Well it is a joke this show. Things now have to be found materially to exist in this age of science. No bone, scat, hair, etc have been found of cougars in Ontario for a long while. The 'squatch is probably a bear standing way in the distance and getting peoples imagination going. As far as 'cougars' at the 'Boo they probably are easily found. lol
  2. The Kawartha musky don't get much bigger than that. After 30 yrs. i never caught one there that big. Lots to 47" but never bigger. That is a healthy, fat musky without a scrape. Always wondered what the now extended season would cough up in the cold. Congrats and thanks for posting.
  3. Was at Petawawa R. in Algonquin this summer. Caught bass, musky, and channel cats on Rapalas, Live Target, jigs/sassy shads w/worm (no minnows allowed). Couldn't catch a walleye however. Thought about it afterwards and came to conclusion that simple worm, splitshot, and slip bobber setup at night in spots will be used next time. Worm, boobber, sinker simply might be ticket there.
  4. As have mentioned before watching Jen's determination and strength of spirit, helps me the most in my fight to walk due to disabling disease. She is truly an inspiration!
  5. Seemed the best 'bow fishing for me was back in the 80's when they had cheap spinning gear. Fresh roe helped. Best bass fishing was from cheap tinny where i wasn't scared to go into shallow, rocky areas. Getting out fishing was way better than sitting at computer wishing i was fishing.
  6. Sounds like it wasn't going to well for a bit there, especially the Timmies coffee situation. Nice rebound with the smallies however. It is tough to go out in boat and freeze at this time of year. It is especially very hard to find bass at this time of year as well. Great job and thanks for providing this.
  7. That is what i was kinda thinking. There is so little of interest on TV that i find BoBo and gangs travels and efforts hilarious to watch. Maybe that is the point of the show. There does seem to be a history of sightings by natives before white men arrived however. Seems to be even less reports of cougars in Ontario.
  8. Bet more people share that experience more than they care to admit.
  9. That is a traumatic and scary story. You are lucky to get away. Lots of strange creatures up in the north as well.
  10. Seems that there is a lot of sightings of Bigfoot in the United States. This show has a crew going around too town meetings in Kentucky, Michigan, Illinois, New Jersey, etc... where hundreds of people are speaking of their encounters with some big hairy beast. The crew would then go to sighting locations and try to locate or entice a Sasquatch into showing itself. Usually it would be a small patch of woods at the end of some farmers field. The experts would declare the area as having a 'squatchy' feel. They would do yells or bang sticks on trees hoping for a reply. Sometimes they would hear something afterwards like a coyote or something and get excited and declare "thats a 'squatch" It's funny how money is infested in this but makes me wonder if anyone has been creeped out by something in our truly vast wilderness here in Ontario. I remember being in Algonquin many years ago with a gf and heard the freakiest calls and such. Turned out to be a Barred Owl. Heard a huge crash and thud in forest near tent but turned out to be a tree falling. Anyone have a 'squatchy story. Thought folks here might due to being out in the woods hunting and fishing a lot. http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_county_reports.asp?state=ca-on
  11. The same thing happened to me about 15 yrs. ago. Found a Red -Tail Hawk with injured wing by King/Jarvis St. Weird thing was it let me approach it and hold it. Put it in my vehicle and drove to animal shelter on nearby River St. where they took it in for rehabilitation.
  12. Did the ice fishing at Quinte since early 1990's. Found that tipping swedish pimples with 2 whole emerald shiners and jigging along breaks from 10-15 ft. or 20-25 ft. etc... worked best. Jigging Raps. Williams wobblers, etc all worked. Seems you have to let lure settle on bottom then rip it up a few feet, let it flutter down and repeat. Different places all had there time from off Trenton, Belleville, Deserento. The Long Reach area seemed best from 20-25 ft when ice is safe. Dress warm and good luck.
  13. Don't eat it. It is some type of russula mushroom. Not deadly but not edible. Did a lot of mushroom foraging back in the day, very few were edible. Anything with white gills is almost deadly. Did find chantrelles and other good ones, lots of times they would have tons of bugs though. Here is a list of good ones. You have to be careful. http://northernbushcraft.com/guide.php?ctgy=edible_mushrooms&region=ontario
  14. Ya, that is a beauty Tiger Muskie. You can tell by its spotted, rounded pike fins. Lake St.Clair is undoubtedly the premiere musky destination. The size and NUMBERS of fish combined is incredible. Fantastic report, read it all!
  15. Bought the phone at 7/11. Their phone service "Speak Out" is pay as you go. The time lasts a YEAR. So i buy minimum time (20 minutes, cost 25 dollar). Have phoned Toronto from Kawarthas so it works. So 25 dollars a YEAR isn't bad since it is barely used.
  16. From what i have read they say it is "sashimi" quality meat on silver carp. They have electrofished and netted much of western Lake Erie and have caught no specimens. Only a 2 Bighead Carp were found 15 yrs. or ago so they haven't taken to Great Lakes at all yet.
  17. Little bit younger but decided to have cell phone when fishing or longish drives. Bought a cell phone at 7/11 five years ago for 70 bucks or so and have paid 25 dollars A YEAR to keep it going. They call it 'Speak Out'. Cell phone has camera, texting, et al, but i never use it. Geez, you can get a 14 megapixel Canon camera for 100 bucks these days. Good to just have cell phone around in case of emergency.
  18. Those are some fine fishiee you caught here in Ontario. Time sure does fly. I remember seeing you down at the Toronto Islands in the spring of 2005, 2006 which is about 7 yrs. ago now. Good to see you back around. There doesn't seem to be any T.O harbour front pike reports here anymore.
  19. Great report and pictures. Really gives a Northern Ontario experience. That musky is a brute and the 42" pike is amazing.
  20. That is a real nice fish. Odd that they are called Tiger Musky. They seem to have stronger pike characteristics, with the fins, colouring and such. Only good thing about pike entering Balsam. Beautiful fish!
  21. Very nice musky! You can tell it is the same one just by looking at the plating and its face. This has happened to me as well. Did a post on a few different versions of board going back many yrs. ago. Here is that post. http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=223 No doubt to me you caught the same fish twice. Beauty fish and surroundings. Congrats!
  22. Another great report! We are so lucky that you put so much time and effort into providing these posts for the viewers of this board to enjoy. Really you should be hooked up with a TV contract or something which would be well deserved. At first i thought you were joking that you hooked up with Julian and Ricky of Trailer Park Boys fame. LOL
  23. Those splake are really beautiful fish. Obviously well worth the trip! Thanks for taking the time to post this.
  24. What an awesome fish. Sounds like folks are seeing them all around the Great Lakes. It is a Lake Sturgeon one caught in Georgian Bay weighed about 165 lbs. The max size might be over 7 feet and 200 lbs. Great catch and photo!
  25. Usually the Kawarthas turnover sometime in last two weeks of October. What Mike outlined above is the best. On Pigeon Lake would always catch my largest walleye and musky over the next few weeks. Trolling large diving body baits (Believer,Depth Raiders,etc...) for muskies near reefs or rock drop offs worked well. Jigging Fin-s-fish with worms or minnows w/stinger hook near deepest water was good for walleyes. Never could find the bass however but apparently they group together deep. Go deep and dress warm!
