  1. Terrific grunt work and determination to do the right thing Ron ! Paid off eventually and hopefully the town has learned something from this and that other municipalities take heed. I'm heartened to hear the town wants to work with you to solve the fishing situation and the town can only benefit from this as far as I'm concerned. Kudos !
  2. Had co-workers, a couple, who commuted every single day from north of Oro Station to downtown Toronto. Wife hated it but hubs was the driver. She would just roll her eyes when I asked why they didn't buy a basic shoebox and live there during the week. Reclaiming the hours of their lives lost to commuting would more than make up for the cost of a rental or purchase of a bach condo imo. Is this something that would be feasible for you and your girl Disco ?
  3. ^ yepper
  4. there was fish porn ? I was admiring the boats trying to figure out who made the ones with the ribs and gunwales and this should be pinned to get us through the long nights ahead cuz it was a great read and I recognize some of those characters from my days in the ps system
  5. Is the plan to drive to work or are you cool with parking at a commuter hub and grabbing a GO / TTC train ? Either way, rush hour on any 400 series is going to be a test of patience imo. I'd also go n/w in spite of the blinding morning and afternoon sun, nice pair of Maui Jims will help with that problem btw, you sure you really want to leave Little Italy ?
  6. It's kinda taking the long, roundabout route and more work but if you have attic crawl space behind the nest, drill a hole, stick a straightened coat hanger through it and whack away. Like I said, not the simplest or easiest way but that's me or buy an RC helicopter, buzz it close to the nest and chop away with the blades, might as well have some fun no ?
  7. Great read Miracon, I hope the bullies realize that one day, they WILL be on the other side of the fence and hopefully change their ways before it's too late. The one thing people I know who have kids studying martial arts appreciate is that they learn respect. Respect for others but also respect for what they are capable of and to understand it's not something to be flaunted or abused. With such knowledge comes responsibility and a good school will make sure this is not forgotten.
  8. Seriously ? I am/ was this close >< to pm'ing you about your Guidewater jacket. The price is way more than fair if it's in decent condition and Patagucci gear stands the test of time, judging by the capilene I have I may still pm you if I can't keep my GAS under control lol.
  9. Not something I would run but could the transom be beefed up with stronger knee braces or is this basically a non starter to begin with ? I know I would feel a bit spooked running 80 horses on a 16 foot tinny cuz I'd wanna see how it felt wot which would be a real bad idea.
  10. A three car/ boat garage ? man what I wouldn't do to have that at my place
  11. I think if it's a huge body of water like O or your home waters on the St. Lawrence, then that's cool to just say Lake O or whatever. Being specific such as "the rocky point off the million dollar log home with the cute girls who sunbathe" is too much and as pointed out, verboten. Obviously waypoints are def out. Also agree re:photos. keep the background unidentifiable. edit-ok, I had to look up the lake as it's one I've never been on. A boat cruising wiki page says it's 47 km long. That's a huge body of water even if it's just a widening of the St. Lawrence...
  12. This pretty much sums it up in 14 words. thanks Lew
  13. or try driving in China where the words 'rules of the road' haven't found their way into the driving school lexicon It's an interesting experience being in a cab with the driver passing on the OUTSIDE of a curve at around, I dunno, 120 or so with full on traffic. Makes drivers in Rome seem downright sensible
  14. Usually the first thing I do when I pick up new lures, grab the pliers and pinch 'em down. I attribute a few losses to shakes but not enough to worry about and easy hook removal makes up for it. Nothing worse than trying to remove a deep set hook from a very agitated fish.
  15. The flashlight is very key. Had friends making a late season whitewater run in eastern Ont. a few years back. Something happened and they had to hoof it out on foot and light was dropping fast at that time of the year. They had a single light I believe but another would have been very handy. I've never used it for such but it could be THE difference if you're out floating around and you can hear air rescue searching for you. Blink the light in standard sos and hopefully a spotter will see you. I also like Irish's practice of tying onto a rope so if you did end up out of the craft, the boat won't drift away, presuming the kill switch did shut the motor off as well. Just haul yourself back and scramble aboard.
  16. I hope they find him somewhere out there, cold and shivering but alive. If the waves were steep and the wave period really short, it'd be an uphill battle not taking in water though. Speaking of pfd's. How many have a minimalist ditch kit in theirs ? I used to keep three small signal flares and an emergency space blanket in my old pfd. Current one has a whistle on a zinger, a Spyderco knife (can be opened one handed) and if I remember to pack it , a small waterproof flashlight and firestarter. For whitewater runs in the spring/fall and winter, a few more things make the trip.
  17. anywhere near the 60th or maybe a trip to New Zealand. or Labrador
  18. spring and moving water work for me... the smaller the water, the better
  19. you know, all it would have taken would have been for the couple to be polite from the start. come over and say hi, ask who you're a guest of and if you know you're not allowed to put in at the beach. and to have a good day fishing. you'd think the privileged would show a bit more class.
  20. Googled a bit and if this is the lake I found, it's a shame then. The lake is crown and gets the benefits of our public tax dollars to preserve and protect the waters but is only accessible to those who live there. If I was a local, I'd be po'ed at the local government for letting this come to pass. I hope the water quality suffers and becomes a stench filled pool
  21. lol. An OFC armada with everyone flying jolly rogers. Why am I thinking of Animal House and Dean Wormer at this moment
  22. Imagine that, a gated community on the water Sounds like they were po'ed they didn't get to rip you off with their launch fees. Unless the fish were jumping in your canoe, it'd be a place I'd skip in the future.
  23. Terry you are one seriously lucky guy. Your wife is definitely a keeper
  24. Is bringing something like this an option ? http://www.basspro.c...t/45413/-967236
  25. Fantastic photos and terrific trip report Frank, thanks ! I enjoy reading these kind of posts on OFC and look forward to seeing more as they come in. I'm getting the impression from reading about all the trips people here are doing, that there isn't enough time in the world to visit all these places ! I love the French and West Arm but Chapleau and beyond is making me look forward to 2012.
