  1. Great report ! There a number of lakes off 60 that locals keep quiet about and all you need is a short carry and this one looks like it would be a great place to put up tent if it was marked. If the cart is the one with large bicycle wheel ands folds down, these are indeed the cat's arse. Have seen people stack three canoes or so on them.
  2. jealous. you're making me jealous your dad should make this kind of weekend an annual thing !
  3. My heart breaks for his wife and two kids, she was most likely was trackside watching it all. The organizers are going to be facing a full on assualt over this....too many cars, track too fast and some racers who probably didn't belong on the oval not to mention the $5 000 000 pot. This was as bad a pileup as I've seen and can't recall the last time I saw as may cars launching and hitting the wall. I never felt really comfortable watching open wheels on speed ovals unlike Nascar cars which are veritable tanks by comparison.
  4. A semi epic trip there but glad it worked out in the end and you saved a ton of $ as well Glad you were able to walk away from the Triton when you didn't feel the love and also found a number of 'hmm, this doesn't look good' issues. and damn, you're gonna be picking up Jackie's bar tab for some time , an awesome friend who probably knows you as well as you know yourself oh, yeah, pics please lol

  6. from me as well and I'm crossing fingers, legs and anything else that will help your mom kick the C to the curb.
  7. maybe Adventure Guide ? agree with considering Marine Goop or depending on your use, go to a pet shop and get some aquarium silicone sealer.
  8. saw this news yesterday as well and I'm truly sorry and saddened by your loss. My sincerest condolences to you and your family.
  9. while not my favorite wood, they carve into nice canoe paddles as well
  10. Sounds like a wonderful way to spend Thanksgiving weekend, the whole family pitching in and working together. but wow, I can't imagine pulling all that copper Wayne ! great macguvyering on the respool
  11. This has win written all over it As Terry suggested, perhaps Legend would work as well. I've been eyeing the 16' full consoles but need a fatter wallet. Good luck in your search and don't forget pics when you take delivery !
  12. nothing beats cool, overcast days on small streams
  13. For many, and hopefully my case if I plan things right for the future (getting acreage with hardwood forest for starters), burning wood is one more way to slowly get off the grid. With it you can heat your place, cook and I'm sure someone out there has made one, *could* be a fuel source for an electrical generator, which is basically what power plants are in essence, steam generators.
  14. Welcome and hello Blainer ! Good to see another APP on the board. It's a good place to trip and fish, if you don't mind putting a few portages behind you.
  15. If you're ever in Toronto, Active Surplus would be a place to look. They have cutoffs etc and I picked up probably same as what you're looking for. Mine was about 1/2" thick , 4"x36 " or so. If I'm in the area ( Queen and Spadina'ish), I can take a look.
  16. really good news sbk. hopefully it will go like this 18-->5.3-->0
  17. not to jack your thread ah_long but a question for the wise ones here and it's kinda on topic I'm looking at getting something similar next year or so (full console if I can swing it) and I'm not a speed demon on the water, what would be a good all rounder for this ? 40 ? 60 ? thx
  18. I was wondering about that esp with the camera rolling but regardless, it looks like a supremely stoopid thing to even attempt. Extremely stoopid and definitely Darwin of the Year worthy.
  19. Probably didn't take a safety course and I hope he truly appreciates how SO damn lucky he is to be alive. If he's married, his wife should put locks on the triggers.
  20. Blackfeather Wilderness Adventures runs Mag trips top to bottom. Might be worth a call ? Really good people...
  21. Mountain Equipment Co-op should have them. Depending on where you're putting in and how far downriver you're paddling there are a couple of good portages and rapids to bypass (Sellars comes to mind if you don't have class 3+ skills)). I've run from Ahmic down to Britt and be aware that there's reserve land on the lower Mag so camping will be minimal. Also the Mag is chock full of poison ivy.
  22. Holy crap batman, if that's where I think it is, that water is LOOOOOW and the boat flipper probably didn't see much action
  23. I think we should try and convince the MNR to stock her pond with Aurora trout
