  1. If I can get the same quality in a lower sticker price, I'm all over that ! Extra funds for terminal or gas for the truck/boat lol or that cottage upgrade at Lakair or Memquisit
  2. It's heartening to hear members have good experience with the lower priced units. I've always been of the mind that you get what you pay for and thus have the bank balance to prove it If one could get two reels for the price of a higher end model, that leaves me with a spare/backup. I'll take a good look at the BPS Qualifiers since it's getting good reviews here and that counts for something imo. I think looking down the road re:service and parts needs to be part of the equation so will think carefully about going with an Abu. I'm a lefty fwiw. If anyone has opinions on a 2 piece stick for said fish, I'm all ears. thanks again ! WB
  3. Ok, gonna pull the trigger and get a baitcast setup this spring. Previously was looking at a Shimano Curado (older version) or newer Chronarch. Other option is Abu Garcia Revo SX. So for bass, pike and maybe walleye, is it splitting hairs or does one reel have an edge over the other. The extra ounce doesn't seem like it should make a diff, even on a long day throwing cranks, I hope. I've handled both in the shop and for some reason, like the offset Abu handles but is this enough ? There's no rush since I probably won't be able to hit the water till post 2/4 weekend. Sad, I know tia WB
  4. x2 what TJ says, Dave. I went through this a couple of years ago with my dad and it was relatively fast. I still think if I'd done a few things differently, he'd still be here but I tend to believe in fate so... All your dad needs is to see you there with him and that'll give him tremendous support through these days. Be strong for him in spite of how much it hurts you to see him like this, and that will give him great comfort. I wish the best for you and your family. Freddy ps-my neighbour and some friends are OP's and I know they'll move mountains to make sure your dad gets better.
  5. do yourself a favour and hit Efstonscience and not Kahnscope. Better service at Efston, a friend had a credit at Khanscope but they kept stalling, something about can't find the paper that listed the credit...stinking tools. wasn't much but suffice it to say that place is not getting any of mine or my friend's money. marc or bruce are two good guys to ask for help at efston
  6. too late BB, our gov't is already making kissy kissy with that paragon of human rights, China. Makes me shake my head...
  7. My wife and friends observe from the city and you should be able to see the major objects in the sky. Orion, Summer Triangle both Dippers etc..Venus was up near the moon recently and it looked great. Take a look at joining the local club ( RASC or North York AA) Not sure where you are but many go to Bayview Village Park to observe. If you want to learn more, look up the David Dunlap Observatory in Richmond Hill. The Toronto centre of RASC operates the big boy there and they have public and members nights where on clear nights, members bring their scopes so this would be a good opportunity to pick brains What you might try is, if you have a good pair of binos, use those to look at the sky before investing in a telescope. Something in the 10x50 range is pretty ideal. Good luck ! WB
  8. Gotta say one of my favorite sounds is the drag on a fly reel as a fish makes the break for freedom.
  9. You're doing all you can do short of writing to your local MPP. Would be great if local tackle shops posted photos of said miscreants on a wall of fame for all to see.
  10. I'm with bigbuck, I wouldn't let just anyone who asked, the permission to hunt, I'd prefer to let responisble people I know onto my property. The renter has no right to allow access or permission to the property imo.
  11. ha ha. gonna be good eats, how big a bird was it ?
  12. mmm, turkey. the other white meat btw, your thumbs open into even smaller photos. can you resize them ?
  13. congratulations Nick ! While it could be a hook set, I thought he/she was working on their double haul. elbows looked alright and decent form for a 20 week old
  14. Should be several good options on Wolseley Bay. I've only ever stayed at Totem Point but may try the Lodge at Pine Cove (library there is named after a friend who wrote book on the French) next time. Get the impression the Lodge is not really targeting the fishing crowd though. There's also Wolseley Lodge and Bryer Lodge. I like the vibe at Lakair over on the West Arm but you'd need to split everyone up though.
  15. Thanks Chris ! I appreciate hearing from someone from OFAH. And agree, what would be the point of doing things at a loss, no one wins but the lawyers so to speak There are killer prizes in this year's lottery. Access to the Otanabee is a great resource and a great way to make the best use of your place. cheers, WB
  16. Wow, thanks Chessy. Don't mean to speak ill of non profits but I don't like the sounds of this and I truly have a hard time understanding how it can cost close to 3/4 million to run a lottery. Hope they didn't pay for high priced help that sucked them dry. Was last year an anomaly or is this a pattern from previous years ? full disclosure: am currently not nor have I ever been a member of OFAH.
  17. I'm guessing these are just ball park numbers but I wouldn't think it would cost THAT much to run the lottery, otherwise what's the point ? Should be able to run it for waaay less I'd think. and yeah, negative billing sucks (this is what it is, let's be honest) and should be banned. and I may be wrong on their location (see it every time I drive up past P'boro) but why does a non profit need to have waterfront ? do they do public ed or outreach there ? that I could understand.
  18. yep, those two are smile worthy but I gotta ask, that place for sale behind you, nice place ? lol
  19. I'd give Open Air books in Toronto a try. They're a gold mine for niche books and they had a really nice selection on fishing last time I was there and even better on paddling. Adelaide St. East and Toronto St., downtown. and if there's one there, grab me a copy please
  20. Imagine how annoyed she'd be if her flight was grounded lol
  21. ha ha. been there done that, but not golfing. fortunately she was a cool boss and it was work related so I was good
  22. That's heartbreaking. I'm not one to go the litigation route but that company should have been be sued to high hell and beyond. No way his wife should have to raise their two kids alone without some financial help. If the company was negligent and the fine would indicate so, yeah, they should be legally forced to bend over.
  23. It's been repeated ad nauseum everywhere but Jones should be made to jump a class. Yeah he may make weight for LHW but his body structure makes a huge difference where he is now. He wouldn't dominate if he was moved to HW which is where he really should be. Was hoping Makdessi would've gotten the win but he was up against, who I thought in this fight, was a boring leg slapper.
  24. reading liveblog on mmafighting and Rory's fight sounded insane. hope JBJ loses
