Well, as I have stated many time in Quinte threads, I run mono or lead core. 20lb mono... I ike the stretch, the elasticity and it's ability to shock absorb with long lines... tends to hold the fish better and not rip out hooks as well as impart action on my lure during a "Quinte chop"!... imho! HH

Roger, you are without a doubt, one of the nicest people I have ever met on this crazy board, my heart and my families go out to you at this time... HH

Should have named her "Rosie"... as in Whole Lotta Rosie! HH

That explains a lot of things Cliff, but it is still not an excuse for the bananas. HH

Well, I'd like to thank the (insert derogative term here) who came to my house "trick or treating" at 6:00 yesterday. They were a group of about 8 teens (boys) running from house to house. They rang my door bell, I told them they were too early, I hadn't even got the candy out yet. They said hey, no problem, we'll come back later. I closed the door, went about my business for a bit, came back out and they had kicked in one of our pumpkins and laid a loogy on my front door. My 9 year old daughter was devastated! We spent a good deal of time on the pumpkin, her and I. I know that they had to be local, so I will be keeping an eye open from them... not sure what I'll do, but I will get my pound of flesh. HH

Maybe because they were having problems with the finish splitting off of the bait?! I know I bought mine new and only used it a few times, only to find that the body was soaking up water and splitting the finish off of it. Just a guess mind you... HH

I have a Canon Powershot D20 I got free from Air Miles. Can't beat the price! I am happy with it so far, if for no other reason than my wife has not been able to break it yet! (note the word yet!!!) It's good to 30ft of water and is shock resistant to 5ft and freeze proof to -10C. We'll see how it does this winter ice fishing. HH
-
I have one just like that, well, not quite like that as mine has the finish coming off of it! Caught some nice smallies on that lure... HH

Geez Lew, by the time this thread starts to die off and people just drive away in their respective trucks, that ash tray may be full again! HH
-
Did you try varying your speed as well? How far out did you run your boards from the boat? Just curious... HH
-
Lew, if you were inclined to maybe empty the ash tray of candy wrappers more often, you might not want to get something new every time it gets full! Nice ride and I hope if gives you many years of enjoyment! HH

http://nj1015.com/these-photos-are-proof-albert-einstein-was-correct-about-technology/ Einstein was a pretty bright guy! So tell me that you are not seeing this kind of thing every day. I'll admit that like any tool, they have their place. An no, I wasn't insinuating that everyone who owns and uses one is like this, but so many are! HH

You should be used to that position Cliff... awe, the sun rises and falls in a delightful cascade of colours on the lake... HH -
^^^^ I would agree with that analogy... remember however, that we have restrictions on firearms and their usage... HH

Oh, I've seen the "good" that being tied down to a cell phone can bring. Just take a walk through a restaurant, a mall or any other place where humans used to actually speak to each other and you will find that the vast majority of people are ignoring the people they are out with and texting someone else. Frankly I find the whole attitude rude and ignorant. Go ahead, spend your life with a tiny machine that tells you what to do and how to do it... not happening for me. I could relate a story about a friend who can't go one minute without their phone, even on a fishing trip. Really, is that necessary? I simply don't agree that these devices are time savers, they are time vampires and those of us who value face to face time are going to continue to avoid them... and don't even get me started on all of the folks I see on the road talking and texting... once again, selfish, rude and ignorant. Those of you who think their life is better as a result of this technology, have you really taken a look at it objectively or perhaps you have not graced this planet long enough to have thrived without one. Does your life style really require you and everyone within your circle to have immediate attention or results? If so, perhaps a re-look at your life choices might be in order. JMHO! HH

Here's what happens to telemarketing calls in my house... TM - hello, Mr. HH? Me- yup, what's up? TM - I' calling from... Me- can you hold for a second? TM - sure... Me - hand the phone to my 9 year old daughter and tell her to talk to them about her Pokeman game... TM - still holding for ten minutes... Me - hang up when daughter done her story! I had a security company call recently... let them babble away until I said "I recently upgraded my home security and I went and installed the BFD system." "What's the BFD system sir, never heard of it" was the response. "Big Ass Dog" was my answer... they haven't called back. HH

Well, I own a cell phone and in all honety, I could'nt tell you where it is at this moment! I use it so little that I'm sure I create complete havoc at Mount Pleasant and Bloor every time I turn it on! LOL I don't text, never have and wouldn't even know how to access that function... Funny story, I received a charge of 25 cents on my Rogers bill some time ago. I called Rogers to find out what the heck that was doing on my bill, they said that I received a text. I said that I did not recall receiving a text and if I did, I wouldn't know how to access it and that I was not going to pay them a dime, because for all I know, it was Rogers who sent me the text. They insisted that I had to pay. I insisted that I speak to a manager. Got the manager on the phone, told him to review my account, notice NO TEXTS EVER and he dropped the charges. I then had texting removed from my account. So now I have to go wandering through the house looking for my phone! HH

I've done what Wayne suggests, counting the sweeps of the line guide as you are letting out. And I agree, if you are not up to investing in equipment as you don't plan to use this type of set up more than once or twice a year, counting sweeps is a reasonable alternative. The main draw back though, is repeatability, especially in less than ideal conditions. Also, one can easily learn how to set up multiple lines, using line counters and have all you lines working their way out at the same time... that becomes a bigger challenge when counting sweeps. No one is wrong here by they way... accuracy of the counter is not really that important as long as it is consistant... which makes success repeatable or lack of success a starting point to avoid. It is easier to say, "I got that one 150 back, 150 out from the boat, then it is to say "15 sweeps behind the board and 15 sweeps out from the boat. Or, it's even easier to hire Lloyd and have a nap until your turn comes up! LOL HH

Sounds a lot like Hillary to me! LOL I'll be keeping an eye on the sky for the wooden duck BB! HH

Oct 17/12 - Fall Walleye Hunting Under Way

Thanks for the report... and so it begins! I have heard that the water level is down two feet from it's normal low point for this time of year... can anyone verify this? Hey SD, have you seen any large baitfish schools as of yet? Thanks, HH -
For trolling you need: -line counter reel for two main purposes... to get your bait runing at the depth you wish and to make success repeatable. -8 ft rods in med to med heavy action, so you won't break your rod, which is under constant pressure/load from the board and lure, when you get a fish -rod holders... no one wants to how a rod with that much torque, by hand all day -an assorment of deep diving cranks that will entice Mr./Mrs. Pickereye to grab your lure. -line used is a personal decision... some like no stretch, some like me prefer mono as it is more elastic then no stretch and I feel (IMHO)it helps to keep the bait in the fishes mouth, vs ripping the lure out of it's mouth. -lead core it your're into it! -dipsey's can also be used -some folks like to use riggers... not something I would recommend -don't require a leader, a good quality snap will work just dandy And the number on piece of kit I suggest you bring if fishing Quinte in the fall is COMMON SENSE! It can be one of the nastiest bodies of water to be on when the weather/wind is given'er... there is a strong current throughout the entire Bay, combine that with Oct/Nov/Dec winds and water temp and it is a recipe for disaster it you are not very careful...I have spent many a day, staring out at the water as the wind has the Bay in a fury. One last thought... if you plan on fishing on a weekend and the weather/winds are going to be weak, bring a blow horn, cause the place is going to be a zoo! Hope that helps? HH

Are you planning on trolling or jigging? HH
