Pretty sure the X is still on the side of my brothers boat Raf... so we should be good for that spot. HH

Hey guys, My brothers family and mine are leaving on Saturday for a one week trip to "Jack's Lake". It is apparently close to Trout Lake... we have not been there before. I am told the lake holds pike, pickereyes and bass, no Lunge. Just wondering if anyone has ever fished the lake and might have some "local tips". It's gonna be a family thing, so I have armed myself with tons of jigs, bobbers and nightcrawlers... however, my brother and I like to get for a "serious fish or two" during the week... I assuming weedlines, rock piles etc... Anyway, any help is certainly appreciated! Feel free to PM me should you wish. Thanks, HH

Also, keep an eye to Springbank Dam as we get closer to September as trout and salmon make there way to the dam... HH

Firstly, welcome to the board... Here's a few spots that have worked in the past... -fork of the Thames downtown -below Springbank dam -train bridge in Greenway park (Carp/suckers) -Wonderland bridge The area near the golf course is not the best area to fish... if you wuold provide us with an idea of targeted species, I could be more specific... Nipissing Walleye fishery in 'crisis': OFAH

And now there is virtually no Pickereye run on the Thames... and I'm pretty sure what ALL of us want, is a healthy fishery... on all bodies of water... Nipissing has crashed before and it came back. We will not learn from past lessons... I feel bad for the generations who will miss out on such a fine lake. HH -

Unfortunately the NFN has very little they can legally do to stop their members from breaking agreements... there are no fines attached, only social repremands... which at the end of the day mean nothing, when you are feeding a family. And I will be the first admitt that the MNR has really dragged their heels with regard to Nipissing... I just wish I had a better feeling in my gut as to how this lake is going make it. HH -
So sorry for your pain Bruce... as well as the pain being endured by the many victums of this crime... HH

And a lifetime ban on driving! Ten years in jail would have been a more appropriate starting place. HH

I wasn't referring to you specifically in my post... not at all. And I completely agree with your last statement...all I want is the same. HH -

Unfortunately, I think it would have the same effect... all sides of the issue will feel the pain. How many of us would go to a lake that is only catch and release? Sure there are some very isolated lakes that are that way, but there are only a limited number of lodges on those lakes. They are typically "trophy lakes". A lake like Nip, with it's bordering cities, towns, camps and lodges would see their tourist dollars drop like a stone. As it is, I'm betting that the lodge owners on Nip are hurting as a result of the last number of years and the reputation the lake is now getting. How many members here now look elsewhere when they are planning a fishing trip. There is only one reason...they are not catching numbers or size anymore. HH -

The eb and flow of the lake never included netting spawning fish at the mouth of the rivers in the spring. The eb and flow of the lake never included a fish processing plant. The eb and flow of the lake never included netting through the ice. The eb and flow never created a dump of collateral fish, not worth processing. That's just off the top of my head. I have to wonder what the outcry would be if certain groups were allowed to net Simcoe... set up a fish processing plant in Barrie and have at 'er... one word decribes it... DISGUSTING! HH -

Banning walleye fishing on Nip would affect far too many folks, on both sides of the issue. The fact that NFN feel that it is ok to remove 660,000pds of walleye every year is more likely the problem. That number does not include the species that are not desirable, but caught in the nets. Does anyone really believe that anglers can come even remotely close to catching and removing that number of fish per year. My personal opinion, NFN missed the boat on this... if they really wanted a sustainable revenue stream, they should have used their expertese to lure anglers to their state of the art fishing/casino/lodge. That's sustainable! Instead, they built a fish processing plant. HH -

I am by no means any kind of an expert on anything... I know it's hard to believe, but it's true! That said, hasn't Nip stocks crashed in the past? Hasn't the lake rebounded in the past as well? So, let's have a look at what practices were in place... The first crash came not long after gill nets were used on the lake... gill nets were banned, the stocks came back up. Gill nets re-instated, stocks begin to deplete... and during both of these time frames, sport fisher types were plying the waters... You do the math! HH -

It's actually pretty simple... don't fish lower then 35 ft! I don't beleive that slow retrieve is gonna do anythng but prolong the inevitable... go fish for some bass until the Pickereyes are obtainable in non kill zone waters... This is no different than fishing below 30ft on Quinte in the fall, with the exception being the size of the fish. If catch and release is your goal, then don't fish kill zones. HH PS... come on Skeeter, you know that Lake Trout can burp! Pickereyes can't!
