Great day on the lake with good friends
Headhunter replied to fishnsled's topic in General Discussion
I got a call at home on Saturday afternoon at around 1:00pm... tales of wow for our friend Rubin. I immediately called his home and told his wife to get the chicken out of the freezer cause there wasn't going to be fish on the menu that night!LMAO! Thanks for the report Will and god love ya for letting Rubin long release those fish... and yes, I was jealous as I would have much preferred laughing at Rubin's mis-fortune, then cooking for the 40 people I had at my house that evening! HH -
And Skip, watch out for Miss Kelly's Chili! HH
-
I'm sure Terry and Wayne enjoyed that! HH
-
That would probably be a great vehicle BB, until of course you get those back tires wet, backing in your boat! HH
-
But only from shore Bill! LMAO HH
-
Gentlemen, this is frightening, and serious

I like my bacon rubbery... what ever you do, don't over cook it! And a huge plus for "homemade bacon, cut thick, medium rare or heck even better, just cut off the block! HH -
I'm surprised that you aren't going on about the two rod rule as well... HH

lol Lew... I think Sam had a few years on you... and some of the best music written was done in the 50's... heck, it's the basis on which everything afterwards is based... HH

Turkey bacon is a waste of perfectly good salt and smoke... not fit for human consumption... I could probably live without bacon (unhappily of course)but please, for the love of God, don't mess with my Prosciutto!!!!! Ok, who am I fooling! I just hope that they don't realize how much we would really pay, for our bacon fix!! HH -
lol Brian.... Remember, this is the same guy who heard the Beatles being played in his store and told them to take it off as the stuff will never sell! LMAO! Sam was an expert in what was called Pop music... except Pop music to him was the Rat Pack, Tony Bennett etc... he had no clue what so ever as to anything produced after 1965! RIP Sam... HH

Snidley, I fail to see the difference in perceived value between a fish caught out in the middle of the lake and one caught from shore... especially when you consider that those shore catches are being done during the fish's reproductive periods... But since YOU prefer to catch them from shore, the rest of us obviously are raping the resource... BTW- I kept one Bow this year... I bet you caused a lot more damage at a time when the fish are more vulnerable then I have... PS... try using a comma in your high brow verbal diarrhea... HH

Look for fallen trees that are submerged, bank side. Get right in there and drop a jig and worm between the branches... you'll have to weed out the WGSP and such, but you will get Pickereyes hiding in the fallen trees, using them as current breaks and ambush sites. HH

Sorry, but I simply don't care... they are not native, it is a put and take fishery so really, what's everyone getting their gitch in a knot about. HH

Sam's was my first job when I moved to Toronto from London in the late 80's. I worked there for just under a year. There is no arguing that Sam's had everything that was avaiable, in his flagship store on Yonge... yes he was an icon in Canadian music, but he was not a very good person to work for. Perhaps that's why he had the level of success he had... His business model was quite interesting... the flag ship store almost always lost money, but since he owned the distribution company that supplied all Sam's stores with product, he made money hand over fist selling product to his stores and franchiese coast to coast. Interestingly, his brother Sid actually owned multiple properties on Yonge Street, from Queen to Gerard. If your talking money, Sid had Sam beat handily. HH

I fished a Quinte Fishing Series tourney a number of years ago... it was like piss on a plate at blast off, so many made long runs to hit spots... launch was out of Trenton. As the day progressed, so did the wind... Big Bay was pretty angry by 2:00pm... came around the corner point of the bay to greet 5-6 footers... buddy's Targa 20ft boat, very deep V glass handled it pretty well, the two big bass boats that flipped end over end, not so well. Everyone was ultimately safe/rescued, but I think a few lessons were learned... Know your boat and know what the body of water your on can do, when it get's a little riled up! HH

Up and down... Yah, I'm here all week... try the Veal and don't forget your waitress! HH
-
No personal experience, but I hear that they can be gotten at night, off the docks by the Glenora Ferry... also, Picton Harbour, again at night... HH
-
What's the best rod for jelly fish? HH
-
East of the Glenora Ferry (Adolphus Reach) is considered Lake O and as such, two lines per fisherman. West of the ferry is considered Bay of Quinte... one line per person. HH
-
You now you are supposed to keep that bait a secret, right Geoff! LMAO HH
-
And one other thing... don't be afraid to run your baits shallow... 40 to 60 ft behind your board... especially in a Quinte chop! HH
-
Late October your best bet will be to launch in the Picton area as it's still early at that time of year. You will want to concentrate your efforts in the Adolphus Reach area and towards the cement plant just outside of Picton Bay. There are a number of launches available including Picton, McFarlins and the ferry. Where you launch will be dependant upon wind speed and direction that day. One thing Stoty has not mentioned is distance you run boards from the boat. You want to run your boards as far away from your boat as you can... 200ft +. Also, you will mark tons of fish on your graph, many well below 30 ft. Most at that depth are simply suspended and you are unlikely to get many to bite... plus, if you do, you will kill the fish. Look for fish above 30 ft, they are likely active and you should catch one... Also, if you can, avoid weekends as boat traffic will push the fish down... HH
