  1. Nice Bows man! The blue zone absolutely ROCKS! HH
  2. Reels - Diawa Sealine reels... price drop recently make them competitive price wise to the Okuma and they are IMHO 10 X the reel that the Okuma is! Rods: Shimano TDR 8-9 ft HEAVY action - under $50.00 and can be found for less than $30.00 when on sale. Also a good alternative rod - Diawa Heartland -You have to decide whether you want to run a mast system or inline planner boards... there are varying opinions on which is best -Some use no-stretch line on their board rods, with a floro leader, I personally run mono. - a lead core rod is a really good weapon to have -if your running dipsey's, use braid. -Scotty has a new rod holder out this year and it's composite construction makes it even strong then their previous holders... many prefer Salty's as they don't require drilling into yer boat! There are many more expensive reels and rods available to you, but I can't justify spending that money when you can get good quality equipment that will do the same job, for far less! HH PS... buy the Diawa Sealine 47LC!
  3. Way to go Beats! You've put in your time and are now reaping the rewards! Congrats man! I don't know where you were on the river and I don't wanna know! But I will say that you have earned your success! Congrats! HH
  4. Well Roger, I must admit that I am not at all surprised by this post... I've said it many times, you are the reason I go to BPS! You've just shown us all that I have been right the whole time! Kudos to you, the Daves and BPS for taking the time to help make a family happy. I understand some of the challenges the family faces as my son is also diagnosed as being "high function" autistic. It's hard work, but the rewards although different from most parents milestones in their kids lives are 2nd to none. You and your generous gesture have helped to reach a child who in all likelihood, has a difficult time reaching others. Thanks Roger... keep smiling! HH
  5. I found this place by clicking a link from Superdad's post on the Quinte site. I watched and did not post for a while, got the gears when I did and eventually found my place here. Met up with Fishnsled at a Ashbridges GTG, thanks Fishheadrick! Now include him as one of my friends and have met numerous folks since! A special thanks to Gerritt, for , well, being Gerritt! His kindness has been humbling and he to, has introduced me to some great folks! I have hung around though, mainly because of a rumour about a man in a Tutu! HH
  6. Happy B-Day Cliff! HH
  7. Nice work guys! Thanks for posting it Johnny! I'd say you guys had a blast! HH
  8. BAsed on your age, which I am assuming is still quite young, I have to agree with Lew and Joey. Burn out that youthful enthusiasm doing something you really like. You can always go back to school, and you may find yourself much more successful at school, after you have been there and done that so to speak, you may have an even better idea about what it is that you will eventually do. I have never seen a company hire a resume! I have never seen a company "hire a degree". They hire people and taking a year or two to "find yourself" or simply evaluate your options may put you in much better shape during the interview process as you will have had some REAL WORLD experience to draw from. Companies almost always prefer hands on experience and life skills are not something you can learn in school. HH
  9. I look forward to your reports... my morning smile! Thanks guys, keep up the good work and don't forget to get BBR a nice set of dish washing gloves... HH
  10. From my family to yours, my deepest sympathies. HH
  11. Congrats Brian and family... she's pretty flippin cute! Walmart sell the "Tigger" poles at the best price, but CTC has on sale from time to time... let the spoiling begin! Again, congrats! HH
  12. Way to go Bill! Catchin 'em Quinte style, I like it! Lookin forward to part two! HH
  13. I am shocked! I had been Pming Gary occasionally to find out how he was doing. I to, was under the impression that he licked the illness he had earlier this year and I stopped PMing... now, this news. I had only joined up to this board for about 6 months, when I posted that I was going to be in the Grand Bend area for a week and if any OFNer lived in the area and wanted someone to fish with, I'd be happy to join them. Well, Gary contacted me quickly. He lived in Lampton Shores, a short drive from where we were staying. We met up, I was introduced to his wife and his Amy, and off we went to chase some smallies. Now, here's a testament to the quality of man he was... the lake was angry that day. 3-4 footers rolling into the area that Gary fishes. I know for a fact that he would have turned around and gone home to his family if it weren't for me being there, but he said, what the heck Joe, this is the only open day I have to get out, so let's give it a try. We tried for a few hours, nothin doing, but the time I spent with Gary is time I will always remember. Gary had run his own businesses and had his feet firmly planted on the ground. He was the kind of person who you could ask for advice and know for a fact that the advice coming back would be sound. His love for his family was evident in every conversation. He shared his knowledge of props to anyone who asked. Man, I am still in shock... we've lost a good one. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. We will miss him. HH
  14. Hey Will, Thanks for the invite, sorry I couldn't make it, but sounds like you and yer Dad had fun anyway. Glad ya got somethin! HH
  15. Glad yer getting out Bernie! Very happy to see a fishin report from you... btw - I know that spot! LOL HH
  16. I watched a series put on by the Discovery Channel, called The Universe. It goes into some very detailed explanations about our current state of knowledge, with respect to our planet and it's neighbours. The 45 minute section on The Sun, can't be recommended enough! On a side note, I think the whole global warming thing should be renamed: "Fear and loathing on Earth" HH
  17. I think Al Gore is beginning to hire new scientists for "An Inconvenient Truth 2"! He's run out of the old ones! These are opinions, everyone has one and we have been through this a hundred times... Ps... the sky is falling! HH
  18. Nice, really nice smallie guys! When I read the post title, I would have bet that it was a big silver thing that goes Bahh, bah! LOL HH
  19. Congrats Roger! Now wipe that big grin off yer face cause I'm gettin really jealous here! Enjoy the fruits of your labour! HH
  20. I did not intend this post to turn into another opportunity for some to take uncalled for jabs at our U.S. friends. I am suprised that some have taken it to the extreme, well not really because it does take all kinds to make a community, but this communty is without borders in my mind and I simply wanted to wish those folks potentially in harms way good luck and best wishes. I mentioned the Out Door Life article because I found it a somewhat shocking, but again, not having ever lived in their shoes, I can't really say what I would do... except get my family the heck out of harms way. To our southern friends... please don't let some folk's attitude tarnish yours. And let your friends and family's know we are thinking about them. HH
  21. Well, it looks like Hurricane Gustov, is heading for New Orleans with a passion! Now, I think we all feel bad for the folks down there and what that certainly don't need is another weather disaster. What I found most interesting is that according to Out Door Life, the number one selling "disaster supply item" right now in the area is rifles! I can't imagine what these folks have gone through and I certainly do wish them the best through this on-going ordeal and the one pending... but rifles and ammunition!? You'd think plywood, water etc... HH GCD - keep yer head down and yer boats dry bud!
  22. TO my mind, it's only worth it if Rogers is working! Heck of a drive to see virtually the same things as you will find at LB's. And from a pricing perspective, you may find things cheaper locally. However, that being said, if you in the market for clothing, BPS is virtually 2nd to none in that department... I find their fishing department to be the same as any other fairly large retailer. On the other hand, if you wife is a "shopper", than Vaughn Mills mall is her Utopia! And as mentioned above, Momma happy, daddy happy! If you do go, make it a point to see if Roger (BPS Bassman is his board name)is working... you will know if it's him, he's the guy that walks around with a huge smile on his face all the time, because you know what, he likes his job and more importantly, he like fishing people! HH
  23. I love your reports brother! Keep up the good work and man, that smallie was a football! HH
  24. Emil, if your driving on the 401 and the overhead sign says "traffic is moving well for the next three interchanges" and you see a ton of brake lights in front of you, would you brake? Well yah, you would, but would you then blame the MTO for posting un-acua\rate info? The weather is an in-exact science, the best weather indicator is to stick your head outside and MAKE A JUDGEMENT CALL! I'm finding your comments about the weather service somewhat dis-heartening as it seems to me that you have not learned your lesson yet, after two tough outings. I truly hope that you step back and take an OBJECTIVE view of what your doing and saying. I'm not sure that the weather folks would be lining up to tell your wife that they made a mistake and that's why her husband and son weren't coming home! I can't tell you how many posts I've read here that clearly stated that the weather man got it wrong... or how many folks said they didn't go fishin because of the weather predictions. Most of the responses to those posts have been, well I don't listen to the weather man, I went anyway and we caught this.... I understand those folks, they are typically fishing a smaller lake of river. But when venturing out on the Great Lakes, weather reports are meerly a suggestion, YOU have to make the judgement call. If I may Emil, may I suggest you leave your little one at home until you learn better how to gauge your surroundings... YOu should have gotten the heck out of there right away. I can't see any other argument holding water in this one! HH EDIT: being paid public finds does'nt mean that those folks can't make a mistake, or things can't change...if everyone here posted about what they felt was not getting value for their government dollars, we'd have a completely different board!
  25. Well Emil, I'm glad you made it back ok... but, and I gotta say this, what in the world are you doing taking a 3 year old out on lake Erie in a sub 25ft boat, with an inexperienced 2nd mate. I would have thought that last year's adventure would have taught you something. I don't care how good your boat is, unless it's at least 25 feet, there's no way in hell I would take my 3 year old out there. It's one thing to take the risk for yourself, you can make choices, but a 3 year old doesn't have that luxery. Fishing any of the Great Lakes is a risk, sometimes small, some times big, but I just can't get my head around why after what you went through last year, you would do it again! Blaming the weather people for your lack of interpretation of the conditions may make you feel better, but I can tell you that there have been many times where I have driven to a lake, only to find conditions that were not callled for, but not safe to fish. Your job as the "captain" of your boat is first and foremost, the safety of your passengers. At the first sign of trouble, lines in, make our way back. Sorry if this doesn't sit well with you Emil or any of the other members, but I just can't sit here and have you bad mouth the weather folks, when it's actually YOUR CALL to gauge the conditions you are taking people out in. HH
