  1. Rick's thread about discussing the possibility of changing seasons, based on weather pattern changes got me ta thinkin (scary thought I know). What would I do if I was the Minister in charge of the MNR? Well, I would probably change the opening day of trout fishing to later in the year to allow the fish to do their thing without threat of being caught. I'd also increase, quite substancially the fines attributed to poaching. I can probably think of more, but I'll open it up to the forum and see what you good folks think. HH
  2. Kemper, I appreciate your thoughtful comments and I think we have more common ground here then un-common. I agree with you about the Lake fishers... in my experience, those fish simply don't stand a chance of surviving once hooked. I've seen Bows hooked in the blue zone, that have spit the hook after a few minutes, only to be found struggling to back back to their preferred temperature depths. I don't think they will make it. I don't have as many concerns about that aspect as, well it is a put and take resource, but I still find myself shaking my head at the way these fish are being treated while they are trying to reproduce. And successful reproduction means, IMHO, that our already stretched resources could be applied elsewhere... perhaps regulation enforcement. Kemper, it too bad that you feel the way you do about posting as I have always found your posts to be fair and logical... please reconsider your position as we could sure use a voice of reason like yours, around here more often. HH
  3. Because our elected officials always make the right deision, don't they? Especially when they are spending our money! This is a dicussion and only that... legality of it all is well beyond our ability to change, however our own actions are within our control. So many of us have a slow burn going in every spring with the activities of "a select few" who's rights allow them to do what the average person cannot. As anglers we get upset at preceived inequities. That mindset seems to completely disappear with regard to fish in the trout family and I for one simply don't get it. HH
  4. So you feel it's ok for my license money to be spent stocking the lake with Bow's so you can fish ditches? I'm not trout expert by any means, but I understand that the Ministry stocks Lake O with Bows as well as other trout. Would they have to do that if spawning fish were left alone to do their business? Would there be enough natural reproduction taking place? Could my money and everyone else's not be better spent on other species who's numbers have declined or who's habitat has been negatively affected by our expansion into their home? Each of us have our own perception of ethics, be they related to leasure time, business or what ever. Calling fellow sportman tree huggers for disagreeing with you is a reflection or your own ethics. HH
  5. Well, the weather not with standing, I find it head scratching to try and understand why we allow anglers to fish streams/rivers/tribs, whatever you want to call them, during the spawning season. We can't fish Pickereyes when they are up the rivers We can't fish bass while they are spawning We can't fish musky until after they have spawned We can't fish Pike until after they have spawned But we can fish for trout, who in all likelyhood are either about to spawn or have just spawned. And the folks who fish for them, tend to be the first people who will make a comment about how someone holds them "wrong" or places them on a sandy beach or what ever. IMHO, what is wrong is harrassing these fish while they are doing their thing. As some have mentioned before, catching fish in a 4 foot ditch is like shooting fish in a barrel. Yah I know it's legal and they "have a right to do it", but so what, again, in my very humble opinion, it's basically unethical. Sorry for the hijack Rick, but after reading this thread and viewing some of the recent trout "fishing" reports, I felt I had to air out my thoughts. Rick, you may be right about having to change some of the seasons to accomadate fluctuating weather paterns, I don't really know, but if it is to be done, I sure as heck know which season I'd be first looking at! HH Could someone please pass the marshmellows, I may need a bit of an energy boost to be able to absorb the flack I'm gonna take for this!
  6. My recipe: Clean and thoroughly wash them. I semi-boil them in salted water. I drain them, then spread them out evenly on a slightly greased cookie sheet. I add garlic, salt and pepper, then cover them with some grated Parmesian (sp) cheese. Put them under the broiler until the cheese is fully melted. Enjoy! HH
  7. No problem Radnine! I'm here all week... try the veal! HH
  8. There's some pretty good bassin water right in the area that the bear was shot! CPRI, just down the hill and follow the river down stream. I'm pretty sure there would be a lump in my pants had I been fishing that area of the river and had a bear approaching... HH
  9. Yup... what Big Buck said! Back way till you get to the 407 and you should be golden! BTW - I'd advise your BIL to pack an extra skirt, it might get cold out there that time of year! You could aslo ask him if his husband might be free for the entire weekend! HH
  10. Sorry Rick, but in my humble opinion, that is a bunch of crap! There are rules for the majority and then there are rules for a very small minority and there is no will politically to enforce the rule of the majority, on the minority. Big Cliff, my hats off to you bud! HH
  11. Well, I for one am gonna miss seeing you at BPS! My wife still comments years later what a great smile you have and how wonderful you are to anyone who meets you. The folks at FW have gained more than just another sale associate, they have all gained a great person and I'm sure a friend. Good luck to yah Roger and if I ever get to FW, I'll be sure to say hi! HH
  12. I'd "pelt" it with rocks and then high "tail" is outta there! HH
  13. Doh! I can't believe I forgot that one Wayne! Any time, is a good time! HH
  14. I have noticed, especially while I was working my way through my lurking stage, the following: -someone will inquire as to how to fix an aluminum boat -someone will ask what is the best reel for... -a spot is not just the name of your dog -the amount of beer consumed by OFC'ers could probably float many boats -there are way to many Hab fans here! -a white bucket is a terrible thing to waste -smiling while holding your catch is highly over rated -"crappie" is not just how we feel the morning after a GTG Feel free to carry on! HH
  15. Hey Bruce, Well, I don't know what happened, but I now find myself staying logged in without any problems! So far, so good! RE the great new ads... as my buddy's Dad used to say... "any port in a storm!" HH
  16. Thanks guys! And also, thanks to the RLTA for showing your true colours and helping me to decide to rent elsewhere this year. HH
  17. Ok... so I tried changing the skin to see if that would help me stay looged in here longer than 15 minutes... NOPE! Actually, it only allowed me to look at one thread then a message came up saying the page had expired... 30 seconds later! Rick, I do appreciate your efforts here, I know from experience that satisfying a huge user community can be difficult and time consuming, but please be aware that most of us here are not propeller heads and in all likelyhood, none of us would be upgrading our "old" technology unless and until WE HAVE TO... unfortunately it seems that OFC is forcing us to do so... I could reasonably understand that if this was a computer site, but this is a communty fishing site. Server challenges/security do not affect me and frankly, should be the responsibility of OFC's service provider, not the user community. There, I feel better now... carry on all, I shall get back to lurking! HH
  18. Congrats on the face time Stoty! I can't help but think that you heard this all day though... "Look at the colours on this one Stoty" HH
  19. I bet your nose grows Skeeter! HH
  20. Well, I have officially become a lurker! I won't sign in unless I am going to post... signing in a dozen times a day is starting to get silly... it seems that I am timing out in a very short amount of time and as my employer does require me to do some work, from time to time, I can't be refreshing every ten minutes (or what seems like only ten minutes)and having to sign in every time I want to see what's new, is very frustrating. So, it may not appear that I am here, but in most cases, I am, just not logged in any more. Is anyone else having this problem? HH
  21. Hey Brian, If you paid for the goods with Visa, you coul contact them and ask them to remove the piece from the bill as you are not satisfied with the service you received. I'll bet someone from Bad Boy calls you toot sweet after you get Visa involved. If you paid cash, I would start doing research on the net to identify the key players at Bad Boy, say a Regional Director and start harpin at him/her. HH
  22. Firstly, I thought you had trained those folks to take the garbage out! Man G, that's gotta hurt! My best suggestion is "fish whistles", but than again, that's always my first suggestion... Perhaps Mike can come by and sit down with yah and the two of yaou could put a dent in a keg of his home made brew!? Get better soon bud... as Will said, we got fishin to do soon! HH
  23. I would agree that competing with a government sponsored program is a no win situation for the small businesses in the area... however I do take exception to the comment about the Chip Wagon in Elk Lake... I thought they were great! This situation seems to my anyway as being very simliar to the CBC competing with private broadcasters for the Olympics etc... no really their mandate now is it!? HH
  24. Perhaps another solution... how about a "Supporting Membership" in order to post in the classifides? Say an annual fee of $10.00 or $20.00 and you may post away in the classifieds to your hearts content. It seems only fair to me that folks who are using the site to generate dollars, should help to pay for the right and privalige to do so. I know this system is in place at another, non fishing site I visit and it seems to be working very well, with a memebership about ten times what we have here. Ultimately I would probably pay to be here, but please don't tell TJ, he may be considering some renovations at home and.... HH
  25. Of course your younger than Terry... he's older than Dirt! Happy B-day bud! HH
