  1. So then if they are deterred from nesting because of humans presence then wouldn't they just move off to some other location and then be a problem there? Or could they just become accustomed to people bothering them and still hang out anyhow? Sounds like a wishy washy solution made to appease the lovers of this devil bird. Bring in the sharp shooters Then again, it may be easier to take the bird off of the federally protected bird list.
  2. pickerel rig/crappie rig and another example
  3. I remember too Dave when I had my first car gas was somewhere in the 58 to 70 cents an IMPERIAL GALLON! which was about 4.54 litres! I also remember drivers kicking up a fuss when it went up 1 to 2 cents a gallon. And too I remember just a few years ago I shared rides to work in Brantford with a fellow associate. I would stop at the Pioneer on #2 Hwy to Brantford, we were going through a gas price increase cycle at that time too, but it was up to the mind boggling price of 62 cents a litre!!! He said to me one day, "Did you ever think you would say 'Gee, 60 cents a litre sounds cheap!" Ha! Do I wish it was back to 62 cents now!
  4. Looks good! As you said the added weight in the bow would help to get her down when alone. And yes the possibility of it becoming top heavy could be a consideration and the fact that you have taken away some of the boats weight carrying capacity if you were to take along a couple of passengers, especially if they are on the heavy side. Just something to keep in mind.
  5. Actually the crunch hit home along time ago, I never fully recovered from the last recession. It did though teach me how to cope with setbacks. When this finally hits the rest of those that have been riding the gravy train WOW! It's going to hit them with both fists and both feet kicking like a world title champion! The debt load that most people are carrying is mind boggling. There are many that are going to learn a few harsh reality facts. Perhaps the best ammunition to fight a big downturn is to just shut off the radio and TV news and don't read the papers. The media only added fuel to the recessionary fire the last time. As for when it is going to hit? Soon, much sooner than most are ready for.
  6. No need to paint them. Just put in new windows, never have to touch a paint brush to the exterior again.
  7. Heard they have been hitting, not in great numbers, but they have been caught. Try to change your locations along the pier and up the river and you might find a few of them trying to get educated.
  8. Feel for the 2 guys getting hit by what was called "birdshot" by CH news. But hey, if indeed they were trespassing then they got what they deserved. I was confronted by a farmer when I was a kid, we were stealing cherries from his orchard. He surprised us when he came out of nowhere with a shotgun over his shoulder, took the bag of cherries from us and told us not to come back! Then said that we were dumb for picking the cherries from the perimeter trees as they were sour anyhow and were for baking pies. Kids will eat anything though and I loved sour stuff like lemons and green unripe grapes and apples. When my brother was a kid he got a shotgun full of rock salt in the butt for stealing corn, he like myself, never trespassed onto a farmers field again. Lesson learned. All that said, yes he the "owner" should give in and post it as private property. A warning shot over the head would be a better idea than filling the guys with shot. Crap! He could have hit them in an eye! Be interesting to learn the outcome of this.
  9. Only one way to win at the casino, go be entertained by watching the losers, bring enough money for the buffet and leave all debit cards, credit cards and remaining cash at home! It would be a miracle if anyone can actually effectively count cards at BJ. Eight decks with 2 not dealt out from the shoe makes it next to impossible. Then if you are on a table with the continuous shuffler forget it. Impossible. If you want to believe anything differently you are certainly welcome to think what you want but remember you are just another sucker for the casino. The only hope to increase your percentage is to follow the strategy by the book, and hope and pray that the rest of the players are following the same set of strategic laws. Been there done that, got the watch to prove it. Have fun but don't think you have a hope in h3ll that you will break the bank.
  10. Thanks GCD, mine is installed with the bottom of it just projecting below the hull maybe say an 1/8" or 3/16" I have tried tilting it up a little and down a little. Either way it sends a rooster tail up higher than the transom. BTW, dealer installed when the boat was new.
  11. Mine does the same thing, drives me nuts if I start paying attention to it, so I do my best to ignore it and not look back at higher speeds. A good tail wind and it sprays into the back of the boat. Hopefully somebody has an easy solution.
  12. So as long we stay at or just below the posted speed limit and are buckled up we can slurp back on a large cup of joe blocking our view of the road ahead and pile the car into the slower vehicle and that is safe? Coffee, eating, cell phones, speeding, no seat belts are all unsafe driving performances. I wish all a happy, safe and memorable long weekend. However thanks for the reminder about the crackdown and sorry to hear about your ticket, maybe your post has saved someone some aggravation or even a life.
  13. I and others on this board had the same charger from CT, well not this one but the intelligent charger, different colour case but made by the same company, looks the same with the same features. Many of us had problems with them and returned them to CT. I looked all over the house and garage for my receipt after there was a warning about these chargers on OFC and mine started to screw up. Then luckily I finally came across the receipt by accident back in March and got my $ back. Mdej if you can't locate the receipt take it back for an exchange. Before I found my receipt the guy working at CT told me to bring it back regardless as yes it had a 5 year warranty and they haven't sold them for that long so the length of ownership period can be proven by that fact. So a warning, KEEP YOUR RECEIPT! Tape it to the charger, tape it to the box, tape it to your forehead! Tape it somewhere where you can find it!
  14. Life lessons that are proven true daily! Good one Unc.B. If you can see both sides of the offending rivet(s) use 2 hammers, one inside and one outside of the boat. Hold the heavier hammer steady in place on one end of the rivet and tap the other end of the rivet with the other hammer and this will help to tighten them up.
  15. Garry2rs; I think you and I were thinking the same. Were we both thinking he was referring to the town of Dundas? I think he must be talking about #5 HWY which some refer to as "Dundas St." In my mind "Dundas St." is still known as #5 HWY. Mattones; you are probably getting the old wooden pier that runs along side the concrete pier on the Hamilton side of the canal. That structure on the bottom of the lake has ownership of many Little Cleos and a host of other spoons and lures.
  16. Great news Lew! Glad to hear of a positive experience. Hope your mother will be in fine health for a long time to come.
  17. Is that rig street legal? If it is WOW!
  18. Hers my list: Can't afford the gas Doing some yard work Have to go to work at 5:00 Too lazy to pull the boat out of the garage. Only slept about 3 hours last night and hoping to catch a few winks before I go to work Kind of fun listen to my neighbours down the street argue about the concrete one of them had poured yesterday And to those that went fishing today I'm going to be jealous at about 5:05 this afternoon just after I punch in and head down the stairs. Hope you had a good day!
  19. "A little bit-o-paradise" Beautiful location, I can already picture the log house there now.
  20. Haven't filled my 97 Aerostar up for months. I put about $38 into it a couple of weeks ago and it took the gas gauge needle all the way up to the high side of the 1/2 tank mark. Used to be about $54 to $58 to fill it....oh so long ago! I used to put in $20, $30 or fill it. Now I pay more attention to how many litres go into the tank rather than getting it to the even dollar. At Pioneer they alot their bonus points for every 10 litres purchased, so I take it to 20, 30 or 40 litres even, no more or no less. I want to get every penny in points I can out of them! Kind of a fun game to get it to land at exactly 20 litres If you go to Pioneer go to the even 10 litre level and take advantage of the points, my son uses them up after about $10 has been accumulated, saves him some gas money and I feel like I'm giving him something.
  21. My cousin had a 14' FG boat very similar to yours with the bow being covered, great place to keep spare lifejackets, things dry and out of the sun. His was made by a company in New Liskeard. Looks like an efficient fishing machine
  22. I say let the environmentalists spend a week camping on an island devastated by cormorants! Then send them back out for another week with a loaded shotgun and see what happens. These people don't realize that there is no natural check on populations, we have destroyed the predatory animals and now humans have to keep overcrowding of certain species in balance by as he said, "Reshaping nature." We now have a higher cormorant population than at anytime in recorded history and there is no other way to keep them in order.
