  1. If you do go riveted check out Legend Boats. one link to review and another another Everybody can say something good and bad regarding any product. It boils down to what you like personally. Lots of opinions around here about Tracker and Legend boats from both sides of the fence. What you will find are few bad comments about Lund, Lowe, Princecraft, Crestliner and Polar Kraft.
  2. Go walleye fishing... Or go bass fishing, like in this picture. Never targeted them but somedays I just can't keep them off the hook and they help to fill in an otherwise unproductive day.
  3. Would have made a hell of a surprise for someone if you had put it in the bait bucket!
  4. My first inclination is a letter to the head hauncho of the arena with a duplicate sent to the head person in charge of security. But they will stick together on the issue and good luck trying to get it resolved.
  5. ...you must have forgotten that everything north of the 49th parallel is backwoods country, you know that backwards place called Canucksville. Our government can't think that logically, guess their suffering from a case of beaver fever.
  6. We cannot help but to buy products made in China. Even N. American made items contain parts made in China. You will be hard pressed to find anything that is made here, the U.K, Germany or wherever that contains multiple parts and does not include some parts made off shore from their country of assembly. So as far as not buying a Chinese made car so what? Look under the hood of the car you have now and take a close look at some of the parts. Have you replaced the brake rotors on your car? Chances are that if you have they are made in China too. We have done this to ourselves as we are a bunch of cheapskates always on the lookout for a bargain. Item "A" is $29, item "B" is $19 and chances are we are going to buy item "B" even though it was made by some kid working 14 hours in a sweat shop and item "A" was made by the guy down the street who is trying to make ends meet on his factory pay. You know the guy, nice fellow, 2 kids, mortgage, car payments, says hi to you every morning when you pass by him. Hell he may even go fishing once in a while! Some of us need to climb down from our high horse and face reality. We are screwing ourselves and will pay the piper one of these days. All we are doing is helping the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Just wait until China has us all completely in their grasp and see what the world will be like. I am just as guilty of buying the cheap off shore crap as the next guy, however I do once in a while pay attention to what I am buying and if I can see why a locally made product does cost a few bucks more I will buy it instead. But I will not go to Sears, the Bay or whatever store and buy a shirt made off shore that I can buy at a cheaper store for less money. Same style, same material, same colour but double the price! Good luck to us all. And the next time you see that nice neighbour down the street waving good morning he may just be sitting there with a tin cup in his hand.
  7. Have a harmonious drive back to the border, but I think you're coming home too early. Stay a few more weeks and enjoy it.
  8. Consider this: Take both you and your wife's hourly pay rate and multiply it by the time spent commuting for a month and see what your answer is. Then only you can decide if the commute is worth it by putting a monetary value on your time. However your commute isn't that far in distance and I don't imagine you would be facing the nightmare of Toronto's rush hour. Wish I had a perk like this Gerritt: You lucky dog.
  9. Ah crap....you just hold 'em by the ears... like a bunny.
  10. Yep like Wayne said. Get 2 receipts from the seller, one for the trailer, one for the boat and motor as a package. I am assuming that the motor is 10 hp or greater because you are willing to register it. If 9.9 or less don't register it and pay no tax! You don't register boats with smaller hp rated motors.
  11. Guess we're all just in a pithy mood.
  12. I just got the words out of my mouth that I was not posting on this thread again. But you said it well HH :clapping: I just can't help myself but to add to the thread. The march continues.................................................................
  13. Now you went and done it! Not available up here, at least where I shop, so now you're going to have to bring some of those Americanized Italian bread crumbs north with you to Lakair for the gang to have a taste. Sounds good, betcha if you went and mixed a little Parmesan cheese in with the crumbs it would have a nice zing to it. Oh yeah, I had to vote for my own secret recipe because I've never tried the commercial ones. Might try Chronzie's one of these days, after all, a guy that eats as much fish as him must have some good ideas
  14. Love to see him French kiss a 30lb catfish. With that said, no, never have and would have to have drank a few wobblies before I could be talked into thinking about it.
  15. Oh boy....I can almost hear the lock's shackle being clinked open in readiness for a lockdown.
  16. That is irritating, you somehow run into these people all the time, and just about anywhere these days. Sometimes you get lucky! Really lucky! Got to watch loose clothing some have even lost their life because of it.
  17. We used to be business neighbours with one of the charities on your quoted list. The administrators drove Mercedes, the others also drove new cars. When they became sick of the office furniture they would toss it out in the trash and buy new, the old still very usable. In fact the computer I am using right now is on one of those desks they threw out, I have had it now for about 8 years. Yes It certainly appears that charities are a racket when you look at the facts you have presented. I wonder what the donation givers your friends collected from would think if they knew the money was being pocketed? So you are saying then too that they keep 90%, turn in 10% and the charity pockets 90% of the 10% they turned over? WOW
  18. My dumb mistakes list: Forgot the plug, walked back to the launch after parking to find my son in shock and rear corner of the boat pulled up onto a sinking floating dock. Forgot the stern was still tied down to the trailer and couldn't figure out why the boat wasn't floating off the trailer. Forgot to plug the emergency shut off cord in....many, many times this has happened. Forgot to take the motor out of gear before trying to start. To add salt to my wound I was told by a guy with a $60,000 glittery bass boat waiting to launch! Started the motor in gear! Just out from my parents Lake Erie cottage years ago taking dad's 9.9 out for the first time ever by myself. (It started in gear, guess there was no safety device back then) Scared the crap out of me heading for the rocks at full throttle! Backing into my parents driveway, the trailer and boat were OK, but my van's tail light took the brunt of a steel fence post. Forgot to hook up the gas line. Just some of my own small incidents that made me feel really dumb. But the best place to watch a show has to be the downtown Orillia boat ramp. There is a great board walk to stand and watch the activities from and if you are lucky there is a park bench on the grass. Sit back, relax and laugh at the comedy in comfort.
  19. Sounds like you got a heck of a nice boat! Congratulations!
  20. I just remembered something else I have been told. When you arrive at the ramp let the trailer sit for a period to let the bearings and hub cool down some. With heat comes expansion, the hub hits the cold water, shrinks and water can enter into the bearings. Don't know if it helps or not but sounds logical. Usually you have to wait for a few minutes at the ramp anyway or have to load up and that in itself may allow enough time to cool down.
  21. Nice witty comment 4reel, I was only answering in response. If you were to read my earlier post in regards to this thread I stated that my lights are seldom burning needlessly and to add to that my hydro bill is the lowest of most people I know. I for one don't need to have to follow along with turn your lights off for one hour on a Sat. evening. I don't need to be a lemming following the crowd I have been setting the trend in my own home for years. This event accomplished nothing. Well OK, maybe something, it proved that some people cannot do without lighting for an hour.
  22. I used 8 lb. Stren Fluorescent for years on my spinning reel without a problem, stayed limp and didn't twist all that much. I found that a ball bearing swivel greatly reduced line twist while trolling. I used the same line for cats on the Grand, eyes on the Grand and pike when up north. Never had a problem with breakage or loosing a big one. If it did start to twist up do as said, no weight, lure, hook or any hardware, let your line out behind the boat and drag the line behind. The line will untwist and be good as new. Also, make sure there isn't too much line on your spool. This year I spooled up with Power Pro 15 lb, a birthday gift from my son.
  23. Maybe all who did as asked, dimming their lights, are nothing more than a bunch of lemmings trying to find the edge of the cliff. Just an assumption...
  24. Pretty much like Fisherman said about launching. Mine though is a 16' tinny with a 25hp on it. If solo I tie the bow line to the winch post when I get to the ramp, then back it in enough for it to float off and then pull ahead, carefully, go to fast and you can tighten the rope up and smash your boat into the bunkers. If my son or wife is with me then they just stand on the dock and handle the bow line and possibly the stern line. Pull away and park and don't take too long. Reloading; back up grab the bow line and pull it square on the bunkers and balance myself on the trailer between the winch and bow, snap the winch rope on and crank it up. Pull out of the way to a safe spot, tie it down, tie the cover on and home to the garage. Oh yeah, if you have worms on board and you cover it up or garage it don't forget the worms. They stink like you wouldn't believe in the heat after a week! Don't know how many times I've forgotten them. The important thing is don't tense up, ignore the audience standing next to ramp watching your comedy fiasco unfolding before them and get the heck out of the way for the next boat. Try practicing at a mall parking lot when it is closed or in an area that is wide and open. Try backing up for a distance and keeping it straight, try backing into parking spaces, but don't forget that everything you learn in the parking lot won't always work on a ramp. When the trailer is on a different slope than the tow vehicle all the rules you just learned can change and the trailer just won't respond the same way. Same can be true when backing it into your driveway up the sidewalk ramp. And don't forget to unplug the trailer lights when going into the water and remember to plug them back in before you pull away.
  25. I think that it was on the local TV news that Hamilton was taking part. My lights are usually off anyhow, except for maybe a fluorescent light on the kitchen stove and sometimes a 60w table lamp in the living room and the TV of course and my puter hasn't been turned off in weeks. So maybe I'll turn off the stove light the puter and watch the usual nothing worth while on the idiot box. There will be one outcome from this hour in darkness, the maternity wards will be busy in 9 months. Just in time for this guys arrival
