Are they any Salmon around fisherman's pier In Hamiton/Burlington?
pikehunter replied to ShaneD's topic in General Discussion
I would say so, I don't like to get over that wall and I imagine many others feel the same. Also be careful from that wall to the shoreline. There is an old wooden pier sunk along there and if you snag it say good bye to another cleo. Crap there has to be a thousand of them hooked it it. When the water clarity is good in the daytime you can see it down there. Best of luck . You could also try the wall along Spencer Smith Park, although the days of free parking are now long gone. -
OH NO! Not this again. OH NO! Not this again. OH NO! Not this again. OH NO! Not this again. OH NO! Not this again. OH NO! Not this again. OH NO! Not this again. OH NO! Not this again. OH NO! Not this again. Don't like it, well...you know.

I just opened an Email and thought that the poem at the bottom was good enough to pass along to other OFC'rs. Don't want to create a hoopla about the Carbon Tax, I just thought the poem was good. Have a good weekend everyone and catch some fish! I have to work and as I'm in my 5th day of an 8 day work stretch don't have the time to enjoy the great weather. The Carbon Tax. Politicians have, in the past, used that old bull%#$@ phrase of 'cutting taxes' to get you to vote for them. Now, Stephane Dion, has come up with a new wrinkle on that old lie : Tax your heating oil and anything else you burn to move your food and everything else that you have always had in your life... but, he'll lower your income taxes. CONSIDER THIS from a one person who has bothered to do the homework: When a politician's lips move, I know he's probably lying. Mr. Dion says his carbon tax will be revenue neutral. So, I went online and found a carbon calculator and keyed in the annual energy consumption for our household and learned we produce 17 tons of greenhouse gas. Fully 60% of this usage is for electricity which we use to heat our home. I have already improved insulation in my walls and replaced my windows and doors; use the new 'twirley' lights and ensured that my appliances are all Energy Star products. In the past 20 years, these measures reduced my electricity usage from 24,000 Kw Hrs per year to 16,000 Kw Hrs per year last years. What is my reward for this improved efficiency? My power bill is unchanged from what it was 20 years ago. But, my power bill would attract a carbon tax of $104 in year one of Mr. Dion's plan and $ 416 in year four. My power bill would rise from $166 per month to $210 per month in year four. Since I live on a fixed income consisting of CPP and Old Age Security, my income tax bill runs at less than $200 per year. So, for my household, Mr. Dion's 'revenue neutral' carbon tax will cost me $416 per year less income tax reductions of about $10 per year. Revenue neutral? In a pig's eye! This is a tax on seniors living on fixed incomes. Well, Mr. Dion, you haven't got a snowball's chance in hell of ever getting my vote. I hope everyone else takes five minutes to run the same calculations I did and vote to send this joker to the political boneyard. Jon C. Coates - 70 Ridgevalley Rd. - Halifax, N.S. - B3P 2J9 Factual data substantiating this: 16.96 tons 60% of this is for electricity or 10.4 tons/year @ $10/ton in year 1 = $104 or $9/mo @ $20/ton in year 2 = $208 or $18/mo @ $30/ton in year 3 = $312 or $27/mo @ $40/ton in year 4 = $416 or $40/mo Income tax paid is $110/yr. DON'T BUY INTO THE CARBON TAX ! DON'T BELIEVE ANY POLITICIAN FROM ANY PARTY! PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK IN CANADA . The Tax Poem At first I thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of it. Be sure to read all the way to the end! Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table At which he's fed. Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes Are the rule. Tax his work, Tax his pay, He works for peanuts Anyway! Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat. Tax his ties, Tax his work, Tax his dirt. Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think. Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries Tax his tears. Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find other ways To tax his ass. Tax all he has Then let him know That you won't be done Till he has no dough. When he screams and hollers; Then tax him some more, Tax him till He's good and sore. Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in Which he's laid. Put these words Upon his tomb, 'Taxes drove me to my doom...' When he's gone, Do not relax, It's time to apply The inheritance tax. Accounts Receivable Tax Airline surcharge tax Airline Fuel Tax Airport Maintenance Tax Building Permit Tax Cigarette Tax Corporate Income Tax Death Tax Dog License Tax Driving Permit Tax Excise Taxes Federal Income Tax Federal Unemployment (UI) Fishing License Tax Food License Tax Gasoline Tax ( too much per litre) Gross Receipts Tax Health Tax Hunting License Tax Hydro Tax Inheritance Tax Interest Tax Liquor Tax Luxury Taxes Marriage License Tax Medicare Tax Mortgage Tax Personal Income Tax Poverty Tax Prescription Drug Tax Property Tax Provincial Income Tax Real Estate Tax Recreational Vehicle Tax Retail Sales Tax Service Charge Tax School Tax Telephone Federal Tax Telephone Federal, Provincial and Local Surcharge Taxes Telephone Minimum Usage Surcharge Tax Vehicle License Registration Tax Vehicle Sales Tax Water Tax Watercraft Registration Tax Well Permit Tax Workers Compensation Tax STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY? Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middleclass, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What in the hell happened? Can you spell 'politicians?'

Could it be the tread depth? New tire has no wear and your existing tires have been worn. Don't know just a thought at 4AM.

I don't get it??? On Wednesday the news report said that pump prices had dropped and gas prices were to go down to about $1.10 per litre in a couple of weeks....I see the news last night and they now say that prices are going up!!! This the very day after they say it's going to drop further!! What a load of bullcrap!! BTW, I made it to the Pioneer before the hike and paid $1.21/L. After a 20 minute wait in the line up.

Very sorry to here of your uncle's passing. From the look on his face he really enjoyed the trip to Lakeair. It's never easy to say goodbye to those you are close to. Remember him well and he will always be with you.

We've lost one of the nicest people on the board
pikehunter replied to Roy's topic in General Discussion
Wow! I am shocked! Just like many of us here I didn't realize Gary's time was about up. Although I never had the honour of shaking Gary's hand I had the great fortune of receiving and sending several PM's with him over the years. I feel a friend has been lost and I shed a tear for him this morning. May you rest peacefully and catch many, many fish in your everlasting fishing adventure you have just begun. -
I looked into the Legend 16' hull which the Legend Prosport 16 is based on when I bought my Lowe in 2005. Legend took this basic "Tinny" hull and added a floor to it and removed the bench seats, this is not the same hull as their 15' boat, the 15 is wider and deeper. They then added a console and navigation lights a year or 2 later to make it look like it's bigger brother boats in the Legend line up. Why I didn't I buy the Legend? The hull is advertised as .100 but the sides are thinner, this is a gimmick to make the buyer think he is getting an overall heavier hull. Then I took a look at the gunnels, they are narrower than the Lowe boat and would flex quite a bit when I pushed the gunnel inward and this made me reconsider. Then there was the attitude of the idiot son of the owner who is or at least was working at that time in Barrie Legend store. Then there was the fact that the shipping and rigging is not included in the advertised price which is price deception. However, the 25hp 2 stroke will move this hull along fairly well, at least the basic bare bones version. Since the model you are considering does have the added weight of the floor (This model weighs 508 lbs. where as the basic tinny version weighs 290 lbs.) you perhaps should consider a horsepower upgrade over the 4 stroke upgrade. The 30 hp 2 stroke is only $399 more than the 25 according to the website. Oh yeah, the 1667T Lowe hull which is equivalent to the Legend 16' weighs in at 365 lbs. and it is .72 thickness throughout. How does Legend explain the heavier weight of the Lowe when the hull of the Legend is supposedly heavier? I wish you the best of times with your new boat and many happy hours doing this

Yep, like was said, you have a chance of catching about anything there. This time of year just be happy to hook onto anything at Pt. Maitland. About 3 weeks ago we had great luck in the lake fishing for smallies from the boat, first one caught was over 20". Last week I tried again but nothing and didn't see too many people fishing from the pier or at the adjoining park. One of these days I gotta get my pictures downloaded so I can post. Just so lazy lately.

Today we lost a good friend and avid fisherman

Very sorry to hear of the news. I first heard it last night on the TV news and right away hoped it was not a board member. My thoughts and good wishes to his family and friends. -
Have a great time at Elk Lake hope the black flies and squitters have died down by now.

Very sorry to hear of your mother's trouble. I would refuse to pay the balance, let him threaten all he wants to, the law will be on your side as he is unscrupulous! Being involved in the replacement window and door business in some form or another for about 18 years now I hate these a holes that sotize the industry. There are many good reputable installation companies out there and stories like this put the industry back to the 60's (See Danny DeVito's movie the Tinmen) movie deleted scene Also check this out for information Siding and Window Dealers Association of Canada Never, ever buy anything from anyone at the door. Or even the phone for that matter. Check the BBB, referrals and ask lots of questions before you ever sign a contract. Remember too that in Ontario there is a cooling off period for contracts signed in the home, I believe it's 7 days, 10 days or maybe 14 ? I forget exactly how long right now. Let the local paper be aware of these A holes and get the word out around town. Don't give into them! Thanks for posting this as you may have saved someone somewhere from falling into the same situation.

Now that you have brought the subject up I have to say that what I saw in Myrtle Beach a couple of weeks ago surprised me. It was early evening, just as the sun was setting. A female was surf fishing on the beach in the hotel strip. It was fairly busy with kids and teens in the water and kids with skim boards. Actually 2 of the kids splashing around was her own and were not more than 4 feet from where her line entered the water. With the wave action I have no idea how she could know exactly where the action end of her line was. I was concerned but kept my mouth shut. Oh yeah, by what she said her target was small sharks, a species that you are asked not to fish for.

Do you like your family and friends? If you do then drop the idea of hooking up with them instantly! This outfit is not new, they have been around along time, in fact they are the re-formation of another pyramid type outfit that was forced to close down. I had an office about 16 years ago and 2 guys in the office next door were into Primerica. They sat on the phone all day, day in and day out making cold calls. They were ruthless in their tactics trying to get people interested in coming out to a seminar. The main prey at that time was the vulnerable people in our society, those a little down on their luck, unemployed or just not making enough money, people who were easy to sway. I was also on their hit list. Day after day one of them, usually the ring leader, would pop in with a grin stretching from ear to ear and always started up with friendly banter and then the strike would come! I should have tossed him out the first time as he was invading my territory and never had any intention of ever buying anything from me but was trying to sell me on their scheme. I did eventually go to a "seminar" but only out of curiosity as I wanted to see if I could learn anything new. What a mistake! as this made the daily office visitations from them even more grueling. If you value your friends and family do not join up with them, run the other way and screen your phone calls for a long time to come. Once in they will pester you to get every single soul you know or encounter to buy into their nasty little scam. You will no longer look at people as people but as victims! I know I said earlier they prefer to focus on the vulnerable but they will stop at nothing! Every person that can talk and or hear is considered game. And every one that gets dragged in has the potential of inviting in at least 25 more into the black widow's web. The only good part of teaming up with them is you can learn some ruthless hard sell tactics and become a little thick skinned to rejection. Be careful about anything that sounds too good or easy.

Yep Mike the above guys prob hit the nail on the head. Had similar trouble a couple of times with old gas and last year even with new gas as I kept topping up the tank and water managed to form in the bottom although I had been using Johnson/Evinrude fuel stabilizer I still had a problem arise.

I can understand your concerns about people fishing your dock, after all it would be the same as if one was fishing from their boat and some moron flies over and starts casting under it. If that happened to me I'd be pretty p --- off. As for hooks left behind from snags that is something that I have always considered to be bad and that is why if I choose to fish an unoccupied property/dock I am careful and with that in mind I often don't even bother to try it. Can you picture a kid getting a hook in his/her foot, hand or leg? How would you feel? I know I would feel terrible to have been the cause of it. Fishermen have to remember that docks are not only fish magnets but they also draw in the kids. Be careful. All the same if you are not at the cottage, how would you know if someone fished your dock? Just don't get too upset over the issue, keep your head straight and remember the water under or around it is not yours. Ask passing fishermen be careful and not to fish if occupied. That said just watch out for the know it all big headed morons with attitude problems.

I feel sorrow for the victim and his family. None at all for the a hole with the knife. The cops should have shot him point blank and the one who shot the fatal round should be rewarded. I have no use for people like that and society doesn't have room for them either. The court system will get tied up for years over this and he will be walking the streets sooner than you can say hang him! Sure some can say the guy is deranged and needs sympathy I say just get rid of them. Just my opinion. If anyone is offended then so be it because I too am offended by bleeding hearts.

Thanks for the well wishes and all the helpful advise The bags are packed and the van is itching to hit the highway, really it is, honestly! After driving it for almost 300,000 kms I have learned to read it's emotions. (Nuts eh?) Flying to Myrtle Beach isn't an option because of the budget plus none of us have passports and it would most likely actually cost more to fly to MB than it would to take a Florida vacation package. So it's on the road in the early A.M. Cheers to all

I haven't been to Myrtle Beach for well over 17 years. I have done the typical internet route searches, Google, Mapquest and Rand McNally for directions from Fort Erie/Hamilton to MB. Two of the 3 give a shorter time route down 77, 76 and some state roads. McNally says to take the Eastern route to DC and take the Beltway around it. Years ago I took the Eastern route. I know it is longer but just wondering which is better in the way of highways and terrain. I will be taking it easy on the old /97 Aerostar but this trip will put a strain on it, with the rear seal just starting to leak oil I am leary on even taking it this far and with this in mind we may just end up staying closer to home but my wife and PH JR has a more distant, exotic destination in mind and I have promised him a family vacation for several years. Thanks for your input and I will hopefully report back with some fishing pictures.

Time Share Cottage Ownership Question (NF sorta)
pikehunter replied to steve_paul's topic in General Discussion
Stay away from this concept! In fact, walk away, no run away, run as fast as your feet will go! What you are implying is as said a "Private time share" arrangement. Or in other words a sort of "Co-Op", Co-operatives work on the basis of all members doing their own fare share of the work, upkeep and management of a said property or venture. Very few actually succeed because there is always, I repeat always at least one member that does not share the load and rides on the goodwill of the others. Someone is left holding the bag. Written lawyer drafted documents that spell out all responsibilities don't mean a thing when it comes down to the everyday stuff. Tell that to your spouse when you arrive for your week at the cottage for rest and relaxation and the bathroom is a mess, the kitchen is up side down and the grass is 2 feet tall! The last "partner" that used the property also took advantage of your boat that you left behind for your next visit and ran it into a rock and he thinks oh well that's OK, it was only an accident. This doesn't even cover legal or financial obligations. I can understand how the concept sounds good but it has a 90% chance that someone is going to get left out on a limb. I have had experiences with Co-Op living and this knowledge that I learned the hard way says don't even think about it! RUN! -
I have one thing to say. "Why?"

We just call it hydro because most of us are to lazy to say electric or electricity, just too many letters and syllables to pronounce so to say hydro is much easier and faster. Well actually YES! In my neck of the woods the hydro, water and sewer charges, (which is a scam paying for water you already used.) comes detailed on one bill but totaled altogether into one amount on the bottom line. I have one sitting right here right now nagging me to pay it, the bill is about $185 for 2 months.
