  1. Are you referring to the ones that you sit in and paddle with your feet? The OP is planning to build a boat that he can spend the night in... I don't think you'll find too many boats suitable for overnight accomodation for $300.
  2. The boat will need to displace its own weight. I.e. a 1,000 kg boat needs to displace 1,000 kg of water. One litre of water weights one kilogram. Calculate the volume of the pontoons in litres and that is how many kilograms that they can support. I would allow for a pretty generous safety factor. You also have to keep weight distribution in mind; otherwise you could submerge the back end without exceeding the total capacity of the boat.
  3. My parents received a similar call (the virus one, not the shot gun blast). Luckily they didn't fall for it. It must be quite common.
  4. Canadian Tire has the TomTom 540s on sale for $119 (regular price is $219). Is anybody familiar with this unit? I am not too familiar wiht GPS's; another customer there recommmended Garmin's instead. By the way, the flyer showed the unit on sale for $139 but the Leslie/Sheppard store had them listed at 119. Their computer showed that they had 13 in stock but they couldn't find them. I did get a rain cheque.
  5. There was mention on Q107 this morning that Markham may get an NHL team? I highly doubt the info but was wondering if anyone else had heard anything.
  6. Check the gaskets on your drain screws. One of the screws on mine didn't have a gasket.
  7. I wouldn't just assume that she can change the locks because you were allowed to. Her situation my be different that yours.
  8. Our gate swings out like a normal door. I am not sure if there are any other gate options for a RAV4. I think that you could open the door at least part way on most trailers. You may be able to open it all the way if the trailer has a long tongue.
  9. Are you sure that it is a four stroke? I wasn't aware that BRP made a four stroke outboard. I checked their web site and it only mentions E-Tec; nothing about four strokes.
  10. If it was within the last five years then it was volunteers, not the MNR. All of the salmon stocked on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario in the last five years were raised by Metro East Anglers and other volunteer groups. Starting next year the MNR will take back the Chinook stocking and most likely end the coho stocking. It will most likely be back to day time stocking for salmon then.
  11. In my experience the starter motor will still engage with the kill switch disconnected. The motor just won't start. Throttle switch could be the answer though. I would check the battery connections first; clean terminals, make sure red is connected to positive and black to negative. I often had similar problems that would be solved by loosening and then re-tightening the battery connections.
  12. Trimming the belly fat is a good way to reduce your intake of pesticides, PCB's etc.; however, it doesn't helo with mercury which accumulates in the flesh. I would be more worried about chemicals than mercury for Lake Ontario fish. Mercury is more of a problem up north in the shield lakes where nobody thinks contaminates are an issue.
  13. Is it a cable steer or power steer? If it is cable steer make sure you have enough slack in the cable for the motor to turn.
  14. I wouldn't be so quick to predict the end of the Liberal party. There was a lot of dislike for Ignatief and a lot of people didn't like the fact that someone who have been out of the country for 30+ years was leading the party. I predict that with a new leader they will easily beat the NDP and maybe the conservatives too. I think these results are one shot deal for the NDP.
  15. Cannis Bay and Pog Lake are probably the two most secluded of the drive to sites. I think Cannis Bay is a slightly nicer spot but Pog Lake probably has better canoeing. Both these two sites have full comfort stations (bathrooms, showers, laundry, etc). There are paddle too sites available as well. If you want to see a good lookout without too long of a walk try walking the Hardwood trail backwards (the look out is close to the end of the trail). There are nicer lookouts but they require a bit more time to get there.
  16. I think it has more to do with reduced demand due to the collapse of our manufacturing sector. How about coal fired plants ... or were they all shut down in 2007?
  17. I do recall reading that the Georgian Bays do get a very small run of spring Chinooks. I understand that they get both spring and fall runs in B.C. Did you happen to notice if they had adipose clips?
  18. Re: Planner boards

Are the Invader Side trackers in-line or will I need a mast? Where are you located? I line in Scarborough and work in North York.

  19. I am sure they were referring to chain pickerel, not walleye
  20. I am fine with the word 'unless'; it is the word "not" that I have trouble with
  21. Jarvis St. in Toronto had a similar idea controlled by lights... Miller decided that he would rather have bicycle lanes... the city need the bicycles lanes because the closest set of bicycle lanes was a wopping 300 metres away on Sherbourne.
  22. A colleague of mine was told that it would cost $7,000 to replace the battery in a Prius. I am not if she had accurate information or not.
  23. How is that going to decrease demand? You will just have to fill up more often.
  24. The impeller will spin in the same direction regardless of whether the motor is in forward, neutral, or reverse; so you should get water regardless of gear your in.
  25. If there house is zoned as residential then it is probably not legal for them to rent out space. Having said that, by-laws are usually only enforced on a complaint basis. If they get along with their neighbors they probably won't have to worry about the by-laws. Another concern is insurance. Can they get insurance to cover loss or damage of their cutomers boats? What impact will renting out space have on their house insurance?
