Cobourg fishing meeting with the Parks and Rec Wednesday
Ron replied to Ron's topic in General Discussion
Wow, Talk about getting the run around. Firstly, I was under the impression this was going to be an "informal meeting". When we get there, it is in a board room with all the Parks and Recreation committee members. Not that I wasn't prepared, but it didn't go off as smoothly as anticipated. Once I gave my brief presentation, Dawn from the OFAH also gave information as to the reasons why angling should be allowed in the harbour. The response from the committee? "Why are you taking this up with us? You should be speaking with the Town council".... Yet, the one on one "on site" meeting with a committee member is the one who suggested we discuss this with the P&R... The final outcome you ask? They suggested I speak with their advisor who is reviewing the bylaws. I asked for the name of this person, their reply was "We don't know, we haven't hired them yet. The tenders won't be opened til mid January". So here it stands, at idle til after the Holiday season is over. Cheers, Ron... -
That's my buddy Chris. He caught that on the Ganny a couple of weekends ago. You should see my other buddys Giant Pike he caught on the French River. The above are nothing though, you have got to see the Sturgeon caught on the Groundhog River near Timmins by us OFNers. I think Terry still has that picture somewhere. Cheers, Ron...

$4,500 Fine For Humber River Salmon Poacher NEWS December 12, 2011 A Toronto man has been fined $4,500 for illegal salmon fishing at the Old Mill Dam on the Humber River. Stephan Tymchyshyn, of Etobicoke, pleaded guilty to charges under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and the Ontario Fishery Regulations. In addition to the fine, his fishing licence has been suspended for two years and his fishing equipment has been permanently forfeited. Previous fishing convictions were considered in handing down this sentence. The court heard that on the evening of October 8, 2011, Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers found Tymchyshyn fishing in the Humber River immediately below the Old Mill Dam, in an area that is closed to fishing. Tymchyshyn was found to be in possession of illegal fish snagging equipment and two pails of fish roe. Justice of the Peace David R. Keilty heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto, on December 1, 2011. Migratory fish, such as rainbow trout and salmon, are vulnerable to poaching when they congregate in the pools at the base of dams while moving upstream to spawn. Signs posted at the Old Mill Dam remind anglers that no fishing is permitted within 60 metres downstream of the dam. To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time or contact your local ministry office during regular business hours. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Hey all, Just a quick update about my meeting with the Town of Cobourg Parks and Rec committee. Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, Mike Brown and myself will be having a general meeting with the town on Wednesday afternoon to discuss what I hope to be viable options for fishing within the Cobourg Harbour. I just want to thank OFAH and also Mike for stepping up and giving much needed support to ensure that people will still be able to fish in the Cobourg Harbour. I will be sure to give an update on this matter after the meeting. Cheers, Ron...

You don't need gloves at all with these unless it is really really cold. Your hands won't sweat in them either.

Thanks Terry, I will have to look into this and see if I have an application for this product for work as well. Cheers, Ron...

Thanks Terry, Now, that underwater camera that pans 360.... where did you get this, and how much was it? This sounds a whole lot more usefull for what I want. Cheers, Ron....

Hey all, Does anyone have or has tried the remote underwater camera tripods? I am thinking of picking one up for ice fishing as I have noticed in the past, you can have the camera set up and either a fish swims by or when you hook into a fish the camera swings and then have to spend a fair amount of time setting it back up to get your field of view again. So, if anyone has any experience or preferences on which brand to get, where to get them, that would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Ron...

I am glad you renewed nofish4me. I had a doubts a few times as well, for the most of it, I think they do a great job representing the angler and hunter. Sure there may be a few items or agendas I don't agree with, (at the moment, I can't think of any), but I strongly believe in what they have done for stream rehabilitation and scientific data which was collected through the Atlantic Salmon Project. Having OFAH support on the issues with the Cobourg Harbour is just icing on the cake. Cheers, Ron...

Just curiuos as to the new gear people have picked up for Ice fishing this year. I have down sized my hut from the Clam Yukon to the lighter weight and smaller version Frabil DLX Trekker. As I have been spending most of my time fishing for Crappie on the Kawarthas, I have also purchased a portable hand held "inspection camera" by Milwaukee. Well, the camera is for work, but I sure am excited to try it our through the ice! So if you know of anyone that is interested in buying my Clam Yukon, it's up for sale. I have already erased all the X's on the side of it though, so you won't know my Fishing spots. Well, what did you guys get?

So sorry to hear this news Mike. Having only met your father a few times, it was very easy to see where you got your humour from. He was a great man, husband, father and grandfather. Most of all though, he was a great friend to everyone who met him. Your family will be in our prayers tonight. Your friends Ron, Terri and the kid who let Jade win the Mike Swan trophy.

OFAH comes on board with the Cobourg Harbour fishing
Ron replied to Ron's topic in General Discussion
Thanks Roy, No groups or clubs were asked for help prior to the MNR asking me to give a brief presentation at one of the advisory council meetings. Exactly Dave, It is rather unfortunate we have to go through all this just so kids can fish. As the Cobourg Police Chief said "I would much rather see 3-4 kids fishing at the harbour rather than 3-4 kids getting into mischief". -
Hello all, Some great news! Mike Brown and I will no longer be challenging the fishing bylaws in the Cobourg Harbour alone. I had an informal site meeting with representatives of OFAH and they have openly offered to work with us to ensure there is still fishing allowed with in the Harbour. Personally, this has taken a great load off my back. I look forward to the day of seeing kids not being harassed for fishing from the pier. Our first meeting with the Cobourg Parks and rec committee will be held on Dec 14th, lets hope all goes well from here on through! Thanks Mike for your guidance in the right direction to move this forward. Cheers, Ron...

So, here I am enjoying my lunch and a knock on the door is heard. Low and behold Big Cliff is at my doorstep hand delivering a sample bottle of "Nok Out". He claims to say he was just in the neighbourhood but I know differently, he wanted to meet the famous Ron! ha ha ha Cliff gave me a quick demo on this product, I must say, it has many more uses than just odour control for hunting. Cliff goes on to tell me of the many uses this has, from eliminating cigarette smoke odours in the car to controlling litter box odours from cats. You know that musty smell you get from the leather seats in your boat? Well give this stuff a spray or 2 and I know it will take care of it. This is not a scent blocker in the sense that it adds another scent to hide the foul odour. This product attacks the enzymes that creates the original odour and neutralizes them. So, once again, the perks of being an OFC member, you get to meet great people! Thanks Cliff! I look forward to trying this stuff out. Cheers, Ron...
