  1. I was a off topic on my last post: I need new line for my ice rods, other than that I'm pretty good for this year. It's not going to happen this year, but I'd like to build an ice shack and place it on the lake down my gravel road; sure would make it easy to fish for a couple hours without having to haul all kinds of gear every time I want to go out.
  2. Specks are closed until much later in the ice fishing season, but when it opens, I'm considering trying to ice fish for them in the small river behind my house. Max depth is maybe 6-7 feet with lots of shallow/fast current areas. I'd likely try deeper areas just below rapids. Anyone ever try this? I'd have to be very careful obviously but it wouldn't be impossible. I wonder if my chances of catching are any good? This is a picture of JoeyTier sneaking up on a good pool early summer.
  3. Didn't we fish in 3" last year? Hahaha. I know a good lake, super easy access with very few if any fisherman that has lots of 24-30" pike. That could be a fun one to start I'm hoping for more laker fishing, but will certainly target walleye in Nipissing and pike on other lakes for fun.
  4. Great mini-book with pics. That goose hunting experience was something else!... jealous.
  5. I blame it on Elmer Fudd.
  6. They clearly do not
  7. I can see a carbon tax being applied to energy-generating provinces like BC, Newfoundland, Sask, or Ablerta, provinces that consume a lot of energy just to produce energy; it is meant to reduce emissions and advance energy efficient technologies. But in Ontario I don't see the need for such a tax. Not that I'm pro-tax raising ( I live in unorganized Twp for a reason), but just be straight and raise income taxes/HST if you want/need to raise taxes. Costs a lot less to administer.
  8. I foresee a funny ice cube prank in your future
  9. That's cool
  10. The b'yes are gonna have a finger licken good toime. haha
  11. I'll organize my gear the 30 minutes before the first day I go out on the ice. I'll forget a bunch of crap, snap my line several times and call myself an idiot under my breath. Then I'll come back, do a good job and I'll be ready for the rest of the season.
  12. Well then CH...maybe I'll start a new hobby haha. Seriously though, a lot of them that are not 'trapped' just get wasted. These are often land owners that just want the wolves away from livestock. As far as I know, they'll eat their own... I've never witnessed it so I can't say for sure.
  13. Wolf meat would be gross. Most guys don't make pelts either. It's a lot work and fetches a lower dollar when it has bullet holes haha. Most shot wolves are just wasted and left for other wolves to eat.
  14. People keep telling me to shoot wolves and bobcats and lynx on my property at any opportunity . It'll increase my bird and rabbit population. I couldn't care less about trying to fight natural cycles. Nor will I take animal population control advice from anyone short a biologist or similar. The only reason id kill them is if they actually presented a nuisance/danger , then watch out.
  15. Beavers are proof that being vegetarian makes you fat haha Great footage.
  16. Happened to my FIL. He's a perfectly capable man but is completely computer dumb. My mom got the call, but she's a bit wiser . She told them I don't have a computer, they responded with " yes you do.." Hahaha
  17. That is ridiculous! We seem to get it often, but never that bad. Holy cow.
  18. Anyone else betting on another intense winter??....Well, with Drifter it's a given haha.
  19. Incredible report. That lake trout fly fishing part really peaked my interest. I love reading about alternative/unique methods! I'm in the Sault often enough. I need to start bringing my fishing gear up here like I used to do. Trying the St-Mary's is definitely on my short list.
  20. ugh, I hear you. I have my own issues with them. Maybe one of those fancy C-Tire shelters is the way the go. Even if you buy one every 5 years it's probably cheaper than building a permanent building. Now keep in mind that if you sell your house, a higher appraisal value would be in your favour.
  21. Oh, and if you do build anything requiring permits, keep in mind that MPAC will not be far behind! Gawd I love living in an unorganized township.
  22. I just had a woodshed built. 20x10. Rough cut on the outside, steel roof. $3,000 including labour, materials were $1,800!. I'd love to have a garage as well, but I assumed $13-15,000 for an insulated/wood heat about the size you are talking about.
  23. The current feds added a bunch more MP positions... not provincial, so a bit off topic. Either way, I know a few guys who do/did the MNR fire-fighting jobs; they work super-hard all summer and fish super-hard all winter haha.
  24. Charlie Brown Christmas for you Joey. 3 hrs and 22 minutes in a mall isn't too bad if you do it all at once and take a year to recover.
  25. Yikes. You got winters on your Jeep? This was yesterday on Hwy 17 as they closed down a section to move some jacknifed tractor trailers. Gotta hate being the first guy stopped!
