  1. Saturday morning, 4am, I hit one of the local docks with a good fishing buddy. Tea and coffee in hand, we sat patiently as the sun rose, the people moved in and the fish didn't bite. Other than some perch and mudpuppies, the lines were limp... we blamed it on a late spring and moved on. I proceeded, at 11am to take the gf to a small lake in a canoe for a few hours before she worked. The weather was perfect and we came away with tans and smiles but not fish. After dropping the gf off at work, I drove back up north to two small lakes to do some exploring with the canoe. First one had nothing but rock bass and perch. The second one looked perfect, hadn't seen another soul in months, but was tight lipped. I saw a huge walleye get spooked but no takers. Got home at 11pm and hit the hay. Sunday at 8, I met up with Nipfisher after he offered me a first class seat in his boat. We tried a few typical walleye spots but couldn't track them down...again late spring!? Eventually we found something I've never caught before in Nipissing. White/Silver Bass, and BIG ones too!! I took three home and found out that they are really easy to clean, and the meat looks great!!! I can't wait to try it. Thanks again Nipfisher.... very kind of you to off a seat in your boat. Captain in his element
  2. that was a good read. Congrats on the unexpected walleye! That's different than the unexpected lack of walleye in our corner of the world.
  3. Great!!! As a former Jets fan, and current Coyotes fan, I'm in a real bind. Do I stay with the franchise, or stay with the Jets? The two reasons I stayed Phoenix were because I couldn't find a better option (what am I gonna be a leafs fan? ha) and because I figured they'd be the next team to return to Canada. Watch out Oilers, Flames and Canucks. there's a new kid in town. This will make for some great rivalries!
  4. I turned the "signature" option off on my settings, but I noticed the link is on your profile. My father paints nature, so I've got a soft spot for this kind of work. Thx.
  5. Those are so gaudy they're nice! One of a kind to say the least.
  6. Great band. another canadian-soon-to-be-classic? Zeus is a fantastic band, garage sound with lots of good hooks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5b7sxZH3Sw PS: seems it's a 50/50 chance the embeded video will play or not.Don't know what I'm doing different each time. Probably a 50% chance I'm screwing up
  7. You can keep them. They are starting here, give it a few days and you'll want to bathe in bug dope.
  8. Congrats on hitting the finals with those fine artworks. Do you have a central website that displays your collection?
  9. I think the National Bass Association will have a great season.
  10. For walleye: Lots of various jig heads, grubs, worm harnesses, deep water cranks, and the proper sinkers/weights/bottom bouncers. You should be ok with leaders, although if the walleye are picky, then tie directly to tackle. Drifting or verticle would work well. edit: As for pike and bass, others would know better than me.
  11. Great read, I just skimmed it, but I'll read the whole thing later. So basically the mercury comes from upstream sources like Pulp and Paper, mining and other industries... jeez, nothing is untouched these days. I think I'll become a mercury martyr and eat as many contaminated fish from the park as i can and just make sure my body decomposes somewhere else.
  12. I was wondering the same thing. there are not too many industrial sources in Algonquin Park.... unless this is the fault of the Sudbury Smoke stack...as everything else seems to be.
  13. hahaha Fear spelled with a capital "F". hahaha
  14. That would slice up a Char Pie is seconds. hahah. Good advice about the Northern Store or contacting someone up north... probably your best bet.
  15. Just got a report from Deux Riviere (nearer to Mattawa) and the river is extremely low this year. Apparently runoff from the north side is non-existent this year and the dam is probably closed tight in Mattawa. He's worried about getting his boat in the water and figures it's down nearly 6 feet.... that won't bode well for ferry's either. And yes, lots of blood sucking worms near parliment.
  16. I'll join closer to game time. Gotta seperate fiddle heads into portions.
  17. That punt boat would be nice to small back lakes. hint hint!
  18. I was in Alert Nunavut years ago but it was 24hr dark so I couldn't fish the nearby char lakes...color me jealous, but those are amazing photos and a great journey!!! congrats. That red meat looks like candy! Edit: those inuit skinning knives are amazing. My brother brought me one back from Kuujuurapik... sharp as anything
  19. We portaged up the Petewawa years ago and only caught bass and chub... but we were looking for trout and were unaware of the walleye population ( I was 12 yrs old). I've read about Musky in the Petewawa and my only advice: hold on tight! haha, maybe get some rope and clamps to tie off your canoe on some trees. Good luck!
  20. Blair, Are those your "a" holes? That sucks about the boat Mike, walleye opener is an event not to be missed.
  21. These are the go getters we use.
  22. Is Mudhole going to replace the grips? At least you found out what happened.
