  1. I should add that I've landed many many perch and not so many many pike...15"-20" range. With the good ol ugly stick
  2. I just grabbed an ugly stick from crapp tire a few weeks ago. Looks to be a good unit with a locking handle for the reel which seems to be hard to find. It's cheap, but I've been using another one for many years and it's worked great. OOD sent me a rod recently with a subscription as well so I'm excited to try these new ones out. I'd say go to crappy tire and pick yourself up one. I should note that I was in Bass Pro and they had the same ugly stick and reel combo for the same price as CT. 39 or 35 bux if I recall.
  3. Much thanks Art for the math portion. You seem to get it. Now to teach others lol. Safe drives tonight and this weekend fellas and ladies. It's not lookin good out there.
  4. Just got back from a nice trip with the miss' to see the Bobby Orr hall of fame in Parry Sound (she's the Bruins fan....Big time) Just past the 400/11 split it was nasty this past Wedensday. Whiteouts where I had to drop the speed to 5km/hr and even less. The roads were a complete dogs breakfast. I shook my head at the heros trying to pass. I drive a 4x4 and know better than to try and pass some one with road conditions like what I seen the other day. A little but of me always wishes to see JoBlow in his Jetta or whatever off in a snow bank for pullin stunts like that. Unbelievable. I rember my driving instructor from way back telling the students if you drive from Toronto to Niagra it'll take X amount of time. If you do the same trip and speed you'll arrive 5 miniuts earlier. At what speed I forget, but the point was is it worth five miniuts? I've always held that thought in my head and just wanted to pass it along. I think it drives home the point. It's been a good way I thought of putting it in perspective. Slow down. you may like what you wouldnt see driving like a jackass. By the way no one out fishing on the lake that the hall of fame is surrounded by. Nice place. Safe driving all.
  5. Nice catch man. You guys are braver than me I like your rod holder, it appears you don't have to bed over. Is that homemade? Be careful out there fellas.
  6. Your making me hungry damm. What is it if you don't mind me askin?
  7. Lucky duck you. Im jelous, nice report man.
  8. Looks promising, but im confused looking at the pic. couls somebody tell me which way is Nord? Im assuming North is at the top, but I cant tell from the pic.
  9. Depends on the type Guardian, but I believe you got the goofy style drain. It should be white plastic. Just turn left should do the trick. Be careful the water will be very hot likely. And # 2 if its a rental don't bother. Your gonna cause more trouble than its worth more times than often. The seal gets crappy over the years and won't shut off. Be very careful playin with any plastic valve on tanks. The temp swings can make the plastic kinda funny and if it snaps off lookout. If its a rental just leave it alone. If you bought it and its say older than 5-6 years you may be in for a valve replacement cause the buggers usually drip after use. If its got the brass style you should be ok, but those usually showed up on Bradfrodwhites. Cliff good choice man. With all the new safety's on the tanks I've seen them cause nusence call outs. I've been outta the trade for 2 1/2 years so maybe they've got the problems solved. I'd say you made a good choice putting it on a patio stone.
  10. One more note to add Cliff so your not caught off gaurd is the 2" vent (ABS) will have to be replaced with what is call 636 PVC. If you choose renting this will not be coverd likely, and if you do buy one make sure the tech replaces it. They've learned that the ABS dose not hold up over time and becomes brittle. Not only dose it become brittle at the glue joints, but the fittings are prone to cracking. Just given you a heads up. You can buy the stuff at Home Depot or a heating/cooling supplier like Frontier. Make sure to get the correct glue as well. It's generally in the same section as the vent and labeled for 636 use. I should also add there's two types of 636. White and Grey. White= up to 60 C and Grey= up to 90C flue temps. You'll be fine with white for a residential tank. Good luck mang.
  11. Hey Cliff this is my take on it....if you don't have backup parts handy I'd recomend rent. If you buy it and it goes down I'm not sure how long "the Home Depot " is gonna take to get a subcontractor out to fix it. Think about that. On the other hand companies like reliance and direct energy have hip cups as well, but in my opinion are quick on the draw for a service call and 99% of the time will have the needed parts on board. I've installed at least 1000 tanks in my day and Id recomend just renting it. It's peace of mind that you can call a well know company and get service relatively fast vs mom and pops heating or the Home Depot and hope they've got the part to fix it. As mentioned before the newer tanks do have more safety's which = more problematic headaches for the customer. Maybe it's me, but I've never seen the savings in a tankless water heater. Just convenience . My 2 cents.
  12. Defiantly not wired right. I was waiting for an antler to do some serious damage. Never trust an animal.
  13. How can I get ahold of these guys. Neat vintage video I enjoyed that just as much.
  14. Nice report. I like reading yours I can relate somewhat to the stuck pics lol. It sucks but you'll know better next time ( just don't go tellin the miss') Sure as hell looks cold though. Good on you guys for bravin it
  15. Hi there pair of green horns. Hopefully this will help you. http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=71929 It's from an iPhone, but its photobucket.
  16. I love reading these kinda reports. That a huge drop in the lake WOW! Nice pooch by the way and nice report.
  17. Nice lookin rainbow. Persistence has paid off. Way to go.
  18. Reels a cheapy 1 bearing, and I can feel the resistance while rotating it, but ill put it to good use.
  19. That's a lot of strength in that little wire I spose. I wouldn't have thought that holding it. Wow.
  20. That's a good way of putting it to use Ron! Home Inspectors could use it. I'm not tryin to say the thicker sheeted wire would be any better, but just holding it seems awful flimsy. I'd think if you were going out with the most minimal of gear and weight was an issue, well then yeah go for the pocket units. The one I've got weighs less than a 15 pack I'd say. Lol. Would you rather be t-boned in a hummer or a chevette lol
  21. Have you held one? I did a bass pro and the cable mech. seems awfully light gauge. I'm careful with my stuff, but the smaller game boy sized units just seem to have the thinnest of wire and just dosent feel like It could take much abuse. Maybe I'm wrong, and the easiest thing I could compare it to or put a parallel to it....12000 lbs winch or 7000 lbs. know what I mean. If you could hold one and you like it hey nice, but like I said, the wire just seemed to fragile for my liking.
