I replaced my impeller recently on my 86 9.9 Merc 2 stroke. I fired it up tonight for a test in a garbage pale full of water and it was peeing fine. I tried it in neutral and reverse. Within a few minutes, I noticed it had stopped peeing. I shut it down, let it cool then pulled the lower unit off again to check the impeller. It looked perfect. I also checked for blockage as best as I could in the pee tubes and hoses. When I ran the motor originally, I could not get forward to engage. I later found out that the problem was simply the edge of the garbage pale was jamming the linkage from going into forward. That works fine now. Could the fact that I had the motor in reverse only with the new impeller made the splines bend into the reverse direction?? Or, should I be getting water discharge (peeing) in reverse too? Turns out that once I had the unit lower apart, one of the brushes was stuck in it's housing. It was not making contact. Cleaned it up and managed to get it moving freely again...Motor working again... Great manual Peter. Thanks everyone. Sherriff

I have a 24 volt, 70lb thrust bow mount Minn Kota Powerdrive unit. The motor was working great last weekend but this past weekend it would only turn right or left. I tried it with both the pedal and the remote from the copilot. Same results....So I can rule out a faulty pedal. It still beeps when increasing or decreasing the thrust and I can hear it click when I try to turn it on. Anyone experienced this before? Also, does anyone know how I can trouble shoot this to see where the issue is? I checked the fuses(ok), pulled the prop to see if there was line wrapped on it(ok). Batteries also at full charge... Read this today as well. Too bad, was hoping there would have been some significant improvements in the Great Lakes. I would hope people follow the safe eating guide but I assume many do not. I would not eat a carp ever (just a personal preference) and would not eat a lake trout out of Lake O no matter how small it was. Sherriff
